The Queue: I win either way

I'm thinking about pizza for dinner tonight. It's a longstanding tradition of ours to ask for topping advice in The Queue, so I'm doing just that tonight.
Which of these should I heap on my meal tonight, folks?

Irin asked:
So, I'm losing my nerve as a tank. In guild groups and raids I'm fine. However, since circumstances in real life kept me from WoW during the early months of the xpac I'm sometimes lost dealing with bosses and CCed mobs, etc.
My question: When your nerves are getting frayed, and when the friends list and guild roster are looking empty, how do you give yourself that boost of confidence needed to get back out there?
Even if you feel you're far overgeared for them, queue for a few normal dungeons before you queue for a heroic. They're quite a bit more relaxed than heroics, and the other players will also expect less of you. People queueing for heroics assume that everybody knows what they're doing (even if nobody actually does) and can be pretty grouchy -- that's a high-stress environment you don't want to place yourself in when you're already nervous. Bang out a few normal difficulty dungeons, get your bearings again, and it should set you straight for queueing for heroics.
sorenhk asked:
When do you think a guild should be able to venture into heroic raids? I've heard that heroic raids are very hard in Cataclysm, so I would expect that a fairly high average item level is needed.
I guess, what I really want to know is: can we somehow tell if if we are ready to try (and perhaps down) some bosses on heroic mode? Does the fact that we can down boss X on normal mode mean that we should be able to down boss Y on heroic? Any (relatively) easy bosses to try out first?
The general rule seems to be if you can call the end bosses, you can start killing heroics. In this tier, that would be Nefarian, Cho'gall and Al'Akir. The heroic encounters my raid tackled first are Halfus Wyrmbreaker, Chimaeron, Magmaw and then Maloriak. I don't know if that's the ideal path to take, but it worked out for us.
Angus asked:
Has anyone seen Call To Arms: DPS yet? I haven't even seen healer, but I thought I'd check.
I haven't seen DPS, but healer seems to happen pretty often. I keep an eye out for the healer Call To Arms and queue for it on my holy paladin. Amazingly, I haven't had a bad group yet -- at least, not a group so bad I couldn't carry them with ridiculously overpowered (in a 5-man) holy paladin heals.
GrumblyStuff asked:
Are we nostalgic for Wrath of the Lich King yet?
No. Never.
d'Avitant asked:
Are we only allowed to do one cooking quest per day? According to MMO Champion and WoW Head, each faction received 10 new daily cooking quests in other faction cities (IF and DN for the allies, TB and UC for the horde).
The thing is, I went and did today's cooking quest in Orgrimmar and then flew to the trainer in Thunder Bluff. She didn't have a quest for me. I moseyed on over to UC, but the same result was in the offering. Is it only one cooking daily per day? My main is kind of behind on his cooking, so I'd hoped that I could use this as a lazy way to improve things a tad.
Yes, of the new cooking quests in the main racial capitals, you can only do one per day. These cooking quests are not aimed at high-level players, much like the fishing quests. They're made to be accessible to low-level players. Most likely, Blizzard added these quests to places like Ironforge and Thunder Bluff so low-level players would not need to trek across the world to do their cooking daily while still leveling. If you're a level 25 night elf leveling in Kalimdor, would you want to go to Stormwind every day to do a single quest? Probably not. However, going back to Darnassus is a lot more reasonable.

Don't worry, he has his many, many, many, enormous statues to accompany him.

Pineapple, all the way!
Now then, a question: given the changes to Children's Week, do you suspect to see any other holidays undergoing changes (outside of just adjusting level) for Cataclysm? If so, which ones and how? Show all work.
Noyou May 2nd 2011 3:03PM
Yes I do. I think they will add things to all holidays eventually to keep them fresh. Since midsummer has a lot to do with fire I wouldn't be surprised to see many changes with that. For Hallows End they have to make substantial changes considering Alliance cannot go to southshore anymore so there is a couple quests that will have to be totally reworked.

