Valor point awards for tier 12 bosses increased

Valor & Justice Points

The number of Valor Points awarded for killing a boss in the Firelands is
70120 in 10-player mode, and90140 in 25-player mode. -
The number of Valor Points awarded for killing Occu'thar in Baradin Hold is
35120 in 10-player mode, and45140 in 25-player mode.
The previous, lower values caused a lot of hand wringing on the official forums. As people rightly complained, they did not allow raiders to reach the weekly cap simply by running the new tier 12 content. Players would have to choose between five-man heroics and stale tier 11 content to cap their VP, something many considered a time-consuming tedium.
The new values allow ten-man raiders to (almost) reach the new

This is some awesome news, finally . I am already fed up with Troll Dungeons !!!
Necromann Jun 15th 2011 1:05PM
I'm not going to be doing much raiding, but this is really cool. At least I can still cap out my valor doing zulheroics.

also remember Occu'thar is in Baradin Hold, so with the first boss being a pretty cut and dry pug encounter, Occu'thar should be harder but not so much that he will be impossible. So it's good now that BH can give the non-hardcore-raiding groups 210 VP each run (then again I am assuming that the first boss still awards VP and not JP now... but still, a plus regardless!)

Woot?
As a player who has geared himself to the point of no upgrades early on due to lucky drops my thought process is simply this: why worry about how fast one gears up? I've never understood the need to gear as quickly as possible for some folks.
Perfect example: I've seen players gripe because their best in slot hasn't dropped for them in over 40+ kills, but they've passed up on the equivalent off-tier piece because they're waiting on the tier drop. Seriously ... Why?
Mugutu Jun 15th 2011 4:40PM
So someone that geared up quickly doesn't understand the frustration of people looking for a specific piece of gear?
Arrohon Jun 15th 2011 2:05PM
I guess it depends on the loot system being used. I can understand not wanting the non tier piece if you're doing Loot Council. If you grab the non tier piece then the tier piece drops later you'll have a less likely chance to get it. Same for DKP systems. Why spend your DKP on a piece when you might not have enough to get that BiS piece if it drops.

Part of the reason I don't feel excited about raids is the random rewards.
If I'm not guaranteed to get a drop in a reasonable maximum number of runs (and guaranteed means 100% chance no matter what), I won't go after that drop. I only grind things when I know beforehand how much I will need to grind in the worst case, and the size of the grind feels right for the reward.
So, after I have seen the whole raid, I would only run it again for fun, or at most to complete the point-bought gear. I treat random drops as if they didn't exist when deciding what I want to do.

The complaints, particularly the one at the World of Matticus blog by tudor or whatever, were something I just don't get.
People clearing raid instances, particularly on heroic, are not people dependent on VP for gear after a month or so into the current tier. The rate of gear acquisition for them is going to be higher than anyone else simply by virtue of their raid progress.
I am glad to see that Blizz fixed this the right way, by increasing the raid VP, rather than reducing the non-raid VP.
Sterb Jun 15th 2011 2:37PM
Simply not true. Once you've cleared all the content, you've maximized your gear acquisition potential and believe it or not, the pieces you need may not drop for months (particularly for 10 man guilds).
VP gear is an excellent way to fill in a spot you don't get a drop for and accelerating your iLvl progression as a whole. Given the cost of each of the VP pieces and the weekly cap, it wouldn't be surprising to see even cutting edge raiders buying gear months into a patch.
darian Jun 15th 2011 3:34PM
Actually, it takes three weeks of capping VP to get one piece of VP gear, and most everyone will have at least 4-6 pieces of VP gear which are BiS. That's *at least* 3 months of raiding before VP stops offering upgrades, and doesn't account for hybrid classes working on a second set of gear either.
With only half the VP cap available from raiding the current content, that meant that for those entire three months even the best guilds would be compelled to run 5-mans. Reducing non-raid VP wasn't a tenable option for Blizzard seeing as the core complaint was "Why can't I cap VP by raiding current content?"
coville Jun 15th 2011 1:20PM
Has it been confirmed that heroic pugs will still get 70VP and Troll pugs will continue to get 140VP?
KataSamoes Jun 15th 2011 1:53PM
Unless they say otherwise, I don't see why they would change.
Kirke Jun 15th 2011 1:41PM
"The new values allow ten-man raiders to reach the new 960 point VP cap with a full clear of all new tier 12 content; 25-man raiders can reach the cap by beating any seven of the eight." - should be 980 point VP cap
John Jun 15th 2011 2:09PM
My understanding is:
Players Firelands BH Firelands + BH
10-Man 840 120 960
25-Man 980 140 1120 Valor Points
ZA/ZG = 140 per run, 7 runs max (up to 980 pts, reduced by the # of pts from other 5-mans so that the total from Z and non-Z 5-mans is limited to 980)
non-ZA/ZG = 70 per run, 7 runs max (up to 490 pts, again reduced by the # of pts from other 5-mans so that the total from Z and non-Z 5-mans is limited to 980)
I am not 100% sure. A second-check would be appreciated :)

@Mugutu: I've never searched for a specific piece of gear. Ever. The gear I get comes to me when it does, eventually all the gear gets to everyone, so why stress on it?
@Arrohon: Our loot system is very simple. We discuss who needs the item(s) amongst our present raiders and if there are multiple then it's a simple roll. No drama, no issues. The piece I specifically reference earlier simply has only dropped once for our guild.
I can understand that my opinion is not a popular one, but it seems very silly to me to stress over loot when eventually something will drop that is equivalent that can be used ...
meh
Mugutu Jun 15th 2011 5:50PM
Not all of us have all the time in the world to wait for gear, and not everyone has proper equivalents. Go talk to a holy paladin about gear - their T11 is garbage, they have to rely entirely on boss drops to perform at their best. Waiting for "equivalent" stuff isn't efficient or desirable when you have shit to do.
jynxycat Jun 15th 2011 2:38PM
What's funny is that guilds won't be 7/7 at 4.2 launch, and will still be short of the cap until they have the whole dungeon on farm. They'll still have to do ZA/ZG to fill out the points.
By the time the raid is on farm for normal modes, they probably won't need VP anyway -_-
Aaron Jun 15th 2011 3:09PM
I think your avatar needs to /roll need on some pants. xD
Skarn Jun 15th 2011 5:12PM
That's the same way BoT/BwD/Throne was. Same for Icecrown and ToC. Only the super good guilds can cap out their Valor in week one through just raids. That's always how it's been, I don't see why it needs to change.
