The Queue: Panda ... nope, not going to do it

Every time the pandaren get mentioned in The Queue, we end up with a week straight of pandaren headers, themes and puns. I'm going to break that trend and completely avoid the topic of the pandaman in this edition of The Queue and hopefully end the horrible cycle of pain.
riley asked:
Do you think Warcraft ever seen an ending to its story or will Blizzard keep adding content and lore until they subscriber numbers drop below profitability? Will we ever get to fight Sargeras or will the servers just shut down in the middle of the 6th expansion?
Blizzard won't end World of Warcraft until it becomes financially irresponsible to keep the game running. It certainly isn't going to write a definite ending in. Blizzard will keep churning content out as long as the game sustains itself. If we end up fighting Sargeras in WoW's lifetime, it will most likely just be revealed that something even worse is around the corner.
Scooba asked:
What's up with poison gas storage sitting in the back of the ruins above undercity? Is it supposed to imply sylvannas is up to something?
Imply? We are way beyond implications, brother. Sylvanas is riding the crazy train as fast as it'll go. Just look around the Eastern Kingdoms in Cataclysm. Sylvanas is actively wielding plagues in battle, obliterating Gilneas, Hillsbrad, et cetera, and raising the dead as her servants. She's dag nasty evil. Remember the plague that Putress used at the Wrathgate? It only existed because Sylvanas told him to create it. Now that Putress and Varimathras are out of the way, she's happily using it wherever and whenever she wants, all according to plan.
I would not be surprised for one single moment if we learn that Sylvanas is current holder of the shards of Frostmourne.
Goblinsgoboom asked:
On the topic of new playable races: what do you think would be the next races for Horde and Alliance? I know we just got new races, I'm just wondering. Arroka would be nice for Horde. I love those little bird men. :)
Frankly, I think there are plenty of races -- Blizzard isn't even utilizing the potential of the ones it has. There needs to be some focus on the less-loved races of the Horde and the Alliance before Blizzard thinks about adding more. Because of that, I haven't put a lot of thought into which races it could add.
That being said, I suspect the arrakoa would more likely be an Alliance race! If you pay attention in The Burning Crusade, many of the arrakoa who are friendly to players are arrakoa that turned to the Light and thus abandoned the factions of their race who worship less pleasant deities. The overall arc of the draenei is to build an army of the Light, so if there were a friendly faction of arrakoa, they would probably be Light-worshipping birdies who sign on with the Alliance. The Horde can have ... I don't know, ogres, I guess. Definitely not ethereals; those guys are way too cool as a neutral faction.

Ogres belong with whichever side can thump them the hardest as per ogre tradition.

My Rogue puppy, before he saw the Light and faction-changed from the zombie infested ranks of the Horde, got his "King of Dire Maul" thang. As a result, I would love the Ogres to be a playable race, either in the Horde once the zombie hordes of the Bitch Queen were exterminated like the vermin they are, to fill out the gap in the ranks that would leave, or even better, as members of the Alliance.
They would give us more average height, as two of our races, the brave Scottish - accented Dwarves and the brainy Silicon Valley Gnomes are a bit short, and it would be fairly easy to see at a distance what class they were - two heads means a caster type - Priest, Warlock or Mage, whilst one head means melee - either Rogue, Paladin (yeah, I said Ogre Paladins. Why not?) and Warrior.
The Horde could easily get the Naga. Or the Ethereals. EIther would be a perfect fit in my opinion. Not the Arakkoa. I hate them after the battles in Terrokar Forest.
redwinger_6 Jun 6th 2011 11:20AM
One faction of Ethereals could join the Alliance, giving them a mercenary type like the Goblins, while the rest remain neutral. Not all Goblins joined the Horde, after all.
Amaxe Jun 6th 2011 11:37AM
I always thought ethereals would have made a great counterpoint to the goblins. Both factions get a "Sell my mother to the organ harvesters if the price is right" race.
MattKrotzer Jun 6th 2011 12:36PM
I'm not sure the Ethereals HAVE organs...
anuillae Jun 6th 2011 12:44PM
'Sell my mother's bandages on the AH', then.

