Breakfast Topic: What's your favorite class?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
"Hunter." That's all I should have to say. Well, that and "dwarven hunter," because the only thing better than a hunter is a dwarven hunter. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with the proven fact that hunters are by far the best class in the game. Some people like to wear dresses and conjure brownies, while others like to sneak through the shadows pickpocketing the unsuspecting NPC.
I myself am a die-hard and loyal hunter. My very first class was a rogue that didn't last very long before I made a hunter and never looked back. The hunter is my class of choice for a number of different reasons. In real life, I'm a huge animal person, with multiple animals in the house. WoW is no exception. My stables are nearly full with a wide variety of pets. My favorite pets are named after my real-life pets that have since passed or the ones that like to lay on my feet while I raid. I like that I'm able to not only DPS but have my pet tank or even heal when in a pinch. Those reasons aside, my absolute favorite reason I love the hunter class is always having a pet by my side. After moving and being forced to leave my cat and dog with my mom, I found myself missing them even after I had gone to visit. I took my two favorite pets in the game and named them after my cat and dog. While I have since been reunited with my dog, she still follows me everywhere in game when my cat isn't.
If for some reason you don't agree with the science behind how awesome hunters are, what is your favorite class? What makes them appeal to you over the other classes in WoW?

Druids are the best! They can do it all: heal, tank, melee DPS, and ranged DPS. They can stealth, they can swim faster than anyone else and out of combat they don't need to breathe under water; and their flight form is *instant*! Oh, and they can herb and loot without even changing out of flight form.

A druid is just a respec away from being better at your job than you are.

From a flavor/lore perspective, I adore warlocks and death knights. Nothing makes me happier than a bad dude trying to do the right thing.
Alternatively, I enjoy the mechanics of the more physically oriented classes, particularly the warrior and rogue. There's a certain level of aggression baked into their play style that I really like. Other classes feel very passive or reactive, but when barreling down on your foe in plate with a greatsword (or giggling sinisterly from the shadows as you prepare to ruin their day) you really feel like you're in charge (pun intended) of the fight.

Definitely the mage class! We get to port ourselves and others around, make cake, go invisible, freeze things, slow things, AOE, pew pew pew things down before they reach us, Time Warp, setting my HS wherever I want, even tank things for ourselves with our mirror images, slowfall, mount and throw ourselves off cliffs. I miss being able to do all these things when I play a different class. So far no other class has been as much fun :)
I feel safe on my mage and prepared for any situation I might come across plus I get to help other people by porting them about all day ;)

/agreed, for all those reasons. mages have spoiled me for all other classes. plus, our archmage is awesome. : )
Namy Jun 10th 2011 10:29AM
He is indeed! Though I don't think he'd approve of me not mentioning warlocks in there somewhere, ummm.....
'mages are also awesome at killing warlocks in a variety of fun and interesting ways!'
Phew, that should do it :P

Mages are simply awesome because of what they can do during a boss fight with a little experimentation. Major stuns that other classes have to sit through? Blink. Debuff or threat mechanic that most other classes have to deal with? Ice Block/Invisibility. Mages simply have so many ways to cheese encounters like Putricide (force green ooze to select other target, invisible out of the phase-change stuns), Omnotron (cancel Acquiring Target Fire Laser thing), Twin Dragons (cancel Blackout), and Al'Akir (drop off that stacking nature damage debuff).
Not only that, our utility is quite helpful on the current bosses, with Ring of Frost helping on Magmaw and Nefarian's adds, Mirror Images eating up Chimaeron's hits on the last phase, and Slow Fall making any fall damage zero, such as with Ascendant Council.
Oh, and there's the damage. But honestly, even if other classes do more damage, I'd love playing my mage more due to all of the stuff I can do to cheese encounters.

Meh. I've never liked playing pet classes, hunters in particular. I avoid them in any game that I'm playing.
I used to think that mage was my favorite class, but I've really been enjoying leveling paladins recently.

