Patch 4.2 PTR: New vanity pets

Among those 800 new items are a few new vanity pets, which should keep pet collectors on their toes:
I'm willing to bet that both the Hyjal Bear Cub and the Fire Lasher will be rewards from the new daily quests in the Regrowth and Molten Front. The same likely applies to the new Trampoline item that appeared in the patch 4.2 data.
Dragonwrath will be the guild reward for completing the new caster legendary, so the origin of that pet isn't a mystery at all.
The Feline Familiar's origin is currently an unknown, but I'm willing to take a guess and say that it will be a part of the revamped Hallow's End event. We started to see pieces of a new Hallow's End in patch 4.1, so it's not a surprise that we might see more of it in patch 4.2. Update: A broomstick for the Feline Familiar is also in the datafiles, so perhaps that's what will set this cat apart from the others?
Lastly, there's an icon for a baby version of the upcoming Winged Guardian microtransaction mount. It's unknown how you get it, though it very likely involves the Blizzard store one way or the other.

The old cat companion models are kind of dated, so I'm kinda hoping the cat gets a model upgrade (if only for that particular companion). I will not by any stretch of the imagination be expecting one, but I'll hope. After all, dogs have gotten a lot of overhauls lately.

I sure hope the Familiar has some unique and adorable mechanic to separate it from the other cat pets.
If I ruled the world, they would sit on your shoulder ~50% of the time.
Sara May 4th 2011 9:09PM
My shoulder always end up looking like huge chunks or rock, or on fire, or like toilet seat. I pity cat who would have to sit up there!
Necromann May 4th 2011 9:09PM
That would be awesome.

PURELY SPECULATION HERE: Given the broomstick item, it almost sounds like it will be similar to the argent gruntling, which can turn into a bank, vendor, or mailbox. IF that's the case, it will be rather handy.

I still want the Lil' Alexstrasza they datamined awhile back, except I don't want it as a paid-for pet.
Drakkenfyre May 4th 2011 9:16PM
Alexstrazsa is red. That's her model, colored blue.
Drakkenfyre May 4th 2011 9:17PM
Whoops, clicked the wrong reply.
Luci May 4th 2011 8:49PM
What dragon is that a picture of?
shadcroly May 4th 2011 9:03PM
The preview for the Caster DPS Legendary said something about being able to turn into a dragon with it. I'm guessing it's probably a mount form you can use.
bmcooney May 4th 2011 9:06PM
Alexstrasza I believe. Don't quote me on it though.
Drakkenfyre May 4th 2011 9:17PM
Alexstrazsa is red. That's her model, colored blue.
blancester May 4th 2011 9:42PM
That is actually a whole no model there.
Alex's horns go straight back. They do not curl like this ones.
Drakkenfyre May 4th 2011 10:58PM
You are right, I wasn't looking too closely at the horns, and didn't realize those were the tips of them. I thought it was another part of the headdress.
Antman May 4th 2011 8:55PM
wasn't there a moderators avatar on the bnet forums that was a black cat on a broom stick? I bet that's what it is. Just like the squire with his stead. Maybe it will let you use it as a mail box/bank/vendor/
Drakkenfyre May 4th 2011 9:17PM
I doubt they will let a cat be a bank/mailbox/vendor.
With a squire with a horse, it made sense. A cat? A little less so. Unless we are talking magical cats here, with the "familiar" part describing that.
Cephas May 4th 2011 10:54PM
The Argent Pony Bridle was an item that upgraded your squire/gruntling. This is just a spell, there's no indication that this is a companion upgrade, in fact I would be very surprised if it was. That kind of upgrade would seem far to generous for what seems like a Hallow's End pet. If I had to guess, I would say that it's more likely that this spell is purely cosmetic and just allows the cat to mount a broomstick and fly around with you when you use a flying mount.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Rpn1cMdMkg If he can have one, we can too!
Also witches had pet cats that did stuff in stories and comics (like search books?) so why not.
Also, Dragonwrath Whelpling seems to be Anniversary pet... we already have BC whelp, WoTLK whelp, Cata whelp, Onyxia whelp..really?
This MANY WHELPS still LEFT to make..just SIDEnote really..
Chokaa May 4th 2011 8:55PM
Mini-winged lion sounds cool and all, but if we remember when the sparklehorse first showed up there was a full model companion pet datamined called the celestial dragon. Looked like the spirit of competition dragon, only reskinned sith the algalon-esque stars. Basically the most badass noncombat pet ever. And it never showed up anywhere beyond being datamined :(
josephburgess May 4th 2011 10:24PM
So the data-miners have uncovered the Dragonwrath Whelpling, but no Dragonwrath yet? *Sadface*
