Breakfast Topic: What's your favorite class?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
"Hunter." That's all I should have to say. Well, that and "dwarven hunter," because the only thing better than a hunter is a dwarven hunter. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with the proven fact that hunters are by far the best class in the game. Some people like to wear dresses and conjure brownies, while others like to sneak through the shadows pickpocketing the unsuspecting NPC.
I myself am a die-hard and loyal hunter. My very first class was a rogue that didn't last very long before I made a hunter and never looked back. The hunter is my class of choice for a number of different reasons. In real life, I'm a huge animal person, with multiple animals in the house. WoW is no exception. My stables are nearly full with a wide variety of pets. My favorite pets are named after my real-life pets that have since passed or the ones that like to lay on my feet while I raid. I like that I'm able to not only DPS but have my pet tank or even heal when in a pinch. Those reasons aside, my absolute favorite reason I love the hunter class is always having a pet by my side. After moving and being forced to leave my cat and dog with my mom, I found myself missing them even after I had gone to visit. I took my two favorite pets in the game and named them after my cat and dog. While I have since been reunited with my dog, she still follows me everywhere in game when my cat isn't.
If for some reason you don't agree with the science behind how awesome hunters are, what is your favorite class? What makes them appeal to you over the other classes in WoW?

My Priest is my all time favorite character. Not as a Shadow spec, but for healing.
In some ways, the Priest is like MattKrozer's description of the warrior. Priests go out there in flimsy cloth, not plate armor. They can't change into a more durable form, and aren't standing behind totems. They don't have a connection to fel power, or the Twisting Nether, and can't vanish to sneak away from danger. All they have are their prayers to the Light.
Plus, they're challenging and exciting to play. There is no "rotation" because every spell is for a different situation. I have other healing classes at max level, but the Priest's versatility is something no other healing class has.

It depends of the content.
My main has always been a (Holy) Paladin (sometimes prot sometimes retri).
But for questing I LOVE my rogue.
I think the most overall fun can be had with a rogue whatever the level.
Goal: doing the quests with the less killing of mobs possible. Sneaking, lore reading, challenge taking up to 7 or 8 times higher mobs etc ...
Also the BG's are extremely fun with a rogue even if not geared right.
Calicia Jun 10th 2011 10:25AM
I'm a dedicated rogue player. My first and only main.
It started because I like the idea of being able to solo quest and sneak around. I still enjoy walking into a level appropriate dungeon like GB to pick pockets or perhaps just lurk around an enemy capital. Now that I raid, I'm sticking with the rogue out of stubbornness and an affinity for being the underdog.

@Andrew Ross: How much did Frost pay you to write this? ;-)
As for me? Priests. And a close second, Warriors, and that's BECAUSE they're so different. After the subtlety of casting all different kinds of spells, I just love charging right into mobs and hitting them in the face.
Halvan Jun 10th 2011 9:30AM
Halvan is a Frost Death Knight, and my main for Cataclysm. I've flirted with running as an Enhancement Shaman, Mage, and Ret Paladin for short periods of time, but I always come back to my DK. It may be a roller coaster on the charts, but I can't find a spec that I enjoy quite as much as Frost. I've had people berate me in pugs for playing a FotM spec, but I was playing Frost back when Unholy was top dawg, just because I enjoyed it more. I usually destroy their numbers anyway, so I don't really care about their opinion anyway.
Revnah Jun 10th 2011 12:47PM
Don't you just hate it when people assume things about you? I have a fire mage alt who's been a fire mage since forever - because I just happen to love frying things - but whenever the spec is top I get accused of the FotM thing. Grrr.

Night Elf Druid.
Why night elf? I love the lush beauty and vibrant colors of the elven zones. The simple elegance of their architecture. The kind and pensive demeanor of the people. The rich lore of the race - from the fall of the Highborne, through the restructuring of their society, to the struggles of lost immortality. The seclusion and peacefulness of all things night elf.
Why druid? The rich lore of the class. Shapeshifting and fighting as something different. Being able to fly as a bird. Herbing is actually fun when you're a bird! Being able to fulfill any role in the game. The challenge of maximizing their full potential. And of course boomkin dance!
Why my night elf druid will always be my main? I have a ton of alts, but none feel like the druid. She was my first character and I have experienced all the newness through her eyes and that makes her feel like more my true avatar in Azeroth than any other.

