Breakfast Topic: The perfect item

I purchased the item, not even thinking twice. It was a shield upgrade for my protection paladin. Nothing was unusual about the purchase, I didn't even blink. It was clear that it was the biggest upgrade I could afford at the justice point vendor. Then something amazing happened:
I equipped the shield.
Never in my WoW experience had I seen such a perfect item. It's hard to explain other than just saying that it was perfect for my protection paladin. Through BC and Wrath, I played the typical AOE protection play style, and now I get a shield with forward-facing spikes. Not only that, but it's a generally plain, silver shield, which fits perfectly with how I have always pictured ideal paladin armor to look. I'm not embarrassed to say that I spent several minutes moving my camera and character around, just looking at the glorious textures of the shield from different angles while on my back and equipped on my left arm.
I don't even roleplay, but once in a while, I find that something just fits with my toon so perfectly, that I must get it.
Have you ever come across a piece of gear, a mount, or a pet that just so perfectly represented your character that you needed it? Or maybe it was a title, or even a novelty item, that you weren't aware of before, but upon seeing it, nothing could stop you from acquiring it, equipping it, or dare I say, loving it?
The Shield of the Four Grey Towers was one of those items for me, and even though it's since been replaced, it will always be remembered as the proper shield for my paladin.

Shields are often a great "feel" piece. I have doubts we'll ever again see a shield more epic than the Royal Crest of Lordaeron. Even after 2 expansions worth of raiding, I've yet to find a shield that felt more appropriately awesome than that for my Protection Warrior.

Oh, but the Bulwark on Azzinoth on a Tauren warrior........never has a character looked more capable of holding back endless hordes of enemies and protecting his allies than a Tauren warrior wielding the Bulwark.

Despite numerous runs through Black Temple, I still don't have a Bulwark... It saddens me.

I have kept my Royal Crest of Lordaeron for my 'city gear'. When my main returns to Stormwind for any time at all he removes his heavy armor from the waist up and throws on his Ironforge Doublet and his Royal Crest of Lordaeron

When my main, a holy priest, had both Whitemane's Chapeau and Robe of Doan at the same time, it was incredible. I didn't want to take those clothes off, and I held on to them for a while and wore them as a set of "city clothes" like memr0yburn does.
This was back at the beginning of WotLK, and I have a couple of friends who still make fun of me for it.

My priest still has her full tier 1 set and Benediction that she tosses on when hanging around in Orgrimmar. That combination just always seemed like the penultimate look for a priest.

I think I still have the Crest of Lordaeron in my pallies bank. I must go check! It was one of the finer shields in my opinion as well :)

Best shield, hands down. My little Silver Hand styled paladin chick carries hers always when not in combat and needing her PVE one. The first time I saw it the lust started, until it FINALLY dropped and was in her hands at last.
Love!

I'm going to have to agree with Straz.
My main is a Male Troll Holy Priest, and I just LOVE the look of the Prophesy set with Benediction across my back. I've got some random green-named white cape (with black and gold trim) that I throw on with the armor for the complete look.

I dunno. There's just something about the Draconian Deflector out of BWL that I love in a sheild. It's one of my favourite graphics and I'm sad Blizzard won't recolour it and re-release it off of other dragon bosses.

I am a very, very weird prot pali - I want to assemble full T5 and get the Aldori Legacy Defender. The Four Grey Towers and all others with the model are really striking, the Royal Crest is gorgeous, the Force Reactive Disk is perfect for an engineer, Red Dragonscale Protector is just amazing, but my heart belongs with the ALD.
My paladin's a draenei, if that helps explain it at all.

The royal crest, Crusaders Glory and Wrynn's armor set just looked "Knight" to me, so my warrior still has them. It'd probably more more "suitable" if I was a human, but my gnome looks fine in them also. :)
Though, really, the Peacekeeper Blade is also just damn cool looking. :)

When I found out about the disgusting oozeling aura (makes you green!), I immediately started farming it for my warlock. Three days and a bazillion dead slimes later, I held it in my hands and it never left my side for the last three and a half years. I just HAD to have it.

Finding something that perfectly fits your character is indeed a joy. ^_^ For my main characters, it's unfortunately stuff that they haven't managed to get yet for various reasons.
For my engineering fire mage, the perfect mount will be the Flameward Hippogryph (http://ptr.wowhead.com/item=69213) that's coming with patch 4.2. Her preference for mounts is that they have to be mechanical and/or on fire, so between this and the Mekgineer's Chopper, she'll be getting around in style. (I like the flying machine, but damn, it's noisy.)
For my hunter, his perfect mounts are the Raven Lord and the Time-Lost Proto-Drake, because those are both mounts you get by defeating the creature itself. It's about as close as he'll ever get to actually taming a mount. Sadly, he's not gotten either yet. -_- But getting the Winterspring cat mount was very cool for him; raising a wild animal to be a faithful companion that lets you ride on it is awesome.

Agreed. Working on the spectral steed from Baradin Wardens for my frost mage. Green proto drake for my DK. Not so attached to gear as it is too soon replaced. But mounts on the other hand- I like picking out for my toons and using them exclusively on only one. Which is no small task when you have as many as I do ;)

You get to "tame" Aeonaxx. If you can find him. XD
Dire Jun 13th 2011 8:12AM
Still trying to get the Frostwyrm for my Undead Warrior...it's just such a must have...but you still need a lot of ppl to obtain it...and then everything has to work out...blabla...sucks...if that mount cost 20k gold I'd buy it...hell if it cost real currency I'd buy it...which I don't do usually...
WildHarp Jun 13th 2011 8:14AM
I spent more gold than was reasonable on my levelling Priest to get her the Brightwood Staff, an epic for level 49+ that used to sometimes drop in Blackrock Depths. I saw it on the AH, clicked to see what it would look like equipped, and it was just SO perfect for her that money, or the fact that she'd replace it by level 55, suddenly wasn't an issue anymore :-)
She's 85 now and raiding but I still have that staff in the bank.

I have to say, the tier 11 druid shoulders were like this for me. They were just so... awesome... that I wanted to have them... a lot. Seeing as I don't currently raid, I ended up dropping... well, a lot of gold on the off-set BoE versions - not because they were better (because frankly, they were itemized worse for me than the 346 shoulders I had) but because they're just so... pretty. Everytime I play my druid, a small part of me is going "I LOVE my shoulders..." the entire time.
Saeadame Jun 13th 2011 8:21AM
Oh, and this may be obvious, but Benediction is the quintessential Priest weapon, and it will always be the pinnacle of Priestliness in my eyes.
