Patch 4.2 PTR: New login screen temporary?

Why the change? We have no idea. It could be a temporary change while Blizzard works on an issue with the old login screen -- or perhaps it is the end of roaring, animated dragons when you log in to the game. The particular art used is gorgeous, obviously, and it's one of my favorite shots of Deathwing.
The reasoning behind the change will most likely come out soon. Tin foil hat speculation puts it anywhere from people's having issues with the login screen and just not loving roaring dragons (even after the toning down of said roaring) to using a new login screen that reflects the next tier of raiding. We don't know! My guess is that we will know soon, however.

I'm pretty sure they changed it to not confuse people between the 2 clients. Sounds silly, but they changed the launcher to fully reflect it is the PTR.

That, or it has something to do with the changes they're making to the authenticator login. Its not a bug that (since 4.1) we have to type in our PW then have the authenticator box pop up, they mentioned they will add more functionality to it so maybe the temporary login screen had to do with that.

I'm sure this is temporary.
At the moment the PTR is VERY unstable (I mean.. It -IS- the PTR, after all) and having a big flashy log in screen may add more strain to it. There's no real reason to have the LIVE version of the log in screen on the PTR anyway.

Well if that was how it works, you wouldn't be able to see the logon screen when you weren't online.
It's local, just like all the other assets.

Your client rendering a big flashy login screen has no effect whatsoever on the server.

God I hope that's permanent. It's so much better than stupid Deathwing roaring in my face from the gates of Stormwind. In that above picture he looks badass and menacing, in the current animated screen he looks more like a "Deathy the Magic Dragon" character, arch-enemy of the Powerpuff Girls and Tom & Jerry combined.

As much as I hated Sindy roaring at us near non-stop in the WotLK login screen, I love the current animated Deathwing screen. Whilst this still picture is of an amazing quality, I still feel his head is far too small and his chin ludicrously large.
Less Deathwing, more Deathchin. Deathchin the Destroyer... It has a ring to it.

I also prefer the new static image. It looks classier and more fearsome than the current Deathwing model used on the live login screen, which reminds me of a bobblehead toy.

I think it happens when there isn't something for the lowest common denominator idiots to find fault in and complain about.

I turned the music off and now I can't hear roaring... glad they changed the opening "BOING!" on pressing PLay as that WAS waaay tooo loooud....

He roars? I have seen the animation, but somehow my gamesounds doesn´t work.
Not in login screen or ingame. Repair doesn´t help and the sounds went in a hotfix/patch around January. I know someone of you knows the reason and/or solution :D
