On reading your article, specifically the last solution, I thought that maybe they could tack something like this onto Searing Flames or what have you;

'In addition, whenever you use Fire Nova, it'll spread Flame Shock to all nearby targets. Flame Shock's spread this way deal 50% less damage.'

Like a DK pestilence. But maybe that's too homogenized.
