The Classifieds: 7th Annual Proudmoore Pride Parade

June is typically designated Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Pride Month, and for the seventh consecutive year, the celebration is spilling over into Azeroth on the Proudmoore server.
World of Warcraft's two largest GLBT-friendly guilds The Spreading Taint (Proudmoore [US-H]) and The Stonewall Family (Proudmoore [US-A]) are co-sponsoring the Seventh Annual Proudmoore Pride Parade. Festivities start Saturday, June 25th at noon server (PDT). Horde players will meet at Mor'shan Rampart in the Northern Barrens to begin the parade; Alliance players will stage at Astranaar in Ashenvale. Both factions will then meet up at the gates of The Barrens and march together to Ratchet to board ships for the Booty Bay "after party."
Players from all realms are encouraged to roll an alt on Proudmoore to participate -- both Taint and Stonewall will be creating visitors' guilds interconnected with each host guild's chat. Full details will be posted on the official website, ProudmoorePride.com.
Random Acts of Uberness
It's when another player lights up your night with precise play, a wicked sense of humor or unexpected generosity that your login becomes something to remember. Share your Random Acts of Uberness with theclassifieds@wowinsider.com. Keep things brief (150 words or less, please), and be sure to list everyone's character names and home realms or battlegroup. Don't be afraid of sending an entry more than once if it doesn't appear; sometimes internet dragons eat email, and we'd hate to let that keep deserving players from getting their due.
A PUG, a wonderful PUG -- I've been leveling a resto shaman through the dungeon finder, and have had absolutely terrible groups lately - every stereotype in the book, from diva tank to clueless dps (no really, ask me about the boomkin tank in Scarlet Monastery). I zoned in to Zul'Farrak with Woodvine - Aman'Thul, Somnambulism - Sen'Jin, and Daikon- Eldre'Thalas expecting another lackluster group. We proceeded to four-man the place after the third dps dc'd, and I have not had that much fun with a PUG in a long, LONG time. You guys ROCKED. Here's hoping we meet up again! Love, your healer -- Paridae
Employment: Guild recruitment

First strike, first win Six-year guild recruiting raiders. First Strike www.firststrikeguild.com of Suramar, an Alliance raiding guild focused on completing Heroic content, is recruiting. We have a six year history of providing a stable, mature, and COMPLETELY DRAMA-FREE environment for our members. Looking for a Holy Priest (with solid shadow offspec), Death Knight, Warlock, Shadow Priest, Mage, Boomkin, or any exceptional character. 25-person raiding on Wed/Sun/Mon 8-11 PST. If you want to raid efficiently and have the skill to take it to the next level this is for you.
For parents Ma and Pa Save The World is a new guild freshly created for Parents (hence the name), Casuals and Very Casuals who would like to experience as much of the game as they can, without the pressures the larger guilds place on players with limited playtime, or frequent AFKs (to let little Jimmy out of the bathroom after he locked himself in for the fourth time). We are also a good choice for those with busy work schedules. Ma and Pa Save The World will do 5-Man dungeons, Battleground and World PVP and Heroics once the members hit level cap. Currently we are all on freshly created toons, and loving it, moving through the new Cataclysm revamped content and letting everyone settle into roles.
Might be Metallica You never know, but there's probably worgen. Of Wolf And Man (ofwolfandman.com) would like to invite mature players to build a guild from level 1. There has to be others like me who don't seem to fit anywhere, so I am hoping we would fit together. I intend to start from rock bottom with only a few hours per week to play dungeons and, eventually, evolve to raiding. Common sense, maturity and patience are imperative. Alluren (EU-Bronzebebard)
Reckless raiding Reckless is a 10man raiding guild. The goal of Reckless is to keep making steady progress while having fun playing the game. For us this means full focus in raids and always trying to challenge ourselves to do better. We are looking to add a protection paladin and a restoration/elemental shaman to our guild. We raid 3-4 times/week 20:10 - 23:30 ST.
Vague name I wonder if they're rebelling on behalf of death, or rebelling against death. Deaths Rebels (arathor) is looking to grow its numbers we are a very casual guild enjoy leveling, running alts, heroics, and all things guild we hope to raid in the near future as we get more members to do so

Do we really need this type of content written about here? Why can't this demographic kep to themselves like everyone else does?
DonNochay Jun 15th 2011 3:42PM
I am completely taken aback by this. I honestly came here just to see if someone was going to post some inappropriate douchery, and I almost made it. Except for the very last post. You clearly need to grow up. Either that, or your sheltered religious ideology filled life has made you into a complete assh*le. Just because you're a reclusive, narrow-minded idiot doesn't necessarily mean that everyone needs to be just like you, especially because they have differing views/opinions/outlooks than you.
It's shit like this that deserves an auto ban. Please, WoW insider?
Discolando Jun 15th 2011 3:48PM
@DonNochay - Everyone is entitled to their opinions regardless if you like them or not. Running around asking for 'auto bans' every time someone says something you don't like is hardly indicative of a spirit of understanding and open communication.
Also, why did you bring up religion? He didn't mention a single thing about religion. You assume too much.
In the end, please practice what you preach. If you want maturity, be mature yourself.

@DonNochay what was "inappropriate douchery" about what he said?
believe it or not some people aren't against it but are still offended buy it being shoved in their face
i kinda agree with him i have nothing against and LGBT person
as far as I'm concerned to each his/her own
but.... if i was to do something like a heterosexual march/event would it get the same coverage?
Eddison Jun 15th 2011 4:09PM
You mean keep to themselves like all of the straight people who don't walk down the street holding hands? Or perhaps all the straight people who don't kiss their sweetie good bye after dropping him/her off at work? Or any numerous advertisements, television shows, and movies that never involve straight people in relationship?
Or perhaps the straight people who are beaten up and/or killed for existing because they are straight?
OH WAIT.
You, Zabre, are on the wrong side of history. One day we'll look back on statements like these in amazement just like we look back at Loving vs Virginia and the 19th amendment.
Good luck, Proudmoore! I hope that you have a spectacular party!

