Breakfast Topic: Does WoW ever creep you out?
If you asked the average player to describe the overall tone of Azeroth, I'd wager that a lot of them would say that it is colorful, epic, or even downright cartoonish. But in my mind, the World of Warcraft we know sometimes takes a detour from the entertaining to the downright creepy. Whether it be intentionally scary or macabre things such as giant tarantulas in Terrokkar forest or stuff that just gives you the heebie-jeebies (like the Satanic children that walk the dusty road from Stormwind to Goldshire), WoW has a lot of things that put a shiver up and down your spine.
I've seen a lot of gross, scary or weird things in game, but it wasn't until the Shattering that I had a major creepfest moment. I was flying idly over Hillsbrad surveying the damage of the area, when I noticed bears -- except they didn't look like the bears I knew from the zone prior. They were bears ... with spider egg sacs infesting their flesh. Being a major arachnophobe and having a lot of issues with parasites and the like, I took my drake out of there as fast as I could so I wouldn't feel ill.
What about Warcraft creeps you the heck out?

Those creepy singing sunflowers........

I only get scared from the game while playing it when I'm tanking. I think the pressure from it and closeness kind of makes me all the more alert. I remember my first real raid ever was to tank the four horsemen at the beginning of Wrath, and I was nearly shitting my pants the whole time. As dps I never really feel like I have anything important to do besides mash my buttons. :\

Stupid comment system!

Yeah the infested bears are horrific, without a doubt.
Another quest that made me stop was early on in Northrend. You have to pick up a courier bag from the Forsaken, and all the flavor text says is, "LOOK at this stuff! Why are the Forsaken so evil??"
Of course, your mind starts filling in what the items could be. I knew intuitively that the bag MUST contain like ... severed kitten heads ... and I hated the Forsaken that much more.

Stratholme level 40ish (i think) dungeon is the creepiest place in wow. I never ran the dungeon in original wow and loved the Culling of Stratholme in Wolk. Recently, I wandered to Eastern Plaguelands and strolled in to check it out never having seen it before. Brrrr, gave me the chills. The dead red sky, eerie music, everything is dead and decaying, and now knowing what it used to look like from Wrath... All it needed was a chainsaw sound and I would have wet myself. Check it out if you haven't been it's worth it. Blizz should add some Halloween content in that joint for sure.

The scarabs in Zul'Farrak got me. They used to be smaller. Now they're bigger. And when you get to that one area that's full of once-small-now-much-bigger scarabs, it really gave me the willies.

Magmaw gives me the willies whenever he impales himself on the spike.
It's the flailing legs that freak me out. I don't mind silithids, just the wiggling legs on Magmaw. Ugh.

Stealing the wolver cubs, and being forced to kill their den "mother" in the process.

For some reason, I got the whole "Walrus and the Carpenter" thing stuck in my head over these dailies, and decided that those nice Kalu'ak with their plummy British upper-crust voices... were *eating* the nice tender young wolvar we were "rescuing" from their natural homes. The walrus were so... contentedly fat. An epic fishing pole was not motivation enough for me to keep doing that, once I layered that poem onto the situation at hand.
Then again, I'm another of those people who finds the singing sunflowers ghastly horrible.
The bears in Hillsbrad definitely take the cake, though.

That entire quest creeps me out. In Australia we have what's known as the "Stolen Generation" which only stopped a few decades ago but started long before that, where indigenous children were taken (yes, taken) from their parents because white people wanted to breed them out of existence. There are no words to describe how appalling it was.
I cannot do the quest where the walrus people ask you to retrieve the children of their enemies without thinking of the Stolen Generation and feeling... quite sick.

In Stratholme, there are random humans charred to ashes sparkling with little fire embers in the streets. Usually kneeling down and screaming up at the sky. Now that creeped me out the first time I found one.

There is something very creepy about the two giant "ancients" in Vash'jir. It only got worse when you actually go inside them and talk directly to their brain.
Ew.

Moon Guard's Lion's Pride Inn would give Rob Zombie nightmares.

Duskwood is pretty creepy, and I never like the spiders... but the only thing that really affects me on a personal, IRL level is the (horde) quest in Hillsbrad (I think) where you're asked to go poison Stanley, the dog. It's one quest I refuse to do on principle. My worgen hunter's mastiff is named Stanley in his honor.
deluded spider May 19th 2011 5:14PM
When I had a hunter, I tried to tame Stanley (it said it was possible, dunno if it really is). But some stupid Hillsbrad farmers killed me while I was trying, and if I remember right, that was my only chance to tame him because the quest was completed as soon as I poisoned him. I was so pissed.

The whispers in the throne room in the ruins of Lordaeron and the bell tolling. The blood on the floor where the crown fell.
The burnt bodies in Stratholme, arms up trying in vain to shield themselves.
That weird thing in the Undercity spewing out the green slime. What the hell is it?
That freaking nasty worm hole in Deepholm, eeeeeeeew!!!!!
Raziellionheart May 19th 2011 3:01PM
I find the quest in northrend really disturbing where you poison and kill malygos's consort. Then you burn her corpse at his door step and taunt him to about it. That quest line is creepy because you get half way in before you realized how Fed up it is! You had a part in killing somebodies lover and burning there body in front of them!!!!!!
Swifteye May 19th 2011 3:38PM
Maybe it's because he has A HARPOON SHAFT STICKING OUT OF HIS HEAD... that is one badass shark... like "I have a harpoon IN MY BRAIN yet I'm still swimming; what's your silly little hammer gonna do to me, punk?"
Yeah... I don't like sharks... Tank is seriously creepy. o.o;;
Saitenyo May 19th 2011 4:13PM
Ohh plenty of things. All the undead mobs in general, as I'm creeped out by zombies (I avoid horror films like the plague), and the extra-spindly spiders as I'm arachnophobic.
But what really stood out for me were the burnt corpses frozen in agony in that firey pit with the giant turtle in Hyjal.
