Patch 4.2 brings quality-of-life changes for jewelcrafting

The other thing that reeks of awesome is the brand spanking new JC bag. Every expansion seems to bring with it new profession bags, and Blizzard seems to randomly leave certain ones out. This time, we get the Luxurious Silk Gem Bag. Combined with the ability to stack cut gems, we're in business.
These will both be particularly welcome changes once epic gems are launched, eventually doubling the number of different types of items gem sellers keep in their bags. Personally, I'm hoping that this change is in preparation for the imminent launch of epic gems in 4.2; however, I've logged into the PTR and prospected some pyrite each build and as yet have not seen anything new.
The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs -- plus new Tier 12 armor!

I really dont think we'll see epic gems in only the second raiding tier, they werent released with SSC/TKE and they werent released with Ulduar.
But having cut gems stack, that is an awesome change, i woulda loved that back in wrath when i was heavy into the gem market.

I thought they did have epic gems in ulduar
gewalt May 19th 2011 11:37PM

Honestly Basil, I dont think we'll get epic gems this patch. Yes, in Wrath we got them in the second content patch(3.2), but what was in that patch? The second batch of new raid content(ToC), and I think this is when epic gems will come out.
I don't think we will get epic gems until the raid AFTER the Firelands is released which, if the rumors are true, will be the War of the Ancients raid.

3.2 was Ulduar. Epics gems werent introduced yet.
jravelo May 19th 2011 10:49PM
We used to get raids in every major patch during WOTLK
Ulduar=3.1
TOC+epic gems=3.2

I don't think we'll be getting epic gems just yet. Even though this is patch 4.2 and some people are saying we got epic cuts in 3.2 I don't think you can really consider the two things the same way. Blizzard is working on creating more frequent patches for content, instead of so many "massive" patches. As a result I don't think we'll see it at the beginning of patch 4.2 -- but we might see it near the end of this forthcoming raiding tier as part of one of their "mini" but more "Frequent" patches.

Cut gems, they be stacking? Allefreakingluia!
xiani May 19th 2011 8:28PM
Oh yes, those 4 stacks of dreamcloth I have accumulated are going to bring in mucho gold!
Jewelcrafters are some of my favourite customers, they always seem to have plenty of cash to burn;)
Better start dumping my final few BC 'Bag of Jewels' too, was nice while it lasted...
Dalrint May 19th 2011 8:35PM
It sort of makes sense the epic gems aren't coming, right? 4.2 is the 3.1 of this expansion, and epic gems came in 3.2 right? With the tournament? So we'll probably see them whenever the second raid-patch comes, whatever is after firelands.
Eldoron May 19th 2011 9:11PM
I agree with the rest of the guys. They shouldn't bring epic gems yet, and I hope they won't

My Holy Pally has always been miner BS, but I think I will level up a miner DK and finally drop mining for JC on my pally

JC has been the greatest money maker for me in Cataclysm ...
I currently sell glyphs, gems and some of the Vanilla boa enchants, and I constantly have to cut a bunch of gems daily to replace all the ones I sold. Just get the right cut recipes, check TUJ on your server to make sure which cuts sell the most.
riley May 20th 2011 3:06PM
Whats TUJ and will it help me actually make money with JC'ing? Because I hate cutting gems that don't sell.
Keith May 19th 2011 9:20PM
I wouldn't hold your breath on rings stacking. Things that stack are things that can't be mutated - they probably just store an item ID and a quantity. Armour can be enchanted, it can lose durability, crafted stuff stores a crafter's name, etc. You can't just store the ID/quantity tuple.
Arrohon May 19th 2011 9:33PM
I think it was more of a joke because we all know that will never happen.
Basil Berntsen May 19th 2011 9:40PM
Yeah, I don't seriously think it's even possible. I just know that they take up so much darned room... at least 85% of my bag slots.
Vladpr May 20th 2011 9:02AM
@Basil
For a second there I thought you meant the 346 ilvl rings, and was thinking:
"85% of your bags??? I only just make 1 of each! Are you selling them THAT much?" Then re-read your post and actually checked the blue ring you meant and though "Ahhhhh THOSE rings ..." haha
Basil Berntsen May 20th 2011 9:36AM
Those things will be the death of me.
