Blizzard improves the WoW community site (again)

Apparently the improvements don't stop there, though, as Blizzard recently announced a laundry list of updates for the site, including:
- Rotatable 3-D models for gear in the item database
- Boss info pages, loot tables, and ability information
- Improved, easier-to-read search results
- And more!
In our ongoing efforts to bring you the most epic website experience ever (with as few explosions and malfunctions as possible), our special task force of goblin Web designers and gnomish engineers has just released a sweeping update to the Web database. Some of the highlights of this update include:
Improved Search
Expanded Game Section
Updated Item Pages
Check out the new and improved database now, and if you have any feedback, we'd love to hear from you on the Website Features forum.
Improved Search
- Forum-specific search can now be accessed via the forums.
- The search results layout has been updated to a cleaner, more user-friendly format.
- Character, guild, arena team, and item results are now presented in a sortable table.
- Performing a search will initially take you to a new Search Summary page, providing an overview of the various results.
Expanded Game Section
- The Game homepage has been redesigned to make it easier to access all of the available content.
- We've added new pages that can be accessed via the Game section, by performing a direct search, or by using the breadcrumb menus below the main navigation buttons:
- Dungeons and Raids: You can now see overviews for each dungeon and raid that include boss lists, screenshots, maps, dungeon information, loot tables, related quests, achievements, and quest rewards.
- Bosses: These pages contain boss information such as loot tables, rotatable 3D renders of the bosses, sample abilities, related quests, and more.
- Factions: Here you will find general information about each faction, as well as lists of quests, faction rewards, NPCs, and achievements.
- Professions: Find comprehensive recipe lists complete with reagents and source info, profession descriptions, perks, benefits, and more.
Updated Item Pages
- Item page layouts have been updated to match the new Game pages.
- Item pages now also include 3D renders for weapons and armor.

Anyone else agree that Blizzard knows what we like? 3-D modelviewing? Better searching? Amazing!!
Aceman67 May 8th 2011 3:40AM
What I would like is 3-D character model viewing for our Toons. Its been promised, but now the greyed out link is gone now, I think they're just quietly sweeping it under the rug, hoping we won't notice.
KataSamoes May 7th 2011 8:15PM
But do they have comment pages for items/bosses like Wowhead? No?
Still freaking cool.
EnigmaEngine May 7th 2011 9:07PM
Almost every page on the official site has a comment section now. This includes items and bosses.
cygnus May 7th 2011 11:39PM
After seeing the success of thotbot and allakazam (back in the day) and wowhead today, Im amazed they took so long.
Haarits May 8th 2011 4:41PM
Cygnus, they just wanted to let those sites enjoy their day in the sun before making them theoretically obsolete.

I am glad they put forum-specific searching back in.
It was STUPID if you needed to find a specific thread in a forum, say a problem with a video card, in Tech Support, and the search results was from every single forum, and couldn't be sorted. I will never know why that was taken out in the first place.
poggg May 8th 2011 11:06AM
Some kind of technical issue conflicting with new features, most likely.
That or someone MAJORLY dropping the ball. At least we've got it back now.
silentfox May 7th 2011 8:22PM
I hope they add back that thing in the armory where you got to pose your characters again.
bjoker1 May 7th 2011 10:55PM
My guy has been in this most awkward pose for the longest time now. It drives me nuts.
Mattimus May 8th 2011 12:23AM
They took the grayed-out 3D option out of the Armory page for characters. At first, they said they were working on it... but now that the button's gone, it looks like they've decided against custom posing.
JattTheRogue May 7th 2011 11:23PM
Did they change the font/background colors in the forums so that reading more than a couple sentences doesn't make your eyes cross? Please?
:(
Jonrock May 8th 2011 1:58AM
So they implemented forum-specific search by removing search-all-forums search? Clever!
(Yes, I know I can edit the URL.)
Montas May 8th 2011 3:00AM
Still no way of reading data from armory in standard way (XML). They added some javascript arrays but there are no useful informations in there.
For me, nothing exciting in these "new" features.
Montas May 8th 2011 3:08AM
Ow come on!!! Its not even 3d model... they just made a lot of screenshots. Blizzard go check wowhed and learn how database website should look like...
Aceman67 May 8th 2011 3:44AM
No, This is the most epic website experience ever: http://nyan.cat/
Baba May 8th 2011 4:38AM
Yeah that's lovely Blizzard - now reimplement the abilitiy to look over old arena matches again (which you inexplicably removed) and I might consider patting you on the back.
webby_o May 8th 2011 6:15AM
Even for spam, that's bad. You don't mention where to buy your crappy knock-off jeans or how to order them.
You're just not putting the effort in.
Rob May 8th 2011 8:10AM
Its nice, but WOWhead still beats the socks off the official site.
dlfnrdr May 8th 2011 10:31AM
Whatever happened to the part of the Armory where you clicked on a piece of your gear and it gave you possible upgrades?
