@PyromelterI don't care how FUN they were - they are, it's cool to zoom around. Sure. But the fact is that Blizz modelers spend 000's of hours building a world that - thanks to flying mounts - is now almost completely irrelevant. Most people today hop on the flying mount and follow the arrows to the quest area, hop back on and fly back; when done with that hub, they mount up, fly to the next hub, rinse and repeat. Everything about the world - the terrain, the ambiance, the relationship of places, the scale - is now irrelevant and mostly unseen. The various quest zones could each be segregated little shoeboxes floating in the ether for all they have to do with each other, and the dangerousness of the world in general is gone. Pre-flying, EPL was simply *hard* to get around in, because of all the bloody wandering mobs. It added to the scariness. I submit that making that sort of thing irrelevant removes the very atmosphere that makes a world feel like a world. What the dungeon finder did was destroy any sense of community a server might have. In vanilla, by lvl 40, you were already quite familiar with your level-peers: who sucked, who rocked, who was worth adding to a pug and who you knew would make that 2-hour BRD run into a 4-hour agony. Now? It's just an endless random cavalcade of names; I'd love to see stats of what the hit-rate is on seeing someone you've EVER seen before in the DF. A lack of ability to 'preference' someone in that is glaring, essentially we can /ignore someone and we never see them again, but can't do the opposite to even slightly encourage friendships. Further, the insta-port to dungeons is damned convenient, but we've all had the laughable experience of people dropping group because they can't even find their way back to the instance from the GY after a wipe. Seriously, that's an excessive disconnect between the instances and the world they (allegedly) sit in.Otherwise, I agree entirely with your subsequent posts.
