WRUP: Ah, memories

While writing up last week's WRUP, I noticed a little bit of information located in our official WoW Insider blogging software. It says I've been writing here for exactly 1 year, 121 days. That's a pretty long time, considering that I don't even remember a quarter of what I've written. Then again, I have a terrible memory. I forget to turn off table saws all the time and usually don't remember to use the brakes when coming to a red light.
Still, for everything I've forgotten, there are quite a few things I remember quite fondly about my time here at WoW Insider. Like the time Mike Sacco called in to a radio contest and won a "dream night for 2" with the Beach Boys! Or when Alex Ziebart re-recorded that old Beach Boys song, and wound up having a number one hit ... in Japan! Or that time Mat McCurley held a "We Love Our Children" telethon where the Beach Boys showed up to save the day! And who could forget that time when we all went to Hawaii, had some trouble with our boat, and thought we were shipwrecked ... but then it turns out we were really on the same island as our hotel! And also the Beach Boys were there, too, for some reason!
Since I'm so firmly seated in my comfy ol' "rememberin' chair," I decided to ask our columnists a bonus question this week: "What's you favorite WoW Insider memory/moment?" To my surprise, not a single one of them mentioned the Beach Boys. You'd think with all the times we've wound up getting our lives intertwined with them, more people would remember ...
Adam Holisky (@AdamHolisky) I'll be playing my goblin warlock a bit while working on a few other things this weekend. I have three favorite WoW Insider memories. The first is all the BlizzCon experiences with our readers -- it makes everything worth it to have a complete stranger walk up and thank you for answering his question in The Queue, which he read while he was over in Iraq. The second great memory is something Sacco did that was Very Good, and while we can't really talk about it, I've never felt so proud to work with such great people before (/brohighfive). The third great memory is something else I can't talk about, but it involves gin. Fifteen years from now, I'm going to write a book on WoW Insider, and I'll reveal everything then.
Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert) Some PTR work if both my computer and the servers cooperate (I've been getting kicked off Anasterian within 2-5 minutes of logging on pretty consistently), but otherwise I'll still be at work on my little tank project. As for favorite WoW Insider moments, I have quite a few, but I'll always treasure the reader reaction to pieces like Shifting Perspectives: Tanks, Wrath, and crushing blows and The cynic's guide to World of Warcraft. The former even got a Ghostcrawler comment on the forums, which -- not gonna lie -- pretty much made my year. I love our commenters.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I am continuing to watch my sister's zoo and keep the boas contained in their tank, as I have been forbidden to open it. I am perfectly okay with this, since both of them are longer than I am tall. In between that, writing mostly, and amusing people. Favorite WoW Insider moment -- man, there are far too many. Meeting everyone at BlizzCon last year was a definite highlight, as was writing the Elune is a naaru article that had far more people frazzled and frothing at the mouth than I'd previously realized. ... oops?
Chase Christian (@madsushi) I will be messing around with my new keyboard this weekend (Razer Blackwidow) and playing/watching a lot of Starcraft 2. GSL and TSL finals this weekend! For the bonus: My favorite moment would have to be the April Fool's Joke from a few years ago, where I got to write a piece about the virtues of Dragonbreath Chili.
Dan O'Halloran Still working on Hyjal quests in preparation for 4.2. In my four years of working on this site, my favorite WoW Insider moment has to be last year's reader meetup during BlizzCon. Months of work went into making that happen, and seeing over 2,000 people come through that night and have a great time was well worth it. The runner-up best moment has to be last year's April Fool's joke. How can it get any better than Twilight Insider, I ask?
Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb) I'll be running my druid through Hyjal to get him ready for the 4.2 dailies, and doing some heroics on both my death knight and warlocks. My favorite WoW Insider moment was probably when I wrote Varian Wrynn is Right. That thing was my opus, and it sparked a lot of discussion and, I am told, converted at least a few people to the "Maybe Varian isn't such a bad guy" camp. Other than that, I loved HKO Insider. We had so many amazing articles, like Alex's Keroppi Know Your Lore and my My Melody PvP article.
Dawn Moore (@dawnwow) I'll be putting some more time into RIFT. Put in 10 minutes so far and already decided I want to willfully ignore the recommended soul combos for kicks. I also have to RSVP this wedding invitation from someone named Faux. Dunno what that's about. My favorite WoW Insider memory is the reader responses to my Lich King healing guide at BlizzCon. I make a difference! /sniffle
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) Computer's still in the shop, so I'll be messing around with the games on my new iPhone. I already finished Aralon and will be playing Infinity Blade, Chaos Rings, Zenonia and the iOS version of Dead Space next. Any other suggestions? My favorite WoW Insider moment was coming up with the idea for Know Your Lore and writing those first few articles. I figured that no one would ever be interested in reading about lore. How wrong I was.
Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) My mother is in town this weekend, and that's weird. When I've got the time, I'll probably take to writing up a screed on the (major?) shadow priest changes on the PTR for next week's Spiritual Guidance. As for my favorite WoW Insider moment? It's impossible to name just one. Meeting everyone at BlizzCon was amazing, of course, as was hanging out at PAX East 2011 with Mat McCurley. Since this job seems to keep getting better and better with each passing day, I'm quite confident that my favorite WoW Insider moment of all time has yet to come.
Joe Perez (@Lodurzj) Guild achievement runs for me. More PTR fun. Starting Mass Effect playthrough from the beginning with the first game, moving on to the second and every DLC in between. Should be a good time. As far as my favorite WoW Insider modment goes, I'd have to echo many of our writers here and list BlizzCon as on of my all time top moments. Meeting the team, meeting the readers and working the mic and prize table with McCurley, it doesn't get much better than that. Meeting, talking to and interacting with the readers is always something I love. So thank every one of you! I look forward to meeting you at BlizzCon 2011.
Josh Myers (@Elamqt) I've been dealing with some pretty silly lag issues since last Saturday, but they finally seem to be clearing up now. If they clear up, I'll probably spend the weekend playing DDO with the BF. My level 3 barbarian is stupidly fun.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) PEE VEE PEE! More specifically, battlegrounds! Need to get a half-decent set of PvP gear before 4.2. The new wolf mount has my name on it. I can feel it. I will also be playing Outlands on the 360 (via XBLA). Played the demo and I was hooked. As for my favourite moment, I have to say the meetup last year. I've only been here for ... hmm. A year and a half? In any case, meeting everyone face-to-face at my first BlizzCon was just an overload of awesomeness. Matticus is local so he doesn't count.
Lisa Poisso (@emused) Meeting David Arkenstone (WoW and Cataclysm soundtrack composer) at a concert this weekend, and finding out if anything musically new might be in store and where WoW fans can find him playing in the near future (he's not officially on tour). As for favorite WoW Insider moments, I'd have to say moments like this coming weekends are tops for me. I love when all all sorts of interests converge and I can tie up a big, fat package of awesome for readers.
Mat McCurley (@gomatgo) Gears of War 3 Beta for the next million years. Also, WoW? Sure. Maybe. BUT GEARS. My favorite WoW Insider moment was the BlizzCon meetup party. Meeting so many readers was awesome.
Matt Low (@matticus) PTR and guild achievements work for me. Must become server first in different, meaningless guild achievements! On the PTR, I'll be pushing through the Firelands questing zones and exploring the new area. My favorite WoW Insider moments would be the first BlizzCon, when I hung out with the crew and the readers for the first time. It was tremendous fun meeting the team and the readers for the first time that year. Hope to do that again for this year's BlizzCon 2011!
Matt Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) Running Zul'Gearup on my second warrior and trying to decide some important stuff for my WoW future. As for my favorite WoW Insider memory, I think it was writing the long post about protection warrior tanks at the end of BC. Time vindicated the heck out of that column.
Matt Walsh (@Rhidach) Trying out Portal 2 this weekend. Saturday night will also be one of my guild's monthly "drinking game raiding nights." Looking forward to a wicked hangover! I haven't been with WoW Insider long, but I guess my favorite WI moment would have to be back in August at the BlizzCon meetup. I wasn't on the staff then, but it was great to meet a lot of them!
Michael Gray (@writegray) This weekend, I'm playing ... I don't know. I might go to the Maryland Faerie Festival, to help promote my wife's photography business. Or, I might just stay at home and sneak in some troll time. My favorite moment as part of WoW Insider is having had a Blizzard employee tell me how much our machinima content meant to him. I won't say who, of course, but I'll tell you I got a little emotional. Machinimists work so hard as part of their art, and I have an inkling of how much effort those Blizzard guys put into their art. Being a little bit of a bridge between the two ... well, it still gets to me. I wake up every. single. day. excited and thrilled to be part of that, and I will never ever be able to properly explain it. It's just great. That moment encapsulated it all for me, and it still does.
Sarah Nichol (@mentalshaman) Running troll heroics, and participating in an easy-going afternoon raid on my shaman, as well as finishing off the enchants on her better gear now that Maelstrom Crystals aren't being rationed so closely. I'll also be levelling my arms warrior, she's almost level 60, although I've been distracted by questing through WPL and EPL for the story. When not in WoW, I'll be in RIFT, or I'll be going to see Hanna with my fiance! My favorite WoW Insider moments -- well I'd have to say the reception I got when I joined the staff, it's wonderful to be part of this team, and this community.
Tyler Caraway (@murmursofadruid) I'm not entirely sure that I'll be playing much of anything this weekend, probably being far too busy with friends, family, peoples and getting my apartment ready for the whole moving thing. I'll also be "celebrating" my birthday, so who knows where I may end up. My friends are some strange people and there's no telling where they could end up taking me.

Congrats on the anniversary! (I've been watching through Full House via netflix for the last few weeks, and I also enjoyed the nods to a childhood favorite that still has the emotional strength to bring tears to my eyes from time to time.)

I have one paper left to write for my first year of my PhD program, so no playing anything until it is due. What is pure torture it that the paper is about cross-gender representation in online avatars. I talk about WoW a lot, and it just serves to remind me that I am not playing WoW.
