The Queue: I heart whale sharks

Look at that big, happy galoot. Why would you ever even consider killing him, especially when he drops no loot?
Sane asked:
Has there been any information on how T11 pieces will be purchased in 4.2? Currently the helm and shoulder require raid tokens to purchase. When 4.2 comes out, do you think Blizzard will convert them to be purchasable by JP or do you think the nerf to normal mode will keep enough people running T11 dungeons?
As of the current patch 4.2 PTR build, the helm and shoulders still require tokens to purchase. Blizzard hasn't said either way whether they'll stay this way, though it's worth noting that the other three pieces have already had their costs adjusted to their intended 4.2 costs.
As for people continuing to run normal tier 11 content, yeah, I think they will. With only seven bosses in this tier, I'm not sure they'll have much choice!
Task asked:
With Blizzcon coming in a few months and the subsequent pet that comes when you are there either in person or via direct tv livestream, is it possible that I could lose last years digital code for Deathy if I gotten this years in game one?
I haven't activated the my Deathy code as of yet but it's still in my email inbox.
I think it's safe to say that this year's pet won't be Deathy, of course, so your new livestream code shouldn't replace your old one or anything -- though I would probably redeem it soon, if I were you!
Jack Spicer asked:
I heard that the new faction, Avengers of Hyjal, which is being added in 4.2 will only be associated with the new raid and not the new daily quest hub. So my question is this, why bother with the new daily quest hub?
While there's not a reputation attached to it, there is personal advancement in the form of growing your Sentinel Tree and choosing which vendors and content you want to access first. There's plenty of content (and rewards) available, like new gear, pets, and mounts.
James asked:
I'm a, for lack of better words, part-time raider that has had the glorious benefit of finding Zin'Rokh in a massive pile of dirt. However, whenever I do anything -like a random heroic- with the core raidiers in my guild, they treat me like I didn't really "earn" my epic weapon; that Zin'Rokh is a over-rated weapon and that real raiders use weapons they pry from the decrepit maw of Magmaw or the hands of Nefarian or Cho'gall. One person in particular keeps on touting Shalug'doom in my face like he is such a better raider than me; and he's a main-spec Holy Pally. It really is kind of demoralizing to receive treatment like that from someone who himself didn't even "earn" that weapon...even when it's awful for Ret Paladins anyways.
Your guildmates are stupid.

Question - how is hit scaling going to work in firelands? I have a vague memory of blizzard mentioning they want the higher level raids to potentially require more hit.
loop_not_defined May 28th 2011 2:27PM
I don't think they've done hit scaling yet, or have talked about it since then, but I might be wrong.
bimberiusz May 28th 2011 3:45PM
Well i think you can add this to the long list of broken promises from blizzard.

The fact that they haven't explicitly mentioned it yet doesn't mean it's not happening, they haven't "broken promises" quite yet.

