I'd like to see a talent somewhere fairly deep in the BM tree that allow's BM to generate good AOE without having to burn a B/Wrath. Maybe (dare I make the comparison) something akin to a "Swipe" ability that our soon-to-be-pet-feral-druids have. Ie. the talent would give the AOE to our pet - not us. Forget the nonsense of the Worm and Chimera AOE attacks, but a proper hard-hitting AOE talent for a BM hunter's pet would fit nicely. Survival has very good AOE, MM has the makings of good AOE with Bombardment, I'd like to see BM receive the same.
As for a BM hunter's level 10 special ability/talent - I'd really like to see that as Bestial Wrath. Its a vital cooldown that forms the foundation of BM hunting (in a raid) in my opinion. The sooner BM hunters get to use it and get familiar with it the better, I say.

Have you used the worm's burrow attack during rapid fire and B/W? I pulled 83k according to my guildie (a mage) who prides himself on his AoE damage. This was on BoT trash in our first time in the instace.

The problem is that we can't switch pets during a boss fight, forcing us to choose between damage (and a pet buff/debuff) and AoE. No other class is forced to sacrifice buffs and damage for a whole fight just so they can use their AoE.
I think we really do need some kind of pet-AoE hunter talent. Make it aggro-free if you don't want hunters to be AoE-tanking.
In the meantime, can we fix the Chimaera's AoE? It hits such a tiny area it's practically useless.

I did 104k dps on a zombie pack in ZG with BW + all cooldowns.. with a Devilsaur (no AoE attack). I honestly don't think it makes that big of a difference to have to pull a new pet.
But pulling a new pet is rarely an issue as long as you time it right so that he doesn't get one shot by aoe. I swap out my Devilsaur (sweet, sweet 5% crit) for my Corehound at the end of a fight if we need a bloodlust. It is too much of a dps loss to lose that crit buff for the entire fight so the 5 seconds of pet downtime is still worth it.
