Some machinima concepts are simple. They're not sweeping, dramatic stories with high-end graphics. These concepts are pure and streamlined in their execution. LockvsMage is one such video.
This is just a pride showdown between a warlock and a mage. (I couldn't help but wonder what Tyler and Christian would think of the display.) The video is clean, fun, and kept me surprisingly engaged through the whole thing. I loved the ending and the childlike wonder of the two characters showing off.
LockvsMage just shows how not everything has to be refined to the point of Hollywood quality. Just come up with a good idea, stay focused on it, and make it work.

Well, I would have stuck with the warlock, (after all, he may be draining an illusion, but he is still a warlock, and therefore awesome...) until I re-watched the video.
I think the mage actually does come out ahead at the end.
I mean, both are turned into harmless, fluffy, cute little rabbits. While this is definitely a step down for a master of the dark arts with powerful demonic forces at his beck and call, it's decidedly an improvement for the mage. (If for no other reason than the fact that people actually LIKE rabbits.)
Poor mages; always the twangy banjo to warlocks' richer, more complex guitar.
Don't despair, though, mages: there are plenty of famous, well loved virtuouso banjo players: Steve Martin, Bela Fleck, Earl Scruggs...um... did I say Steve Martin yet?
And sure, they're completely overshadowed by guitar players like Eric Clapton, Andre Segovian, Jimi Hendrix, and about a million others, but that doesn't make their music any less inferior and irritating.
You obviously didn't play a warlock during the first 9 months after release...
During that period, mages were epic electric guitar solos by a host of rock legends while warlocks were a 5 year old playing on his kazoo that he won from Chuck E. Cheese's.
Actually, I happen to like the banjo. In fact, I have several of Bela Fleck's albums. (As a South Carolinian, I had to buy them to meet the state's legal minimum requirement for banjo and fiddle music on iPods.)
However, I couldn't resist making the analogy based on the popular conception of the two instruments. (You have to admit, the guitar DOES get a hell of a lot more respect, generally speaking.)
This video has the feel like the machina right from the beginning of WoW. The feeling of adventure, fun and joy. To me, that's a Grade A quality stamp. Good work!

I love it! LOVE IT! Simple concept or not, they did an excellent job keeping the variety flowing so that you never got bored.
Great job!

I approve of this statement!
Andrew May 13th 2011 12:12PM
But...did the mage win?
Daedalus May 13th 2011 12:23PM
Tough to say, because even if a mage "wins" they are still, in fact, a mage and therefore a loser.
Touphemia May 13th 2011 12:31PM
Of course the mage won. She turned into the cuter bunny!

@Daedalus
At 3:12, you'll notice the lock is Draining the Life out of a Mirror Image. Who's the loser now?

Can't help but notice that was Durotar. Not the Barrens.

Mage to the Warlock:
"You got a purdy mouth boy."
Peli May 13th 2011 12:37PM
Totally needed a DK or Feral Druid at the end coming in and ganking both of them at low health.
Vitos May 13th 2011 1:11PM
Nah... warrior. They don't have any magic at all, and it could be done so that a fury warrior hits each of them on the head at the same time...

Just like mages.

I don't care about locks or mages, but guitars are absolutely not more rich or complex instruments than banjos.

Is the music from the scene in Deliverance? I couldn't help but recognize that lol
