Breakfast Topic: What's your favorite class?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
"Hunter." That's all I should have to say. Well, that and "dwarven hunter," because the only thing better than a hunter is a dwarven hunter. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with the proven fact that hunters are by far the best class in the game. Some people like to wear dresses and conjure brownies, while others like to sneak through the shadows pickpocketing the unsuspecting NPC.
I myself am a die-hard and loyal hunter. My very first class was a rogue that didn't last very long before I made a hunter and never looked back. The hunter is my class of choice for a number of different reasons. In real life, I'm a huge animal person, with multiple animals in the house. WoW is no exception. My stables are nearly full with a wide variety of pets. My favorite pets are named after my real-life pets that have since passed or the ones that like to lay on my feet while I raid. I like that I'm able to not only DPS but have my pet tank or even heal when in a pinch. Those reasons aside, my absolute favorite reason I love the hunter class is always having a pet by my side. After moving and being forced to leave my cat and dog with my mom, I found myself missing them even after I had gone to visit. I took my two favorite pets in the game and named them after my cat and dog. While I have since been reunited with my dog, she still follows me everywhere in game when my cat isn't.
If for some reason you don't agree with the science behind how awesome hunters are, what is your favorite class? What makes them appeal to you over the other classes in WoW?

Don't really have one. I played a rogue for 3 years, then a holy pally for a year and am now playing a mage. I enjoy them all for different reasons.

Drood, DK, Rogue, Priest, Hunter in that order.

Wait there are other classes than hunter?

I'm all about the Enhancement Shaman, though my first was a fire mage who dabbled into the arcane tree from time to time.
I just love the Idea of a Hybrid Melee fighter that could aid his blows with spells to great effectiveness, loved Eldritch Knights on D&D for the same reason.

I have to say Warriors are my favorite class. They're not sneaky or subtle. They don't attack from a safe distance, they don't even rely on magics or higher powers to protect them. They strap on the best armor they can find, pick up whatever's handy, and go toe-to-toe with the most dangerous things Azeroth can offer. They're the everyman, motivated to action by pure willpower, shaping Azeroth by the strength of their arm and the sharpness of their steel.
It would be hard to argue that Warriors aren't a hero class in the truest definition of the word.

I haven't played my warrior enough to *really* get to know the class, but I like playing her for pretty much the same reasons. There's something special about charging at an enemy, pummeling it into the ground, and living through it because you're strong and skilled enough to do so. ^_^
Also: just wanted to let you know that I didn't take what you said in yesterday's breakfast topic (about not understanding my post) as an attack at all, despite what someone else said. So no worries there.
MattKrotzer Jun 10th 2011 8:29AM
No worries, Mused. You've always got good things to say, even if your POV is drastically different than mine (like yesterday). I'm just getting tired of people taking shots at me on here, just because they recognize my name from being an active poster.

Well I think your wrong Matt if you knew anything about wow you would know that.
Ohh and your father was a hamster and father smelled of elderberries.

Altoholic here, but I just started a warrior very recently. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time, as my main all these years has been a bear druid. I love the individuality of every class. For the warrior, it is being the stalwart protector of my allies in pve. In pvp it is rushing headfirst into battle having already accepted your eventual death, but having the resolve to inflict as much possible damage before you fall.
Natsumi Jun 10th 2011 9:23AM
Agree with Matt.
Warriors are clearly the superior class, they don't rely on anything other than themselves.
Hunters rely on pets.
Mages, Warlocks, Druids, Priests, Paladins, and Shaman rely on magic to do their things.
Death Knights rely on the dark powers granted them by the Lich King.
Rogues rely on dirty tricks and poison.
Even Feral Druids rely on their forms.

Matt, I honestly don't think people take shots at you because you're an active poster. There are plenty of active posters that don't garner the same kind of attention. *shrug*

@ Natsumi
Warriors rely on their pointy weapon and bulky armor no? If you argue that a heroic class is someone that relies on nothing besides their innate ability, then perhaps a monk is the only REAL hero class?
MattKrotzer Jun 10th 2011 9:58AM
Monks use Chi power.
And they're not a playable class in WoW.

Titans grip has got to be one of the coolest things about a warrior...for me anyway. My undead warrior looks so awesome with a two-handed weapon in EACH hand. Dynamic tanking toolset aside, Titans grip is what keeps my warrior at the top of my favorites list.

I knew my main was going to be a Warrior before I even picked up the box. Over six years later, that hasn't changed.
...not that I don't have any alts or anything. :X
PKthe13thvah Jun 10th 2011 4:04PM
I also like that warriors can create waves of force by stomping their feet and regenerate half their health simply because of /just how pissed they are./
Karcharos Jun 10th 2011 6:56PM
Another vote for sword, board and rage. Although Cata's re-tree-ing changed this, there was something resonant about a class that had no threat dump, minimal self-healing, no back up and no less than 2 moves whose only purpose was to get you into the big bad's jaws of crunching death *faster*.
You picked your battles. You killed or you died. And you went through a hell of a lot of bandaids.
MusedMoose Jun 10th 2011 8:11AM
For me, it's actually a toss-up between hunters and mages. I honestly don't know what it is about mages that makes me love them so much, but I have three of them, one for each spec, and my fire mage just hit 85 last night. The class is always fun to play, no matter what the spec. Teleporting makes getting around the world easy, and there's something awesome about knowing that if you truly get in trouble, you can call on three of yourself to save your own ass.
As for hunters, I only have two, but I know why I like them so much: the pets. ^_^ Call me crazy, but there's something about having an animal companion at your side all the time that just plain makes the class feel awesome. My Alliance-side hunter is 85, and all his pets except one are named after houses from George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series - I have a lion named Lannister, a winged serpent named Targaryen, and so on. I tamed Chromaggus just so I could name the pet Clegane.
...his wolf is named Holo, but anyone who recognizes why will understand.

Ya know, you should try a warlock.... sounds like it'd be a pretty good match for you
