The Queue: I win either way

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

I'm thinking about pizza for dinner tonight. It's a longstanding tradition of ours to ask for topping advice in The Queue, so I'm doing just that tonight.

Which of these should I heap on my meal tonight, folks?

Irin asked:

So, I'm losing my nerve as a tank. In guild groups and raids I'm fine. However, since circumstances in real life kept me from WoW during the early months of the xpac I'm sometimes lost dealing with bosses and CCed mobs, etc.

My question: When your nerves are getting frayed, and when the friends list and guild roster are looking empty, how do you give yourself that boost of confidence needed to get back out there?

Even if you feel you're far overgeared for them, queue for a few normal dungeons before you queue for a heroic. They're quite a bit more relaxed than heroics, and the other players will also expect less of you. People queueing for heroics assume that everybody knows what they're doing (even if nobody actually does) and can be pretty grouchy -- that's a high-stress environment you don't want to place yourself in when you're already nervous. Bang out a few normal difficulty dungeons, get your bearings again, and it should set you straight for queueing for heroics.

sorenhk asked:

When do you think a guild should be able to venture into heroic raids? I've heard that heroic raids are very hard in Cataclysm, so I would expect that a fairly high average item level is needed.

I guess, what I really want to know is: can we somehow tell if if we are ready to try (and perhaps down) some bosses on heroic mode? Does the fact that we can down boss X on normal mode mean that we should be able to down boss Y on heroic? Any (relatively) easy bosses to try out first?

The general rule seems to be if you can call the end bosses, you can start killing heroics. In this tier, that would be Nefarian, Cho'gall and Al'Akir. The heroic encounters my raid tackled first are Halfus Wyrmbreaker, Chimaeron, Magmaw and then Maloriak. I don't know if that's the ideal path to take, but it worked out for us.

Angus asked:

Has anyone seen Call To Arms: DPS yet? I haven't even seen healer, but I thought I'd check.

I haven't seen DPS, but healer seems to happen pretty often. I keep an eye out for the healer Call To Arms and queue for it on my holy paladin. Amazingly, I haven't had a bad group yet -- at least, not a group so bad I couldn't carry them with ridiculously overpowered (in a 5-man) holy paladin heals.

GrumblyStuff asked:

Are we nostalgic for Wrath of the Lich King yet?

No. Never.

d'Avitant asked:

Are we only allowed to do one cooking quest per day? According to MMO Champion and WoW Head, each faction received 10 new daily cooking quests in other faction cities (IF and DN for the allies, TB and UC for the horde).

The thing is, I went and did today's cooking quest in Orgrimmar and then flew to the trainer in Thunder Bluff. She didn't have a quest for me. I moseyed on over to UC, but the same result was in the offering. Is it only one cooking daily per day? My main is kind of behind on his cooking, so I'd hoped that I could use this as a lazy way to improve things a tad.

Yes, of the new cooking quests in the main racial capitals, you can only do one per day. These cooking quests are not aimed at high-level players, much like the fishing quests. They're made to be accessible to low-level players. Most likely, Blizzard added these quests to places like Ironforge and Thunder Bluff so low-level players would not need to trek across the world to do their cooking daily while still leveling. If you're a level 25 night elf leveling in Kalimdor, would you want to go to Stormwind every day to do a single quest? Probably not. However, going back to Darnassus is a lot more reasonable.
