The Queue: Shameless theft

This time, it's a stolen Raid Rx header. Have I no shame? Is there no article safe from my header theft? The answer is yes -- I won't steal anything with a variation of deathwingsez.jpg.

Question: Do you think that Blizz might ever introduce a customised title? For example say my character name was Chlorr: Chlorr of the Mask? It would obviously need certain restrictions, but do you think it might be done eventually? It seems like something that would fit in to the Blizzard store quite well (like the mounts and pets you can buy)
I think it's pretty unlikely, personally, given that titles are intended (to reiterate what I said yesterday about armor sets) to be a prestige marker. It would also open up a whole new set of problems for Blizzard CS, who'd need to monitor whatever dumb crap people put in their custom title. Names are already hard enough to keep track of. Now they'd need to look out for level 85 worgen death knights named "Wakeupsheeple, Akkktibli$$ard Sucks" too.
Vacasta asked:
What's the deal with that WoW themed themepark in China, Joyland, that's under construction? Is that an official Blizzard project, or are they getting their intellectual property ripped off? Have they made any comment on it? Possible Blizzcon announcement, maybe?
China's copyright laws aren't very stringent, and in this case the theme park in question is definitely being operated without consent from Blizzard.
rniemritz asked:
Any chance that blizz is going to reduce the cap for members in a guild? I started a new guild up about a month ago and recruiting is a huge pain. Only 12 active members to this point. You always get asked "What level guild?" Nobody want to join a lvl 1 guild. Maybe if blizz reduced the amount of members you can have in a guild to lets say...500, that might help the new guilds recruit. Either that or give the new guild a perk for people to join.
Pretty much not a chance at this point. Blizzard actually just raised the maximum number of visible members in a guild (up from the 500 that it used to be) for this expansion. They may change how guild progression works, but they won't shrink the number of members a guild can have in it.
Udderpowered asked:
If Darnassus and the tree it's on are both new things, where did most Nelves live before? Did they not have a capital?
Ostensibly, a lot of them used to live in Hyjal and in other nelfy-lookin' areas of Kalimdor prior to all of the problems they had in the Third War. Rather than live in terrible corrupted and/or destroyed areas after that, most of them live in Darnassus now.

I played City of Heroes in the past and loved their "side kick" system. Do you think Blizzard could learn from them and create a system that allows lower level toons to team up with higher and still get XP?
For those not familiar with side kick, it raises the level of the lower toon to just under the higher, you get the state increase but no other additions.
Noyou Jun 12th 2011 12:18PM
Blizzard talked about something like that right before or shortly after Cata launched. It was supposed to scale the higher level player down to match the lower level toon so they could quest together without penalty. No clue what has happened to that idea yet. Probably in the same category as the Dance Studio and upgrade to older races. (including racials)

When Blizzard talked about the idea Noyou mentioned, they said that Heirlooms and ability scaling (power determined by level instead of ability ranks) were steps towards allowing players to scale down. So hopefully we'll see something soon - like this expansion - but who knows.

With how things are going, this will be a premium paid feature for people who are better than the rest of us.
Noyou Jun 12th 2011 4:33PM
@mister
Ya because Blizzard makes us pay extra for so many things right now? /sarcasm off.
Chris Jun 12th 2011 5:38PM
The only reason to implement a scaling system where high level players can temporarily match a low level character, or the other way around, is when there is a population issue within the game and there are few other choices in getting enough players to competently level with. I don't see a population issue in WoW anytime soon.
loop_not_defined Jun 12th 2011 7:03PM
Chris, the primary point of the system is so that friends can play together. Level differences literally lock you out from being able to play dungeons together.

...er, the LFD, that is.

Just roll a Hunter.
brettilavallee Jun 12th 2011 12:13PM
Just wondering, Has anyone ever used the /roll command to play
Dungeons And Dragons in-game? Seems like a pretty neat idea to me.
Noyou Jun 12th 2011 12:19PM
Yeah. Unfortunately the mobs didn't think much of it :P
FlameFlash Jun 12th 2011 1:50PM
It's great to use in a fully RP environ but otherwise doesn't work well.
Haro Jun 12th 2011 7:11PM
You can always RP your wow characters to be playing a D&D session!

All I can think of is this.
"I once walked into Silvermoon, where a group of roleplaying Sindorei were screaming and running around in panic. I stopped one and asked, "What's going on?" The Sindorei roleplayed turning around and pointing to the distances, where an orc was slowly approaching. I then got the fateful whisper, "it's a stand in for Godzilla." In the time it took me a moment to process what the blood elf had just told me, the orc came nearby and emoted that he "breathes nuclear fire over the Silvermoon protectors."

In 4.2 we see Malfurion getting all buddy-buddy with Thrall and playing Yoda to Thrall's Skywalker. We see druids who think the night elves should be actually taking the fight to the Horde in Ashenvale turned into disposable mooks for Ragnaros. Is there any bloody chance we'll ever actually see the Night Elves kick butt and take names like they did in WC3?
Katarinea Jun 12th 2011 12:34PM
Hopefully. However, it's rather hard right now -- think about the massive losses Hyjal incurred on the night elves. About 80-85% of night elf women were Sentinels, and probably about 50% of the men were druids. There's no exact numbers, obviously, but a lot of night elves died on Hyjal to save the world, and now the orcs are taking advantage of that. Thanks, Garrosh. Glad to know you appreciate it. This explains why they haven't been pushing back, and it also explains how most of the night elf population can fit in Darnassus. Yeah, Teldrassil's a big tree, but they lived in over half of Kalimdor before stuff got messed up, and there were even more before the Sundering. A -lot- of night elves are gone.
Arturis Jun 12th 2011 1:32PM
Its a little known fact that Night Elf females used to honor their fallen Sentinel sisters by stripping themselves of their armor (to show humility and vulnerability) and dancing upon mailboxes (as a symbol of communicating with those out of reach). However, they soon gave up the practice because they grew tired of being pelted with coins.
loop_not_defined Jun 12th 2011 3:16PM
I haven't seen Ashenvale from the Alliance side yet (although hopefully soon), but on the Horde side, you're defending against Night Elf attacks straight from the beginning. Mor'shan Rampart, Splintertree Post, and Warsong Lumber Camp are all actively under assault, although I think it's assumed that you successfully push them back during the quests. Splintertree Post has you using demonic magic (specifically Burning Legion...although you don't find out 'til later) to push back a very heavy Night Elf attack. The theme seems to be "winning, but at what cost?"
From what I've read, it sounds like there aren't any quests that have you actually assault Horde. Is that right?
mingdi9 Jun 12th 2011 3:44PM
@Katarinea
It seems a little unfair to me to not acknowledge the other people at Mt. Hyjal. Yeah, a lot of night elves died at Mt. Hyjal, but so did a lot of humans and orcs. They were there too. In fact, bringing humans and orcs together with the night elves to fight the Burning Legion was the *whole point* of Warcraft 3.