I know this question gets asked a lot, and it will continue to be asked.
What is the current thought on patch 4.2 going to the live server?
My money is June 14, before the midsummer holiday event begins.
loop_not_defined Jun 6th 2011 11:50AM
I spent all night reading the Encounter Journal entries yesterday. Really excited for that to get implemented. Also excited about the idea of it getting expanded in future patches, just to read the extra lore tidbits they throw in.
"The boss lady in Blackrock Caverns is an ex-Kirin Tor mage?
Ascendant Lord Obsidius was a Shaman??
Maloriak is some poor kidnapped alchemist transmuted with a...dragonkin *corpse*? Eww..."
It should also dispel a lot of the misunderstandings I've seen going around, like clearing up the confusion regarding Skywall and the air elementals' role in Uldum, and the true purpose of Halls of Origination. No more "where'd this dungeon come from? Why are we killing things there? Besides loot."
Amaxe Jun 6th 2011 12:09PM
Haven't they had these patches show up in the middle of holiday events before? I seem to recall it happening in the Love is in the Air event.
Noyou Jun 6th 2011 12:17PM
I put speculating on upcoming patches as fun to discuss as the NFL football draft ( kind of a hobby of mine) so go for it! I vote for smack dab in the middle of midsummer (seems like they love to drop patches during holiday events) if not then the 2nd week in July.
Tala Jun 6th 2011 5:33PM
Hmm, that's an interesting point.
4.2 seems to have new items for Brewfest and Hallow's End (MMOC post = http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/907466-Patch-4.2-PTR-Build-14133?highlight=hallow%27s)
Wowhead has level 85 (353 item level) Midsummer loot as already on live servers, though ( like the Frostscythe: http://www.wowhead.com/item=69771). Unless I'm looking at it wrong, it looks like the patch could, but doesn't need to come out before Midsummer's but does need to be out before Brewfest...
Arrohon Jun 6th 2011 6:37PM
4.0.3a (big dragon makes world go boom patch) was released during Pilgrims' Bounty.
bldavis59 Jun 6th 2011 11:26AM
i would also love to see some more story arches with some of the lesser played races
humans and dwarfs? most of EK
NElfs? alliance questing in Kalimador
worgen? cool starting zone and a few appearances and references to gilneas but nothing else really cept a BG
same thing with Dranei...we have thier starting zones, and not much else...
once you finish them, you get punted into either the Nelf chains, or the human/dwarf chains on EK
Gnomes? 1-5 starting zone and an instance....oh and some mention of thier orgins in Wrath
i love gnomes and their potential for anything!
goblins maybe also be engineering centric..but they are all about bigger boom! (not that that is bad! to quote mythbusters "Jaime want Big Boom")
but there is so much more potential with a gnomes tinkering with gadgets
Galestrom Jun 6th 2011 11:25AM
I'm going to go with Ogres and Tol'Vir.
Amaxe Jun 6th 2011 11:44AM
Dryads-Tol'vir or Centaur-Tol'vir is possible I suppose, though I am informed that the quadruped races are a non starter for Blizz models.
I think both sides would want the Tol'vir however, and I don't see them as choosing either side.
Centaur shouldn't be Horde given the animosity with the Tauren... though the Belf-Trolls have had a long past of mutual hatred and that didn't stop Blizz either. I don't see Centaur as being Alliance either... they are too barbaric to fit in with the Alliance mindset.
Dryads seem more like a neutral race devoted to nature, not to either faction.
loop_not_defined Jun 6th 2011 11:57AM
You actually sort of help the Centaur in Desolace and end up getting them to work together in the new Cataclysm quests. It still required bashing in a few skulls, though.
Amaxe Jun 6th 2011 12:11PM
Yeah, but it was a sort of two tribes making things miserable so let's try to weaken one.
Scooter Jun 6th 2011 11:25AM
A Third Faction....
Arakkoa, Naga, Centaurs, Pandarens, Murlocs! All of this in the undiscovered continent of Wow!
Arakkoa - Druids/Priests/Hunters/Warlocks
Naga - Warriors/Mages/Priests
Centaurs- Warriors/Hunters/Shaman
Pandarens - Warriors/Priests/ Monks!!!!
Murlocs - Paladin/Death Knights!
Scooter Jun 6th 2011 11:26AM
OH forgot Pygmies!
MattKrotzer Jun 6th 2011 11:34AM
I'd love to play a Pygmy, even if just for the helmets and the beards.
