Patch 4.2: Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest proc potentially uncovered

Wowhead believes it has found Dragonwrath's proc while mining away at the data in today's patch 4.2 PTR build. They discovered the spell Wrath of Tarecgosa (applied to the caster by a passive aura), which provides a chance to duplicate the damage caused by an offensive damaging spell. The effect of this damage would also be called Wrath of Tarecgosa, and the damage would be dealt as arcane damage. Double Pyroblasts, anyone?
It should be noted that this information is on the PTR and is in no way final. This could be just one effect Blizzard is experimenting with, or it may ultimately be used for something completely different. It is, however, the best lead we've seen so far.
The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs -- plus new Tier 12 armor!Filed under: Cataclysm

The thought of getting multiple Hot Streak procs and multiple Wrath of Tarecgosa procs and therefore sending an entire damn meteor shower at a foe fills my fire mage's heart with glee.
And considering she's named after Kefka, the fortunate among you can imagine the laugh that would go along with said meteor shower. ^_^

This is good PVE wise, but we're going to have another Skillmourne season in arena. If you think about people doing, say, a 30k crit on you, that's 60k; plus the fact there's barely any arcane resistance spells (I know there's a racial one for Gnomes, Nether ward does a 15% damage reduction), this is going to be very overpowered in the right hands.

Arcane dmg? Benefitted by arcane mage mastery??
mazca13 May 13th 2011 8:42PM
Sounds like a good guess. It's a proc that's powerful, useful to all classes, simple to immediately understand, and gives them a good opportunity for a flash spell effect when it goes off - sounds like ideal legendary weapon material.

- "Double Conflagrates, anyone?"
Fixed.

Pyroblast?
Conflagrate?
Clearly we should be talking about Deep Freeze

Double instant 120k arcane blast crits, anyone?
Xaklo May 14th 2011 2:52AM
Double 9k Vampiric Embrace hits!!!??

What happened to turning into a Blue Dragon?
Perhaps "Wrath of Tarecgosa" is a part of that, instead of its own proc.
Andrew May 13th 2011 9:09PM
That might still be an out-of-combat transformation, it really didn't make much sense for being an in-combat effect.
Revynn May 13th 2011 9:40PM
I'm actually thinking that "Wrath of Tarecgosa" is a the proc that would both turn transform you -and- duplicate your damage, reading something like this:
Your damaging spells have a chance to grant you the the Wrath of Tarecgosa. While the Wrath of Tarecgosa effect is active, you are transformed into a member of the Blue Dragonflight and have a chance for your damaging spells to be duplicated on the target as Arcane damage."
Might just be the way I'm reading it, though.
/wait and see

An X% chance to turn into the dragon and have all your damage doubled while you're in that form for however many seconds it lasts would be a lot more helpful for DoT heavy specs like shadow priest or affliction, especially if there's an internal cooldown. I wouldn't want to have an Unstable Affliction tick be the one to get doubled and then be locked out of a Bane of Doom or Drain Soul tick, for example.

Looking at the size of that dragon.. It's got to be an on-use flying mount or something, imagine proccing that and filling everyone's screens with a giant blue dragon :S
I predict the staff has it's Wrath proc, and an on-use transform into a dragon, like the vial of sands mount. Stated :D

maybe it's just me, but I really don't like in-combat transformation procs - it just doesn't fit my idea of how my character behaves. Same thing with the Wrath weapons that summoned minions to do damage for you - I do the damage, not some Vrykul that came out of nowhere.
For whatever odd reason, if it's a triggerable ability like a cooldown, I'm more okay with it.

Feel free to leave this staff for me then, I'm not fussy.

drool!

Well THSI is just freaking crazy!!! Thsi sounds like a pretty neat proc for any dps caster. By the way it is spelled This way :P

Turning into a full-fledged dragon mid raid would take up a lot of screen space. Maybe an on use that turns you into a mount or something visual.
