The Queue: Slanderous words

I honestly have no idea why I'm using this particular header image. I was looking through some past Queues to provide an acceptable answer for today's final question and stumbled across it. I think it's one of the first images I ever used on WoW Insider, and I just add or remove white space to the sides when we change our column width on the site. It was originally used on a European maintenance announcement over three years ago. Every time I find it again, I can't help but recycle it.
It's a good picture.

All over Azeroth there are raptors, and they're all decked out in pretty feathered armbands and tribal necklaces. Who, exactly, is bored and insane enough to be decorating velociraptors like Christmas trees?
Raptors on Azeroth have low-level sapience. They're decorating themselves, because they have a concept of aesthetic beauty beyond the skin they're born with. They create rudimentary jewelry to enhance their physical features and represent their tribal allegiances. In terms of intelligence in Azeroth, raptors are less like tigers and more like murlocs.

Who originally created Wow Insider and why? I understand that this site is run by AOL, and it lists the people who post on this site, but it doesn't tell me who started it all, and the motives behind it.
Scrolling through our staff list, it doesn't look like any of the members of the original WoW Insider staff are actually here anymore. The closest thing to it was Liz Harper, our previous editor-in-chief, but I don't think even she was here in the beginning.
I can't provide insight into the founding days of WoW Insider, but I do know it has always been a part of AOL. Back in the day, Weblogs, Inc. was all about building up a bunch of super-niche microblogs. Why have a blog about cars when you can have a blog for specific brands!? ... Yeah, that didn't last long.
I'm assuming the founding parties simply scrounged up proof that the audience existed for it, made their pitch, and got approval. When it comes to the internet, most things are built based on "this thing I want to exist doesn't exist yet, so I'll do it myself." I figure WoW Insider was the same. Joystiq spawned WoW Insider, which in turn spawned Massively. Now we're a great big, happy family.

Where do you guys get your pics for food? You always seem to make yummy food look not so much. Do you guys need some better pics or do you like to use those to spur conversation? I need to know!
I'm offended, sir and/or madam!

You see, we hire only the best to find our food picture -- that is, Google Image Search and Flickr's Creative Commons.

Okay, that last one is mine. S'more pizza is delicious, y'all.

The S'mores pizza, in at least one incarnation, is sold by the Papa Murphy's take-and-bake chain.
I've tried it once. It was tasty, but my tolerance for sweets has declined some. I felt it was "too much of a good thing". I encourage you to make your own independent evaluations, though. :)

I'll give you the s'mores pic but this looks a little better...

It doesn't take much effort to get a tasty pic vs the ones we usually get to look at. So I will go with option B. They want us to talk about their foods! But we would talk about it anyway. They say we "eat with our eyes first" well that also means we can be put off with our eyes too! I usually read wowinsider over breakfast so go easy my good columnists. You know as I sit here typing away the reason they don't use proper pics is they would have to compensate/give credit to the photographer and that can get messy so I understand now. Surprised no one brought that before. Anyways enjoy. I will continue to hunt for better food pics to post to soothe your weary palates.

What does it say about me that my reaction to that string of pictures was, "Man, I could *really* go for some fucking escargot right now"?

Local pizza place where I'm at does a smores pizza. They use nutella spread on the crust for the chocolate. Yummy.

Has anyone else had the problem where the portrait pics of some npcs or mobs are broken up? They are sometimes all cracked up, or even all black. I reload my ui but that doesnt seem to help. Im wondering if there's some sort of folder im suppossed to delete.

It sounds like an issue with your graphics card tbh. The only time I've had this type of discoloration was when I either upgraded the driver of my graphics card to one not yet recognized by blizzard, or I needed to update mine. I'd try your graphic card's manufacture website to see if it's time for an upgrade.

Escargots (Snails) are actually very good. The taste and texture is somewhat similar to cooked mushrooms. And I find that odd considering I like snails but I can't stand mushrooms.
Oh wait, it's because the snails are usually smothered in delicious garlic herb butter.

I want snails AND mushrooms smothered in delicious garlic herb butter now.
Xayíde May 16th 2011 12:18PM
Lol, when I glanced at that I actually thought they were some ugly looking olives O_o
Chairman Kaga May 16th 2011 2:10PM
Nah, I'll stick with Dave Barry's assessment:
"Escargot" is French for "fat crawling bag of phlegm".

marshmallow is american for horse bones and skin ground up and cooked.

A fond memory of when I lived in Spain was summer evenings at the local bar for a round of caracoles (tiny snails) and beer. They came in a little flat ceramic bowl, and everyone would just sit around gabbing, drinking, and slurping down little morsels of snail.
Good times.

Yay! Anchovies on S'mores Pizza! I thought I was the only one!!!
Wait, I don't do that. That would taste TERRIBLE.