People get amazingly self-righteous when it comes to "earning" high-level items. "You didn't EARN that staff! It was a lucky drop! You didn't have to WORK for it!"
Which amazes me, because I'm just pressing WASD and the number keys like everyone else. Maybe someone, somewhere is playing WoW with a Kinect and swinging a real broadsword and pouring his heart and soul into defeating the epic monsters, but... for most of the world, this is just a video game. We all put just as much "work" into getting items as everyone else; very little.
Question for the Queue: It seems to me that magic resistance is sort of a lame or unhelpful stat to have. I recall reading somewhere that we won't need to stack fire resist in the Firelands, which if true, makes me wonder why have it in the first place?
Do you think the resistance system is viable, or should it be revamped or even removed? It just doesn't seem to make that much of a difference.
Makoto99 May 28th 2011 2:12PM
Agreed about the self-righteousness. Warcraft is played by lots of self-conscious and uptight people (Not ALL players are that way, mind you... but plenty are). Owning "welfare epics" is a surefire way to set their Insecurity Alarms off at Threat Level Red.
Like you said - we hit the same keys and mouse buttons they do. Some people are better than others, some are worse.
Who cares where you got your cool junk as long as you use it properly?
razion May 28th 2011 2:14PM
In my opinion, resistances exist purely as a function so that there will always be a chance that when you get a green or blue random world drop that the random stats have a chance to inherently worthless to everyone of every spec. :D
Balmazer May 28th 2011 2:15PM
I know for me getting my Tyrande's Favorite Doll was harder, more time intensive, and more aggravating than any boss I've faced so far, which includes (while most aren't super hard) HLK back in Wrath and the other bosses and 12/12 and a few heroics this tier.
It took roughly one week of near non stop grinding except for raiding playing about 6 hours a day to get it.
jorge_av May 28th 2011 2:15PM
To me, resistance is like resilience rating. A PvP stat, nothing more.
MysticalOS May 28th 2011 2:31PM
tell your paladins not to AM electrocute. or even run resist aura from now on. and your tanks mot to use mirror of broken images on any raid fights anymore and see how well that goes for you with no resistances.
They will always have their place. Encounters are designed on the principle of having at least 195 from totem/aura/buff. So they are relevent. And i assure you they designed the fights with tanks having 595 during some of the boss fights to save a CD for something more important, like 12 pissed off bone constructs. Smart use of resistance is just another thing that gives players an edge to play encounters smart. That incinerate measure you AM vs the one you don't is quite noticable.
Do we stack resist gear BC style anymore? no. But only because blizz new feeling on it is impractical cuase then they'd have to design a fight around the concept of raid using resist gear and having crappy other stats. they'd basically have to lower the other stats of boss for his high magic damage. they realized there are better ways to tune fights then have the raid going in there in world greens and blues because they have shadow resist. :)
MysticalOS May 28th 2011 2:33PM
err brain fart, AM scorching breath or incinerate measure. Electrocute was my tank example for trinket :)
earthexile May 28th 2011 2:52PM
I have been chastised and educated, sir. I guess you miss these things when you play a Mage 95% of the time.
Sal May 28th 2011 3:46PM
I was going to make a comment about resists being useful from time to time, but then I started to think about playing with Kinect. I want to this. I want this now. Add WoW into my workout plan :D
icepyro May 28th 2011 3:47PM
Also of note, Blizz's new idea for resistances is to give things like frostfire damage, which counts as both frost and fire. Resistance checks use the lower value, so if you stack fire resist, it's going to hurt because that inherently means frost was not stacked and it will use the frost resist value to mitigate damage.
So it's not that resistance is bad or you shouldn't try for some kind of resistance, it's that Blizz has nixed the game of stacking one kind of resist by varying abilities to do different kinds of damage, and by a lack of gearing options. It appears like it's all talents, glyphs, and auras at high levels, and I'm cool with that since that is another indicator that Blizz doesn't want to have to balance around severe stacking.
I don't know what to expect out of firelands raids, but while most boss abilities will likely do fire damage, I bet there will be enough nature and shadow damage to keep people from stacking fire resist over more useful stats if resist can even be found (and Blizz has learned the hard way that if it's possible, someone will find a way).
Stardusted May 28th 2011 5:14PM
What? No "Resistance is futile" references? I'm either very proud or ashamed. Somewhere, a Borg is crying.

One could probably make a lot of money writing about the personalities found on WoW. It basically comes down to this- anyone griefing you on a video game is using their epeen to compensate for their RL inadequacies. Bottom line. I would say this- anyone who puts up with the different personalities in ANY raid/heroic has earned what they got.
Tom May 28th 2011 7:59PM
Sure but I think my question is - why has whether or not you "earned" your weapon even come up? Did they come out of the blue one day and tell you your weapon was undeserved? Or were you making a big deal about having it and they eventually got fed up and told you it wasn't important?
I feel like there is another side to the story.
Cricket May 28th 2011 8:04PM
I have on occasion used the magic resist elixir plus whatever resist buff our raid would provide and together they give about 30% reduced magic damage, which can be quite noticeable on quite a few of the t11 raid encounters. Resist stacking was a flawed system, but I wouldn't say there's no place for magic resistance in raiding. It's just not really all that useful a stat on gear anymore.
