Thank you Christian for pointing out the scaling which justifies the small nerf in 4.2; it settled my one nagging uncertainty. Overall I love the place arcane mages are at right now. It is a lot of fun to play and I definitely feel like it is up to me to either succeed or fail. Regarding mobility, I do better as arcane (anticipate, blink&run, back to business). In terms of damage taken and overall damage done skillful arcane mages seem to do quite well on movement intensive fights in the casual raiding segment (Rohash, Ascendant Council). I avoid Arcane Explosion though because it stresses healers and tanks; this makes me wish I had a better option than baseline Blizzard. Even with that weakness my 4.1 arcane mage is one of the most fun experiences I have had in WoW after 6.5 years.
