Patch 4.2 New Hunter Pets: All 8 rares found

The eight new pets include two spirit cats (Ahnka and Magria), a spirit owl (Ban'thalos), and five uniquely colored lava spiders from the Firelands (Solix, Skitterflame, Kirix, Anthriss, and Deth'tilac). Each of these creatures provides a unique challenge to the hunter trying to tame them. Taming one of these unique creatures will be a mark of prestige to the hunter toting them around, not only for their rarity. Some of the lava spiders have some pretty tricky mechanics; Deth'tilac, especially, feels like a marathon.

Abilities Deals damage based on the amount of armor the player is wearing.
How to tame Take off your armor to survive Ahnka's onslaught and tame.

Abilities
- Harsh Moonlight Call upon the harsh light of Elune to burn foes. Deals Arcane damage over 4 seconds.
How to tame Ban'thalos flies very high in the air, so careful pulling to survive the fall is necessary. If you survive the fall and Ban'thalos is still aggroed to you, you'll need to put down a well-timed Frost Trap and pop Deterrence to mitigate the Harsh Moonlight damage, which will wreck your day. Survive all this and begin taming when Ban'thalos is trapped. Congrats on your ghostly owl.
Works similar to Ahnka -- same mechanics, but a blue glow instead of a white/clear glow.

Abilities:
- Flashfire Attack speed increased by 1,000%, movement speed increased by 100%.
- Blazing Speed Too fast to tame.

Abilities
- Superheated Too hot to safely tame.
- Burning Frenzy Damage increased based on current energy. If energy reaches zero, creature dies.
Abilities
- Toxic Presence Deals nature damage to all nearby enemies. Deals additions damage to pets and minions.

Abilities Anthriss shoots a web at you that will kill you unless you submerge yourself in lava.
How to tame Staying submerged and taming will negate the effects of the web and allow you to tame this pet.

Abilities
- Deth Strike Deth'tilac strikes an enemy, instantly killing them. This attack cannot be dodged, blocked, or parried. Costs Deth'tilac 10% of maximum health.
- Aura of Deth'spair Aura that reduces healing by 99%.
- Deth Metal Gains speed when he isn't being damaged.
The alternative is to try to get him to use Deth Strike enough that it wrecks his health until he is tamable.

I am sorry these pets are nothing to look forward to, sure they will be fun to try to tame but the reward is reused models of non unique animals. Where are the core hounds, phoenixes, and lava worms?

instead we can look forward to rivers of QQ, from all those 'hardcore' players on pvp servers who normally cant get enough of ganking others and making their lives a misery, and are insulting to 'carebear' players. They will now be demanding they/the creatures are not pvp flagged whilst tameing lol.
Suck it up and remember, ganking is fun and skillfull, even when it happens to you. hahahahaha.

Ganking is SKILLFUL? Now, that is where it's MY turn to laugh. Any idiot can hit someone while they are doing something else. Please. Just because you have no ethic about when and where you attack someone DOES NOT make you a skillful player. LOL!
I live on a pvp server, I totally expect the pet-griefing to happen, I'm accustomed to it but it's got NOTHING to do with skill. I know there are immature pvp-nerds that have some sort of inner-narrative that tells them otherwise, that's fine. ;-)

I may be wrong but when I read Sharlatan's comment, I sensed immense sarcasm. It seems more to me like he was taking a stab at the players who enjoy ganking.

I kinda agree with Xlo. While those new pet taming mechanics are sure interesting, far more challenging than any other pet introduced to the game, 2 copies of Gondria and 5 re-colored spiders are not something I really care about. Only pet I want from those is the Ban'thalos: it looks like a mix of Olm the Wise with an Emerald Skytalon, plus the added sick wing effects.

This all sounds awesome and makes me want to get my 25 hunter to the level cap.
I'd like to ask the community nicely not to use this as a jumping off point for demanding cool stuff unique to the other classes. If this becomes a QQ reference for the rest of us, we'll just ruin the chances of other content like this coming up down the line.

I'm not about to ask for unique things like this for every class, but I will ask why the decision was made for hunters to get a unique, hunter-only minigame in 4.2.

Because they took away the unique hunter minigame that was pet happiness. When you suffer through a system like that for 6 years on your non-hunter class, and the devs finally realise it was a bad idea and take it away, then you'll get the good minigame :P
