Does it only work if it's equipped, or just if it's in your inventory?
If it's the former, this isn't customization at all. There aren't a lot of options, and most people will drop this when a better functioning item comes out, just like they do any other piece of gear. If this were something you could hold onto, and there were other items like it later added, it might be, but atm, it's the same as wearing tier 2 at 85- you may like the look, but you're sacrificing function for it, which is going to get you removed from groups.

"Fandral's Flamescythe, a drop from Majordomo Staghelm, will shift you into flame cat form when in cat form as long as it is equipped."
The whole article is only two small paragraphs.

Wouldn't really make sense to turn you into a fire kitty if it was just in your bags, but that would be the true spirit of customization, if there was a way to get that benefit of the form change without the stat bonuses. I sure would like it for Deathbringer's will or, even better, the old ZG claw set.
You'll still look stylin' AFK in Stormwind or Orgrimmar with it on 5 tiers from now. And i do break out my ZG claws on trash now and then. Why can't the ferals do it for fun as well?

Don't be silly. This is the same sort of visual customization via gear as every other class gets. No one else gets weapons that they can keep the visual effect from even after upgrading to a new weapon. They already gave you non-gear customization of feral forms when they introduced the new models and skins that are tied to your character's appearance.
That a feral druid never sees their equipped gear while in form is a common complaint. This item is *directly* addressing that complaint.

At first I agreed... I thought about arguing the point that it should be a glyph which dropped so we could inscribe it into our spellbooks and always have the option of being a fiery cat.
Then I thought, what if they don't want that? What if they don't want us to be able to use this permanently? I don't know why, mages get a billion Polymorph spells, but maybe cat form is different. Maybe they don't want it being the special snowflake that gets a permanent customization choice when bear, moonkin, travel and swim are left out in the cold (tree gets a permanent choice, so you can't mention that).
Plus I'd hate to see EVERYONE having a flaming kitty form in the next expansion because they're going back at 90 and farming Firelands solo.

Only in a way every other class has always gotten it, and tbh, I wouldn't consider most armor any form of customization. Gear in WoW only denotes power, which is why we don't have an appearance tab. Yes, you can wear gear for fun around the AH, but personally, I don't stand around town for fun. I do archy or get resources if I'm just chatting, or log off if I'm bored. Customization shouldn't mean being impractical.

Honestly, I don't know why den got downvoted for a valid opinion, and why pirate got upvoted.
This isn't any true form of customization or variety being added to the druid forms. So what the cat is fire now, but this isn't Old Spice where we can stay firecat. As soon as that item is unequipped you are boring old non-burning kitty. What Blizzard SHOULD of done was created a special glyph that could be dropped from Fandral, that allows you to go firecat, and leave it off the weapon itself.
THAT is true choice.

@devilsei - I think he got downvoted for asking a question about something that was directly stated in the article. Not reading is a downvote-able offense =P.

Your argument would hold more water if there was any precedent at all of giving druids new forms with each tier.
Let's be honest here. If you believe the official Blizzard blues line, their art department is incredibly understaffed and overworked. They're forever talking about how little, in the grand scheme of things for a game of WoW's supposed budget, they can add in terms of new artwork all the time. This is happening because of Fandral Staghelm. If he didn't appear as a feral druid, we would not be seeing this snazzy little item. And unless another feral druid appears in tier 13, we shouldn't expect to see another item along the same lines.

True saed, but at the same time that doesn't really nullify his point either, and was asked probably more because of curiosity of the forms relevance overall, instead of not reading the entirety of the article.

devilsei, I would agree with you if I could wear my Warrior's Merciless Gladiator set (Arena Season 2) while running current dungeons or raids. I cannot. I don't have a choice in the matter, nor does any other class.

So you equip the scythe when you want to run around as an awesome flaming cat, and then you equip your better weapon (once you get one) when it's time to break heads.
...I don't see why this is an issue.