Even if they're not playable, the pure caster-oriented Necromancers will forever remain my favorite class in the game.
My love for Necromancers began with I saw the introduction of Kel'Thuzad to Arthas's story in Warcraft 3. Seeing this frail, long-bearded dark wizard going toe-to-toe with this Paladin who kept screaming for vengeance against the chaos he was unleashing was a wondrous story to follow. It only got better as Kel'Thuzad's loyalty to the Lich King became more apparent, and from then on I held a sort of respect for the guy that no one else can really hold for me. Through Kel'Thuzad, I came to admire his power and skill-set.
There's a certain beauty and fun to the plague--this element of mystery and wonder and slow, decaying corrupting destruction that no fireball, shadow-bolt, or mind-flay can really come close to.
And, of course, an army of obedient zombies. I mean, come on. What's not to love?
Nawaf Jun 10th 2011 9:48AM
I love Death Knights. Whether it's the feel of being a "Dark Knight" or the gameplay mechanics, I never get bored of em. I love managing 4 resources instead of 1, and I love how these 4 resources are endless. I love their badassery, I love their ghoul, I love shield-less tanking...
I also loved the 6 specs in Wrath. Blood DPS, Frost DW tanking, those were the days.

My favorite class has definitely got to be Hunter. The first character I made was a Paladin during my trial session, but after I actually got the game, I made a Hunter and it's been my main ever since. I love the class because of our ability to tame pets and because we are masters at both extreme soloing and pet tanking.
jp Jun 10th 2011 10:21AM
Vanilla Druid.
BC Hunter
LK Pallie
Cata I have yet to find it but Mage is really fun so far.
Adrianne Jun 10th 2011 10:26AM
I started playing as a hunter, and stuck with her for quite a while. Then I made a mage, and that was my main for a year or so. After that came a paladin. Then I rolled my priest. I fell in love. I have made other characters since (a druid and death knight) and gotten my other toons to 85. My priest is still my favorite, hands down. I like the animations and spells. I like being able to heal or dps. I like the bubbles and life grip. I just have fun with her all the way around. Since the game is about having fun, I imagine that no matter what changes are made to the priest class, she will always be my main.
micbobpoo Jun 10th 2011 10:35AM
Hunter, DK, Mage, Druid but mostly hunters =)
Idaelus Jun 10th 2011 11:01AM
5+ years in and my only 85 is my Paladin.
robincurts Jun 10th 2011 10:55AM
No one said warlock :)
Priest would be my favorite.
Grovinofdarkhour Jun 10th 2011 10:54AM
Over the long term? Absolutely, definitely hunter, no question.
But in the short term, my 48 tauren warrior just picked up an arms spec for the first time ever, and quite frankly... it's intoxicating.
Vitos Jun 10th 2011 11:01AM
"or the ones that like to lay on my feet while I raid."
There's a pretty big typo in there. I think it should read:
"or the ones that like to lay on my keyboard while I raid."
Therinor Jun 10th 2011 11:01AM
I didnt write anything regarding to the lore-side, but since I'm a huge fan of lore, I enjoy classes because of that too, I just wish there were more resources on class-lore.
As a mage, I loved Dalaran, its design and I still feel home there, like "OK, this is our city, our mage-HQ".
Druids... as I said, I love aspects of every class, and druids have some killer-lore... reading the WotA-stories, that "conflict" between magery and the newly found druidism, and their different approaches... great stuff.
I love how mages and warlocks are more "forceful", forcing fire/fel magic/ice etc to do their bidding, while druids and shamans are more respectful... they can still unleash amazing powers, but they do so in cooperation with nature, they ASK. I loved what Malfurion did to that felhunter in the WotA-trilogy...who would have thought you can use leafs that way? =)
There isnt much lore related to rogues, but of course, for pretty much all classes, there are great "archetypes" who are powerful examples of that glass, whether its Garona for rogues or Anduin for warriors or Turalyon/Uther for pallies.
Love the pally-lore... the catastrophies that the pallies went through because of Arthas, the fact that the LK used to be one, the corruption of the Scarlet Crusade... so when it comes to lore, pallies have great stories
Anyway, just wanted to add that, because the lore, to me, does matter, and I love how others point out that it means something to them and their class too. Sorry for the long post =)

I love paladins. I love being virtually unkillable, I love being able to hit everything around me, I love being able to heal or revive weaker comrades on a pinch, I love the lore about paladins, and I love the mix of fighting and magic inherent in the class. I love everything about paladins!
Second favorite is Druids.
Maribel Jun 10th 2011 3:56PM
YES finally someone else chimes in for paladins. I rolled mine the day BC launched and she's been my main ever since. I love the versatility, I love how hard I am to kill, I love the lore and the general feel of the class. I loved it when they added additional ways to hit things in the face (or knees) with my shield. I love being powered by righteous anger and killing things with JUSTICE. I like ret too, and I recently rolled a new holy pali and that's great as well. I don't care about the faceroll or flavor-of-the-month reputation. I'll love this class no matter how much they nerf it.
