MMO Roundup: Zelda MMO, Fallout Online's apocalyptic future, and more

Is Zelda about to hit the MMO space? Nintendo, creator of the console hit Legend of Zelda, has just registered for an ESRB rating for a game called Zelda Universe. According to the ESRB website, this mysterious game has received an "E" rating with "violence" as the only descriptive text, but the game is listed as "online." Although all other Nintendo games have a console listed along with the rating, this particular title does not. |

Fallout Online's future in jeopardy as Interplay's finances suffer Fallout Online, the in-development MMO from Interplay, has been through some rough waters already, but it looks like the situation may be about to go from bad to -- pardon the pun -- apocalyptic. A recent SEC filing by Interplay indicates that the company is going through some rough financial times, which doesn't bode well for Fallout Online's future. |

Men outspend women on mobile social games Ladies (or gentlemen), is your man a gamer? If so, you may finally have a worthwhile retort for the next time he scoffs and rolls his eyes at that $10 non-combat pet you just had to have. A recent study by MocoSpace surveyed 1,500 "mobile social gamers" about their spending practices within social games. The results? "While 53 percent were male, and 47 percent female, 69 percent of men were buying virtual goods, while only 31 percent of females did." |

The rating isn't new, and it's probably referring to a web game that used to be at that site:

Yeah. It's an odd practice to receive ESRB ratings for a company's website, but Nintendo in particular is very careful about their ratings given their very wide demographic.
I'm interested to know what exactly made this news suddenly resurface now of all times; it sounds like somebody was digging for 25th anniversary info and started to see things that weren't there out of sheer desire.

While I adore and love the LoZ series, I think if this is a MMO it's a sign it has jumped the shark =/

How would it be jumping the shark?
Nintendo hasn't seemed to be slowing down with any original ideas so far, and truthfully, if you introduce a world where more than just Link is capable of vanquishing evil, you have more to work with.

F*** you, Nintendo.
I was doing pretty good, thinking this summer that I'd be able to relax and start playing WoW, FFXI, and FFXIV like I'd been really wanting too since the school year started, and now you throw the possibility of a Legend of Zelda (one of my favorite game franchises) MMO at me to eat up even more of my already booked time.
Thanks a pant load, Nintendo...

Also, WTB Deku, Goron, and Zora playable races.

Omg... A Zelda MMO would be the death of WoW for me. (note for me, not claiming wow will cease to exist)

...there's gonna be soooo much broken pottery...

I have to wonder if the 53% of purchases were from men buying something for their female SO.

Sadly the first poster was right. As soon as I saw the link for the "game"'s article, I read it over. Then I searched google. It's just an ESRB registry for the website. zelda universe is now the main site for all zelda games and news. They've had the name on reserve since 2008... NO ZELDA MMO :-(
Sincerest apologies, Aybarra

Thank you for the TOR link.
The WoT, TOR, or Rift debates are common in my "was raiding until Cata" guild. WoT gets the best reviews but is the least appealing to me. We shall see.

Wrong alarm, guys. This was only a rumor and there is not going to be Zelda Universe. Read news here: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zelda-news/nintendo-to-announce-zelda-universe-at-e3/
