Patch 4.2: Fandral's Flamescythe turns feral cats fiery

This is wonderful news for druids, as more customization is always welcome. Blizzard's design philosophy of You went to the Firelands and came out looking like the Firelands is in full swing. Feral druids went to the Firelands, looked Fandral Staghelm in the eyes, and left with a tangible reward -- a sweet new form. This also paves the way for other items to also change players' forms, much like Deathbringer's Will from Icecrown Citadel in Wrath.
The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs -- plus new Tier 12 armor!Filed under: Cataclysm

Fandral's Flamescythe, a drop from Majordomo Staghelm, will shift you into flame cat form when in cat form as long as it is equipped.
This is wonderful news for druids, as more customization is always welcome.

Hoping this gets uprated. I loooove the look of the flame cat, don't get me wrong, but in general, the cat forms look pretty darn sweet since they made the new models, especially the black tauren model. The bear forms.... could still use a bit of help. A flaming bear would definitely help :).

I don't have a druid anymore but I think a spirit bear would look cooler. Maybe for the boomkin some kind of celestial form. It's pretty cool blizzard is doing this for druids. I won't even whine that the druids already have the most artwork done on them in game. Crap I just did :P

This is why Blizzard is hesistant to give players nice things. You don't even have the flaming cat staff and you already want a flaming bear staff? I swear, give you an inch...

Does it only work if it's equipped, or just if it's in your inventory?
If it's the former, this isn't customization at all. There aren't a lot of options, and most people will drop this when a better functioning item comes out, just like they do any other piece of gear. If this were something you could hold onto, and there were other items like it later added, it might be, but atm, it's the same as wearing tier 2 at 85- you may like the look, but you're sacrificing function for it, which is going to get you removed from groups.

Wouldn't really make sense to turn you into a fire kitty if it was just in your bags, but that would be the true spirit of customization, if there was a way to get that benefit of the form change without the stat bonuses. I sure would like it for Deathbringer's will or, even better, the old ZG claw set.
You'll still look stylin' AFK in Stormwind or Orgrimmar with it on 5 tiers from now. And i do break out my ZG claws on trash now and then. Why can't the ferals do it for fun as well?
