What's your dream cast for the Warcraft movie?

Then around the same time, the WoW Insider team got word on the further developments of Michele Morrow's campaign to land the role of Sylvanas Windrunner. This sparked the idea that someone on staff should put together a dream cast for the future Warcraft movie. As the token film school dropout, I jumped on the assignment and promptly put together the most expensive movie cast list ever.

Busey is intimidating charismatic and seemed to be good at pissing off other contestants on the Apprentice. Sounds just like old Hellscream.

You had me at Scarlett Johansson, but you trailed off afterwards. Not many of those actors seem to fit the characters very well imo. If half of those people had a part in the Warcraft movie it would just be another part played by them, instead of the character they're supposed to be playing, if that makes any sense.

Agreed. I think it depends on the screen time each character has. If it is brief I think you can get away with having a megastar in it. Just their presence kind of speaks for themselves. But you would like relatively unknown actors to take over that role and make a name for themselves. Of course then there is a Johnny Depp who can come along and totally blow that theory to pot.

You seem to be assuming they're mostly bad actors. You didn't name anyone specifically so it's hard to know which you meant, but a number of them are very good actors, in which case, what you're saying is type-casting and that's always a mistake with a good actor, who doesn't have to be the person they were in their last few films.

This is why I want to see relatively unknown actors/actresses in Warcraft. I mean, Lord of the Rings had a few well known actors, such as Ian McKellen of course (who is a very good actor in my opinion), but a lot of them had been relatively unheard of in mainscreen cinema films before! And that stopped people going to see it because "..." was in it.
Which imo would be a problem with Angelina Jolie and Will Ferrell in particular..
Maybe it would be better for a mix of well-known but easily adaptable actors (like Ian McKellen was in LOTR) rather than just big names who are very typecast! :)
(sorry to everyone else who hates LOTR, was just one example!)

It's hard to say, not knowing what characters will be in the movie but obviously Hugh Laurie should play Fandral Staghelm.

Hugh Laurie should absolutely NOT play Fandral Staghelm. However, my first thought was that Hugh Laurie absolutely SHOULD play a part in the Warcraft movie. I would cast him as Genn Greymane probably.

Hmm. I don't think there's really enough comic potential in Greymane to waste Hugh Laurie's brilliant comic genius on. Yes, I know he's not just a comedian anymore, he can do deadly serious drama, but unless the role also calls for a lot of comedy as well, you're seriously wasting the brilliance that is Hugh Laurie.

When I thought of Mekkatorque, I thought of Steve Buscemi, actually. Maybe it's because I remember him best from "Armageddon" and his nutty, super-genius but rather off-kilter character.

I don't know about DeVito as a gnome; I like him a lot, but he always has a certain unctuousness about him; kind of a sleazy vibe that doesn't really fit gnomes well.
Personally, I'd rather see him as Gallywix.
