This song and video were created by World of Filkcraft, featuring Aquilae. Part of Your Guild is the lament of a gamer who's ready to rock out in raids, but hasn't quite made it into the ideal guild yet. It's obviously a parody of Part of the World from The Little Mermaid. (Okay, perhaps not obviously; it occurs to me The Little Mermaid came out 22 years ago.)
The team at World of Filkcraft consistently blow me away. They focus on and master the musical aspect of their craft, creating some incredible songs that serve as both homage to the inspiration and to the game. I have nothing but love and respect for those folks. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.
this was really cute... i was reminded of richard's (looking for group) "slaughter your world" parody of part of your world.. good stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcbazH6aE2g
also. i feel really old hearing that little mermaid was released 22 years ago. so thanks for that :P
I wouldn't think too much about when a Disney movie comes out. Kids still know about all those movies. Disney will forever be re-releasing that and every other movie they've ever made.
The best song parodies have an extraordinary knack for making the listener laugh at the new material while simultaneously reminding them of the original lyrics (meter, rhyme scheme, subject matter, original artist's phrasing, etc.). It's one of those things that is much harder to pull off than you might think, as the loads of bad song parodies out there routinely prove. Yes, it's true: comedy is hard.
The World of Filkcraft folk are making some of the best WoW parodies out there, bar none. Their ability to match lyrics to sources as diverse as Oasis, Disney, and Gerry Rafferty (Gerry Rafferty!) is impressive.
Oh, and FWIW, the Eminem "Stan" parody Aquilae did with Darkpippi is nothing short of jaw-droppingly brilliant.
That there are people alive right now and able to play the same things that I play, and yet cannot tell me that this song is a parody of "Part of Your World" is perhaps the most terrifying thing I have ever heard.
It looks like the right arm of someone wearing a red sweater, but good catch!
Other than that, what a treat this video was! Wonderfully edited, and what a beautiful voice! This level of craftsmanship is what I always hope other WoW video makers would aspire to.

Uh huh. First? You really care? Ok then....
Back on the topic... it looks like she's placed a Little Mirmaid video cover on the dresser behind her too, maybe as a little easter egg to find.

I can't believe I'm the first to post this but she's pretty smokin' for a gamer girl.
