So the Nether is Warcraft's version of Aether. Cool.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aether_%28classical_element%29

Not really, especially if one follows the wiki article. The Twisting Nether is not an element, it is not manipulable, it is not pure, and perfect versions of things do not exist within it.It's more like a fuzzy magical nebula that exists around planets in the Great Dark Beyond.

I don't know if there's any proof of it really, but I choose to think shadow priests use nether/aether as their power source. That's why I named my priest Ethera. (Not that it's the most clever name ever or anything, but I like it.) It seems to me that whatever their power source is, it's not the same as whatever it is warlocks use (fel energy, I guess). They do share shadow spells, but having swapped from a lock to a priest main, I think it's fair to say the "flavor" and style of each classes spells feel very different. I feel like it's ambiguous just how evil shadow priests can be, but it's less ambiguous how evil warlocks are. That's not to say shadow priests can't be bad, but I'd say they feel more mysterious than warlocks, overall. I dunno. I think nether is way under-explained in WoW, as are shadow priests in general, and it makes me sad because I'd love to know more about both. :\

Jabadabadana,I didn't mean to imply that it was a point for point parallel of the Nether, just a starting point for some of the ideas about the Nether. As an example, it lies outside the planet where the Aether is above the material planet.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=30183http://www.wowhead.com/item=23572http://www.wowhead.com/item=31653I would suggest that Nether is, indeed, an element that can be purified. Certainly the number of "nether" items in the games supports that argument.

@JenniferYou can't take in-game items too seriously when it comes to lore. After all, for most of WotLK we were using armor made from saronite, with no indication it was purified, so our characters should be insane and serving the Old Gods now.