ALL!!!! Whats the fun to get stuck with just one for years!?
IM currently working on my 4th char and i pretend to have them all 85!
Noyou Jun 10th 2011 1:02PM
I think you mean 'intend' instead of 'pretend' unless you are on a RP server ;)
I totally agree with you. My 'main' is a prot/holy paladin I play 5-10 min a day to get my JC daily done. He was my first toon to 80 and my first to 85. He never wore silly heirloom gear (I say silly from his perspective- I love heirlooms) but there is no way I could say the paladin is my favorite. I can't say any one class is my favorite. No way. Besides I'm just getting into leveling my Disc priest. So far one of the most fun classes I have leveled (I have said that after many reached 85. Each class has it's pluses and minuses. Many times I am left saying "I wish I was on my _____". If only I had X ability. etc. etc. Been spending a lot of time on my mage lately and I can say I'm getting pretty good at PvPing with him (for a KB turner :p)

I love me drood. Was a tauren restokin in BC, a kittycat in LK, and is now a big bad trollkin (although probably less bad when 4.2 nerf hits). I just love it's versatility in playing style and, of course, the easyness to recognize a drood from afar when all other classes increasingly look more or less the same.
Izzak Jun 10th 2011 8:47AM
druids! Shapeshifting is just awsome... ever spoted an enemy 85 player while flying and then switching to cat in mid air, landing in prowl ready to pounce to your unsuspecting target?
or dashed into a group of mobs to switch to bear and take them all down!
also many druids will agree... insta flight form and barskin make the druid class!

Druid and paladin are my two favorite classes, with warriors being up there too.
My two favorite things to do in game are healing and melee dps. I especially love healing. My first toon was my druid, and I knew I wanted to heal on her even before I really understood what healing was all about. I have 3 of the 4 healing classes at max level, and I'm working on bring up a shaman now, using DF to level her.
Out of those healing classes, druid is far and away my favorite. I love the feel of HoTs and I love being able to do a lot of my healing on the run. Plus, as a person who grew up in the woods, I just like the overall flavor of the druid class. I like the idea of working with nature to heal my allies. I like that our spell animations are all green and leafy too.
It's not surprising that my off spec for my druid is kitty, as my second favorite thing to do is melee dps. My pally will always be my first choice if I'm DPSing, but I've found I really really enjoy fury as well. However, there's some utility stuff about paladins that I just really love, and that, along with the lore of the Blood Knights, will probably always keep them as my favorite class to DPS on. I don't even mind paladin healing as much as I did during Wrath, I'm just not particularly good at it. And I like the feel of prot, so if I ever work up the nerve to tank, it will be on a pally.
Really, I need a class that will allow me to punch people in the face to heal them. I imagine I'll be really happy then. ;)

Mine doesn't really exist in the game: Vindicator.
I'm not big on belf, tauren or human/dwarf paladin lore wise, but draenei paladin? Love 'em. Love them to the point I've done primary docs for Vindicator, Exarch, Templar and Prophet classes, 85 levels worth of skill, lore-quest development and talents, plus glyphs and tier themes. Thankfully the paladin class is pretty fun, so it works well enough.
Close second is rogue and warrior, for mobility - not a lot beats warbringer... Actually, as a talent, I can't think of a better one, for any class, in the history of wow. Guarded by the light at the end of LK was pretty cool, but still no where near warbringer in terms of sheer fun factor.

A fellow hunter fan says 'Hi!' I was so happy when undead hunters were announced. My hunter, 'Rottenshots' only tames spiders, infected/undead animals, and bats. I'm loving it.
I did finally roll a dwarf hunter and will be spending time on him soon.
I still love running around on my 85 orc hunter.
Second favorite class is mage. Although I was sad to hear fire has taken a dps hit. I love being able to set mobs on fire at level 1.
Pantro Jun 10th 2011 8:56AM
Hmm... I personally prefer druids and paladins, especially druids since I can easily change between being a dps, tank or healer ( okay tanking I prefer more with my pala =p)
Anyway I'm an altholic so I quite change often from which class I love to play xD
TJ Jun 10th 2011 8:58AM
Lock followed by (Gnome) Mage. (I am sure I am asking for it by listing that combo.)
sezen Jun 10th 2011 8:58AM
my shadow priest will always be my favorite. it's been my class/spec of choice since vanilla, through the time when i just was a mana battery for the healers, and now that i actually melt face pretty solidly on my own.
thinkuknowme Jun 10th 2011 8:59AM
Troll Hunter. First and only main.
Necromann Jun 10th 2011 9:00AM
I have one of each class (although at different levels). And my favorite class is my priest. My warrior tank is also very fun.
