iPhone Mobile Authenticator temporarily removed from iTunes store

Don't panic if you happen to have the authenticator tied to your account -- all current authenticators will continue working as usual, but players looking to download or update the app for their iPhone or iTouch devices will have to wait until the new version is released. Also note that whatever this issue may be, it is not a security issue; your account is perfectly safe.
Follow after the break for the full announcement.
Due to an issue with the latest version of the iPhone Battle.net Mobile Authenticator application (version 1.3.0), we've temporarily taken down the app from the iTunes store. Rest assured that we're already working on a new version and will be providing an update in this thread as soon as that new update is up. Please note that until the new version is made available, iPhone and iTouch users will be unable to download the app or upgrade it to the latest version.
If you use a non-iPhone version of the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator, have not upgraded to version 1.3.0, or if you upgraded an existing version via iTunes but have not retrieved a new serial number, your Mobile Authenticator should be unaffected by this issue and continue to function as normal. Regardless if you retrieved the update or not, there is no security threat or risk associated with the Authenticator's ability to continue protecting your account while attached.
As always, if you are experiencing any issues with an Authenticator or Mobile Authenticator, we encourage you to contact our customer support staff for assistance - https://us.battle.net/support/en/ticket/submit
Thanks!

Thanks for post

I wonder if this is due to the Lodsys patents...
http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2011/06/lodsys-to-apple-your-letter-means-nothing-were-suing-developers.ars
Preemptively removing patent-related functionality until Apple shows how much spine (and money for defense) it's willing to use.

That patent refers to in-app purchases, which I don't believe is relevant to anything in the authenticator app.
raingod Jun 3rd 2011 5:59PM
The lodsys nonsense is only in regards to in app purchases, so very doubtful it had anything to do with Blizz pulling the app.

Stella,
What the F*%K are you talking about?
Beldoro Jun 3rd 2011 6:22PM
Seeing as it involves the WoW Forum community, I'd say it's pretty tough and thankless.

Interesting.
I'm glad I didn't update to the newest version of the authenticator when I had the chance.
You didn't mention it in the article, but there was an update on iTunes available for a few minutes. It mentioned something about adding the ability to back up your serial number or something of that nature. It was enough that I thought it was odd and would wait for news of someone else trying it first.

Pretty sure Stella doesn't even have a WoW account ... he just flops around bitching at Blizzard on third-party blogs.

I was in a panic a few days ago when I noticed this, as I was trying to log into my battle.net account and couldn't find the app on my phone. I figured I'd accidentally deleted it and went to redownload (It will usually pull up the old data if you haven't done a proper restore since removing it) and it was just... Gone, not there.
I did finally find it on my phone and all went well, but wow, I was very worried and a bit freaked out when it wasn't on.

I guess you didn't try the SEARCH iPHONE feature first?
Tzivya Jun 4th 2011 7:22AM
I searched for 'warcraft', not 'battle.net', so it didn't come up. I did eventually find it when I used 'authenticator' instead. :P

That was meant for Swampthing. Stupid nesting! I am full of fails this week, apparently. :)

So is the authenticator actually available on IPod Touch systems, too? If so, I'm getting one ASAP.
Buzzer Jun 4th 2011 2:40PM
Yes, it can be downloaded on the iPod Touch (when they get this fixed, of course!). I have it and it works very well.
Saitenyo Jun 4th 2011 4:48PM
Yup, I've got the mobile authenticator on my iPod touch. All apps that work on the iPhone work on the iPod touch as far as I can tell. An iPod touch is basically an iPhone without the phone options or 3G service.
