Classic nostalgia is a quick romp through the rampant habit of wearing rose-colored glasses when looking back at vanilla World of Warcraft. A wizard named Nostalgia shows up to take two players through a quick whirl through old-world raiding.
It's easy to look back on older content with warm thoughts and somewhat biased opinions. After all, we loved the game we were playing, and since we get so invested in the game, it can be shocking to see it change.
Dorons Movies had a pretty good idea with this video. The sound quality was a little off; some tracks were very loud, while others were too quiet. Still, it was a solid effort, and I look forward to seeing more.

I can see the ragers jumping to the defense of 40m raids...
-Low drop rates made the best loot special -AFK players are the kind of n00bs that Blizz caters to in Cata -Dual spec makes suckier players because no one has to specialize in one role -5min buffs mean the raid actually had to be coordinated and efficient -No Horde pallies or Ally shammies kept the factions different, instead of homogenized crap like we have now -Splitting an instance up over a few nights is better than just steamrolling the whole thing in one night for welfare epics
Typing up this list I came to the realization that there's no way that most of the Vanilla loyalists are actually trying to defend the logistical headache they went through with 40 man raids. That'd be like trying to defend the use of punch cards for computer programming. It has to be more like "Wait, newer players don't have to suffer through that nightmare, but we can both progress at the same rate? Well FUCK THEM!"
...to which I say, the current generation of kids has been growing up on gigabytes. They never had to deal with hard drives and RAM on the MB or KB levels. Are you yelling at them for that?
I tried levelling up an Alt before the Cataclysm, but I got so bored of the grind I gave up. I'm currently levelling up one now as I've become so very bored of the end game content, and I have to say I'm really glad they've nerfed the 1-80 process so I barely spend any actual time in the zones. Even with the Cataclysm changing around appearance and updating the quests, a good majority of the zones look identical and the quests for the most part are still very dull. "Collect X amount of this." or "Kill X amount of these." I mean sure there's the real world outside but that's overrated...
Don't forget that during vanilla, many realms had 30-minute queues just to log into the game.
If you wanted to do a dungeon you had to form up a group of people (from only the same server) and walk to the dungeon entrance.
If you wanted to do battlegrounds you had your choice of 2-3 and the queue to enter the BG was over an hour. AV took a couple of hours and you got the equivalent of about 50 honor points.
I was thinking the same thing. No one let bears main tank in vanilla.
Druids were for heals in Vanilla if you wanted to raid but the rest of the week was pure frustration. Want to PVP? Find someone who you could tag with to protect you since your dps was non existent. Same thing was true of farming mats. You could change your spec (eventually) but it was a 100g charge to another spec and back. Keep in mind this was in an era where grinding to get gold for an epic mount cost of 800g took people weeks and months. I still have nightmares going into Eastern Plaguelands from when I was farming larval acid and herbs. I swear those demonspawn dogs aggro'ed from a mile away and it took a minute to kill them every time it happened. Unless I aggro'ed more which it usually resulted in a corpse run.
Also he brings up bloodlust on shamans when they didn't have bloodlust/heroism til bc when the shamans and paladins were given to the factions that didn't previously have them anyway... but yeah there was a lot more things wrong with vanilla than just the few mentioned here...
Yeah, the sound levels were so unbalanced that I had to stop watching halfway through. Once it got to the 40M raid section I couldn't hear a word that was being said. A fun little video otherwise.
Turning up your speakers when the dialog got really low helped.
Honestly, I liked this video a whole lot. Blizzard is right when they call Classic WoW an inferior cousin to the current WoW; things are so much better than they were all those years ago, and I'm really glad I didn't have to suffer through it.

Haha, that was great. Never heard of him before, I'll be looking out in future. The undead voice was good too.

The way he said "Hindsight is a bitch," made me laugh so hard, my figurative Funny Bone shattered.

I for one do not miss those days at all.

UBRS corpse runs.
That is all.
sonikusan Jun 1st 2011 12:48PM
Uh...why is the tank a Druid?
Feral in vanilla had a hard time coming up with Defense points so they wouldn't get crushing blows from bosses.
I think you want to put a prot warrior there.
