I apologize if I am way off here, or in case it's been asked before, but is it possible that the owl is the same model as Olm, the owl in Felwood?
I actually ran into him a while ago and tamed him, and he is nice-looking as well.

(scroll through the different screenshots at the wowhead-site...in some pictures you can't tell he has a spectral look because of the backgrounds, but especially in the second shot, you see it)