"offended buy it being shoved in their face"
This is a column that regularly showcases large player-run events. This is one of those. This article is just doing what it always does by continuing to showcase such events, and is not "shoving anything" in anyone's face.
It said, "Here are some facts about a thing that's happening." What the hell is offensive about that?
slozon3 Jun 15th 2011 4:14PM
@Eddison
no in fact i mean exactly like you say
holding hands while walking/anything = fine
a small goodbye kiss - fine
and normal affection display = fine
what i mean by keep it to themselves is to not go to the highest building and scream
HEY I'M L.G.B.T.
what would you think if a heterosexual person did the same?
see here is the thing i have no hate at all in my post it's people like you that put hate in my post

perhaps i used stronger word there than i should have and it's not that advertising an event is offensive it's what that event is that might be ( this is the key phrase that people need to pay attention too) offensive to some
please don't try and put words in my mouth
Avan Jun 15th 2011 4:22PM
@slozon3:
If you're unsettled by LGBT being "shoved in your face," then you're being trolled by your own biases against them.

"what i mean by keep it to themselves is to not go to the highest building and scream

I'd think, "What's that heterosexual person doing on that building screaming, 'HEY I'M L.G.B.T.'"

"believe it or not some people aren't against it but are still offended buy it being shoved in their face"
I doubt you understand or even care about the origins of gay pride parades, but they have their root in the June 1969 Stonewall riots, in which the gay community of New York revolted against a police force that was arresting them for the (literal) crime of being gay. Rather than be forced into hiding in bars like the Stonewall and wait to be arrested, they took to the streets to protest an absolutely unjust and un-American law.
Subsequent parades -- all held in June, to mark the anniversary of the riots -- had a similar purpose: To get out in the street and declare that their existence was not a crime. Many dressed as flamboyantly and "gay" as possible to rebel against a system that had laws against them doing so. It became a tradition; an annual protest (and later a celebration) of the basic human dignities that GLBTs deserve to be afforded but continue to be denied to this very day.
I suppose you could say that these parades are not "needed." Comments like yours, however -- that people are offended by people being gay, or displaying it in public, or marching, or protesting, or whatever it is your their fragile sensibilities want to be offended by -- are why they still happen. The GLBT community refuses to be pushed into the shadows a the portion of the country who, quite frankly, would prefer that they /not exist at all/. (Not that I'm suggesting you think that way, of course. After all, I'm sure there are plenty of folks who show up at "white power" rallies who aren't actual racists. They're just really into white heritage and culture!)
If want to arrange a "straight pride parade," you're certainly free to do so. There's no law against doing that, and you're very fortunate that's always been the case for you. Don't mind the rest of us if we think you're a complete and total tool for doing it.
Bynde Jun 15th 2011 5:54PM
I understand your sentiment, DonNochay. But, I am a devoted Free Speech warrior.
It's not the speech we like that needs protecting...it's the speech we hate that we all need to protect.
(Of course, this being a private site, "free speech" is not a guarantee at all here.)
superleadplexi Jun 15th 2011 6:39PM
@Fox van Allen - Not a good move for a writer to act like that. You came out of the closet and insulted normal people, so now no one will ever take your writing seriously.
Thatacus Jun 15th 2011 6:43PM
I may be wrong, but I don't think that's the same Fox. I doubt he would create a different name just to post something like that, and if he did to try to conceal his identity, I don't think he would have used one so close to his original.
Fox Van Allen Jun 15th 2011 7:10PM
Nah, it was me. I just used the wrong email address.

I'll take my chances.
Thatacus Jun 15th 2011 7:32PM
@Fox oh well, I've been wrong before lol
@superleadplexi I think it's a bit whacky that you would say he insulted "normal people." Of course I know what you were implying by that, but still interesting word choices. Also, who really has taken Fox's writing seriously? (Jk, of course.)
emberdione Jun 15th 2011 7:40PM
It's fun. It's a huge player driven community event. It's a way of showing solidarity for people who have been unjustly persecuted. It's also a way for LGBT people to feel the same kind of acceptance, inclusion, and belonging that I feel every time I go to PAX.
If you don't like it, learn to skim, and skip that section! Hate doesn't belong here any more that it does anywhere else.
@superleadplexi - What rock have you been hiding under? How did you not already know this? Grow up and realize sexual attraction has exactly ZILCH to do with people's talents. I mean, by that logic, women writers shouldn't be taken seriously because they like men too. /fail.
Xaklo Jun 15th 2011 7:44PM
"now no one will ever take your writing seriously."
What?? Fox is gay? Everything I learned about shadow priesting must have been a lie!!!! Might as well cancel my WoW account now :[
/sarcasm
Fataliaa Jun 15th 2011 7:52PM
Why do we need to march, you ask?
here are a few examples:
- there are still many work places where if you're known to be gay, you get insulted or become victim of segregation
- there are still many young gays who get bullied at school
- there are still many gay people (i know a few personnaly) who get beaten up, robbed, etc. just for being who they are
- there is still a lot of psychological violence against gays in game
how many times do you hear "oh, that's so gay" in a negative way in vent when raiding? in party chat when pugging?
we march to show the world we are proud to stand up to all this opposition. that we are not lesser beings, that we have a right to love and marry, that we deserve respect and are as strong members of society as anyone else.
the day this is all behind us, then we can stop marching.
Bynde Jun 15th 2011 3:43PM
What "content"? That there is a celebration? A march?
You against marches and celebrations now?
