I have already seen what.. a half dozen different star wars games fall on their face cause the game itself sucked and was nothing but a name.
I'm not expecting anything more from this game.

Apparently Gewalt has never playing the original KOTOR from Bioware which was amazing...much like Dragon Age. Thankfully Bioware isn't Cryptic.

Yep. A Star Wars game, by the guys who made KotOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, set roughly in the same universe as KotOR. I will buy it just for the story even if the gameplay sucks (which I truly doubt, but whatever).

I'm a bit dubious about SW:TOR as well. While the original single-player game was good for its time and Mass Effect etc. were solid games, I haven't seen anything to convince me that Bioware really knows what it's doing with an MMO. What they've been writing about while they've been developing kind of worries me - it seem a bit like they're trying to turn an MMO into something they're more comfortable dealing with (i.e. one of their single player games).
I think there's quite a good chance that they're going to end up with something which misses out on a lot of the fun "MMO" aspects of an MMORPG while at the same time being less satisfying than a single player RPG. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems like they're running away from the format a littlle too much, but not enough to make it interesting. Also, there's no way it can possibly live up to the level of hype a lot of people are placing on it. Which can't be good.
The one I'm personally looking forward to is Guild Wars 2. The developers for that one seem really to be trying new stuff and their enthusiasm for what they're doing reminds me a bit of Blizzard before it got massive.

I could probably answer most of your questions about SWTOR myself simply by making a quick trip either to the SWTOR website or the forums.
advantages SWTOR has over WoW:
- Story (where i ACTUALLLY care about the things I'm doing and the people I'm talking to)
-Game mechanics that encourage group content (have you tried grouping up to do quests? it's still easier to go it alone)
-Tanks being viable in PvP
-better designed pvp maps (their control point map is SOOOOO much better designed than AB it's not even funny)
-actually being able to level a tank or a healer
-more forgiving on player death (this is a big issue, the reason there's such a stigma within the community about wipes is that the penalty for death is a little too steep)
-very little grinding (most quests have bonus objectives that involve killing x number of y, but it's not required)
-Player dialog, and choices as well as Multiplayer dialog
-Dynamic combat: lightsabers clash, will actively deflect blaster bolts, when you parry an attack you ACTUALLY parry it, same with dodging.
-rewards players for exploring through holocrons, which give incremental stat bonuses to those who explore the environment.
those are just a few i can think of :D

-DO you REALLY think WOW death penalties are too steep? Really? A pitance of easily made gold is too steep? I hope you never played an MMO made before WOW
Most of your points make me think you haven't played WOW in a long time, leveling as a healer or tank for example, is easily these days.

"I haven't seen anything to convince me that Bioware really knows what it's doing with an MMO"
Firstly, MMO that is RPG. Bioware is THE best RPG developer in the industry.
Secondly at this time and age MMOs are no longer really experiments, secrets or unknown entities.
They know how to flow questing, story, make combat smooth looking, boss fights engaging. Balance might be somewhat issue but where in the world it wouldnt be?
Imagine people going 6 years ago: "I dont see Blizzard, RTS developer, really knowing what to do with MMO" and look what happened? You cant really go on saying that anymore now can you.

The death penalties are too steep, Rez sickness should be removed from the game and the durability damage should be lessened. I remember being in ICC25 slamming my head into a brick wall on heroic LK, wiping sometimes 15-20 times a night, each wipe costing me upwards of 50 gold. That's too steep of a price.
I played wow for 4 years from tbc all the way through cata (I quit in January). I leveled every tanking class in the game to 85, so i know a few things about leveling a tank. While leveling a tank got a lot better in Wrath, in cata it got really tedious from 80-85(which is a probably theory on why you don't see that many tanks at 85). Adding in the dungeon finder did help leveling healers a bit, it didn't fix the problem. Now, if your a healer, your ONLY option for leveling is either pvp or doing dungeons, you can't solo content at all, which is a BAD thing.
