Mouseover macros don't necessarily make you a better healer, but they can help with your reaction times. Also, I personally feel they make the whole process less clunky. It helps to be able to target heal through the same macro as well, though, so this is the template I use:
#showtooltip
#show
/cast [target=mouseover,exists,help][target=target,exists,help][target=player] Holy Light
That way, it has a priority system. If I have a mouseover target, it heals them. If not, it heals my actual target. If I have neither, it heals me rather than just failing. That macro can probably be condensed a bit, but since it's nowhere near the character limit, I haven't bothered.
