Inscription research changes

Yes. We will be changing the discovery spells so they can teach all possible glyphs, and the books will simply provide a no-cooldown method to do the same thing.
Glyph books made all kinds of sense in Wrath, when they were obtainable anywhere by anyone. Now that they're only dropping for people as they level, the supply has plummeted. New scribes are having their short hairs held over the fire by the people who will end up paying too much for their glyphs, so I suppose it's a probably fair, but Blizzard is changing it.
Coming soon, new scribes will be able to finish learning their glyph books by research alone, and books will only be an added bonus. This will reduce the price for them, as cheap scribes who are willing to wait will no longer be snatching up any inexpensive books they find.
If you have any of these books that you're trying to flip for a profit, use them or sell them quickly, before the mat is pulled from under you. Take heart; I still have at least six Tomes of Polymorph: Turtle in a storage guild bank somewhere that I took a bath on. That's all part of the fun of speculation, and it makes wins feel better.

When I saw the above Blue post a few days ago, I put up the 3 Glyph Books I had on the AH. I was saving them in case they added new glyphs to learn from them.
They sold for 500 Gold each.

Profiting out of other people's misery has never been so delightful, eh?

500G? Sounds like a bargain - they're usually between 1200 and 2000 on my realm... and my scribe still needs more than 30 of them. He's finished all of the "research" items already.

Ah, the days of selling glyphs for 300g each are coming to a middle. *raises a glass in memory*

OMG thank you!! I have been stuck with about 30 glyphs to learn and I have refused to pay upwards of $450G per book to learn them. I can now research them (I would be fine having a one-a-day cooldown) and complete this profession - thank you Blizzard!

With professions like JC being able to purchase all of their top recipies via daily quests, and cooking also using a daily quest to obtain the the recipies, has anyone ever looked at how many dailies are required to gain all of the patterns for either one? Is it more than are required for Inscription? This is just my guess, but either minor or Northrend research probably take longer to learn all available glyphs than either cooking or JC.

Agree with you that research should have netted you all the glyphs you needed or some exchange program where you trade inks or whatever to learn all your glyphs. There are several scribes in my guild and between us all we still don't have every glyph thanks to RNG. That's a pretty shitty thing to do to scribes IMO. I don't scribe to make gold I do it to save gold and help my guild mates out.
Totally disagree with you on having BC recipes changed because "there are less people running BC content". That's part of the dues of leveling said profession. It's rather profitable right now to farm and sell most BC mats. Does it take a little longer to get around between outland/northrend? You betcha. And that is probably why. There is a LOT of money to be made farming frostweave right now and it's never been easier. You don't even need to step into a dungeon (although you could).
I do think 1 of 2 things should change- the requirement or availability of Khorium for the epic engineering flyer. There just isn't enough of it spawning because people aren't there farming outland ores. Then again it's a luxury item to have and there is no difference between the 2 flyers since they all scale with your flying speed now.

I still reckon 'will be changing' is a bit vague. When, Blizzard? When?? D:

Probably 4.2

Why? Because it gives people an opportunity to recover some money as they level their professions. Not to mention the lower level toons coming up who by the time they hit the cap might not be able to make a whole lot of gold in a saturated market. Not everyone likes to spend an hour or more at the AH.

@Stella
If you can't be bothered to farm your mats you should pay the price to level at your convenience. Time is money. You can't have it both ways. If you are making a toon with no gathering profession and have no toon to support it then you want ores and herbs cheaper too? That's the yin and yang effect for stacking two crafting professions on a toon. It's another one of the decisions Blizzard wants you to make. Just like If you are a hardcore raider and can't be bothered to farm that's the flipside.

My question is, how long will it take to get the glyphs just doing research now?
The main thing the books brought me during wrath was a quicker way into the inscription market. For new inscriptionists it still sounds like the books are still the only way to speed up the 2 glyph a day approach. They're still gonna be selling for a nice premium given their current rarity I'm betting, even after this change.