Q for the Q:
In Borean Tundra, in the small Alliance village of Farshire, enterprising Northrend adventurers can see three unique human models. There's a tall skinny guy, a big fat (yes, fat in WoW!) guy, and a more accuately proportioned woman. Do (or will) these models appear anywhere else, or were they a like a test run that ultimately failed? Personally, I thought they looked REALLY fresh in WoW, even they moved a little woodenly.
Thanks!
jealouspirate May 2nd 2011 11:28AM
It's my understanding that those models are from the original WoW alpha, and were potentially going to be all over as NPCs or even player humans. Eventually they were scrapped for what we have now. Why Blizzard decided to put them there in Northrend, who knows.
Drack May 2nd 2011 11:31AM
You can actually see all these models and a few more being used in the Old Hillsbrad version of Southshore.
I personaly like the models and would like seeing some for all races to be used as civilians.
Drakkenfyre May 2nd 2011 11:38AM
jealouspirate has it right.
As far as the mayor, the fat guy, he was an original alpha model. I don't know about the other two, they might have been, but his type of model has been in the game files for awhile.

Question for the Queue:
I recently watched the video for the Firelands raid and dailies that's coming out in Patch 4.2. From what I saw, can I take this as a sign that patch 4.2 should be coming out rather soon? Also, how long do you think they might let patch 4.1 go on before they release the next patch?
Jizul May 2nd 2011 11:29AM
Pineapple, pepperoni and jalapeno. Trust me.
Noyou May 2nd 2011 1:10PM
That does sound good.
Dreyja May 2nd 2011 1:14PM
Minus the pepperoni and I'm all over that. ;)

question for the queue... i have heard alot of people qq lately about how the dungeon finder is flawed because it didnt (before 4.1) prioritize putting you in a group with people from your own realm, now that it does people want a realm only option to "avoid ninjas" and other undesirables... what i dont get is, wasnt the dungeon finder created to put you with random people? it was to make it EASIER to find a group across your battlegroup, then it expanded to all realms... i hate to sound like a troll but if you want a realm only group cant you still just sit in trade or another channel and find your group the old way then queue for the random? or am i missing something? i honestly dont get the community's reaction to not having a realm only option.
Namy May 2nd 2011 11:42AM
I don't think it will actually cause the queue to be any slower. I think it just puts you with ppl from your own realm when there is the option to do so. I think it's a nice idea. I've had some awesome groups in the past and was quite gutted that I wouldn't get to play with those guys again. Now I might get to meet good players from my own realm, add them to my friends list for future HCs possibly avoiding the queue altogether or asking them to join when going with guildies, great! :)
Drakkenfyre May 2nd 2011 11:44AM
Tell me, who's going to do that?
You have a button that you can click, that will find you a group. It will also port you to the instance, and give you a bag of stuff afterwards if you let it choose the dungeon for you.
Who would sit in Trade spamming for hours looking for a group over that?
Vladpr May 2nd 2011 12:15PM
I agree with Namy, the idea is to be able to add good players to your friends list and queue with them again in the future and at some point after doing this for a while, you'll avoid altogether all the bad players the random dungeon finder puts you with.
What this will do to the queue times, I can't stipulate. But I bet all the bad players will end up playing with themselves only.
PS: Bad Players: I don't mean new players who don't know how to do their role yet but will accept guidance. I mean the players who are rude, impatient and refuse to follow orders, then blame the tank/dps/healer for not doing their "job".
nikobrown May 2nd 2011 1:04PM
Building a group in trade then queuing for a random yields the same rewards doesn't it?
Tim May 2nd 2011 11:42AM
Pineapple ok with Canadian bacon. Dad loves it. Congrats on Osama put down. I loved Wrath. Has been my favorite expansion so far. I was worried about Cata for a minute there. Was kinda bored with it. 4.1 and I know 4.2 will bring back the excitement I had for this game. But yea, Wrath's my favorite so far.

Question: Why do the servers reset on Tuesday? It seems like Sunday or Monday would make more sense, being the beginning of the calendar and work week, respectively.
