For me, the problem is that if you are a dedicated, 3-4 night per week raider, you are already done with the current content. If you are like me, and have a shortage of time, you are already behind on the content and can't catch up because you don't have the right gear. Motivation becomes a problem when you are regulated to the Random Dungeon/BG Finders and dailies.
To a certain extent, I blame the player base. Honestly, the vast majority of pug runs are fine, and the players are good people. But that one run that goes poorly can turn me off the game for a week. I am very gunshy about using LFD for that reason. Like I said, most of the time it is fine, but when it's bad it's really bad.
I wish I had a viable solution to go along with my complaints, but I don't. All I know is that I need a way to catch up on the end game content when real life gets in the way for a few months, but I realize that it is not possible to customize the game by invidual need. I'm just saying, my motivation is not there when it feels like there is no chance to catch up to the end game content.
