Addon Spotlight: Grab bag 5

Grab bags are always popular Addon Spotlight columns. The amount of email I get after each grab bag spotlight is usually leaps and bounds more than any other type of Addon Spotlight article. Why, you may ask? People love lots of addon recommendations in one spot! It's a plethora of new, fun things all in one space.
This week's grab bag is truly a diverse collection of addons, each providing players with a unique function. Do you have any favorite addons that belong in the grab bag? Grab bag addons are usually addons that don't really need too much explanation or write-up to fully grasp. Little utilities, quality-of-life tweaks, and other minor novelties are great for grouping together. If you've got a suggestion for the grab bag, please email it to mat@wowinsider.com with a subject referencing addons!
tullaRange
Simple addons that just work are my favorite type of addon. The range finder on the default user interface is tiny and ineffective -- the size of the little key bind indicator is just too small to be effective in a pinch. That's what I like tullaRange.
tullaRange works by changing action buttons to a set color when a target is out of range for that particular ability. The color defaults to red when an ability is unusable because of range, but players are able to set the color in the options menu. Since the addon is so lightweight and simple, there are only two options in the configuration.
Not only can you use tullaRange to let you know what abilities are unusable because of range, you can also use it to shade action buttons that are unavailable due to lack of rage, energy, mana, or focus. Each color is independently changeable from the options menu. I like having an indicator on my action buttons that let me know what abilities are available because I hate listening to my character scream "not enough rage!" over and over and over.
You might know the developer of tullaRange, Tuller, from his other amazing addons -- Combuctor, Dominos, Bagnon, and more. This addon comes from good stock. tullaRange is simple, memory and CPU light, and provides a valuable function. What more do you need?

Vanisher
Rogues, has this ever happened to you? You're happily fighting along, a stab here and an eviscerate there, when suddenly a pesky DOT class stands between you and sweet escape. Your debuff bar fills quickly with icons and vanishing away isn't likely to get you far. When is it safe to vanish?
Vanisher is one of those addons that lives in most rogues' toolboxes as crucial and important. It watches your debuffs and rogue cooldowns and lets you know when it is safe to vanish without breaking. The addon will also let you know what DOTs can be removed with Cloak of Shadows, and even watches your personal cooldowns to see when Cloak is ready.
Non-rogues can use Vanisher as a guide to decide when to use a bandage. DOT ticks will stop a bandage cast, so an addon to accurately time and use bandages is a pretty great feature to have. I know I hate popping a bandage only to have it quit healing me after one terrible tick of health.

Some stalwart _NPCScan fans sent me emails the other week when I was writing and reporting on the new hunter pet taming challenges coming with patch 4.2 in the Molten Front and the Regrowth. If you're a hunter out searching for these new creatures, _NPCScan is an invaluable tool.
You probably already know what _NPCScan does. In fact, I've probably talked about it in a grab bag article in the past! I do that sometimes. However, with a new patch coming that has distinctly rare mobs being added, reminding people about _NPCScan doesn't hurt.
So what does this addon do? _NPCScan will go through your creature cache and see if you've recently seen a special mob. When a rare creature pops into your cache folder, the addon sounds a very audible gong to let you know that the creature is near you. Target, find, and destroy or tame, depending on your proclivities. With the coming of patch 4.2, you can be sure that _NPCScan will be updated to include the new hunter rares. Be prepared, hunters!

Aka'Magosh, Mat!Many people don't know this, but if your raid primarily uses DBM, there is a extra package available that adds on to DBM called Spell Timers. By using DBMs internal timer tools, you can see your raid's spell cooldowns. It's simple to use. Even Matticus uses it, so you know it's good.
Is there an addon out there that lets me see what raid cooldowns are available from my players? We don't always run the same comp week-to-week and remembering everything available to me gets tough when the list keeps changing. Having a list of currently available CD's and seeing a timer that says 'Tranquility available from (Druid name) in 1:45' (for example) would be super.
Thanks!
Touk, H-Spinebreaker (US)
The other option is something like oRA3 or RaidCooldowns, both competent addons in their own right.
i love the add on " healers have to die" its great!! its helped win multiple battlegrounds and very few know about it!!Healers Have to Die! is probably the best-named addon ever made for WoW. I am pretty sure I've talked about Healers Have to Die! before but it bears a repeat. This addon watches your PvP enemies and makes a judgement call on who is a healer based on the spells they cast. If the addon "detects" a healer, it puts a red cross on their name plate. Oh, yes, do remember to have your name plates enabled. Have fun mowing down healers in PvP with your new easy healer-notification system.
thanks so much

With _NPCScan, by "very audible gong," you mean "shrieking drum roll that gives you a heart attack," right?
tgrhwke Jun 16th 2011 1:23PM
You can change the audible alert from the drum roll to other sounds in the options. :)
llcjay2003 Jun 16th 2011 1:57PM
I changed mine alert and now, since the list of options so long, it goes past what I can see on the screen to return it to the default sound. Anyone know how to reset the alert tone to default?

The guildmate who told me about it said the first time it went off that it made such an unexpected noise that he though he'd won some sort of a prize.

I've scared the hell out of myself toggled off and then a random rare wanders through where I'm at when the trumpets go off. Empty basement. 11:30 PM. Those are the times I stay up for an extra hour just cuz of the adrenaline. LOL

Mine is set to the WC2 peasant's "More Work?!" quote, and I love that guy so I always laugh when it comes up :)

I want an addon called "Healers Have to Hide"
Oteo Jun 16th 2011 1:39PM
I haven't gotten it to work quite as I want yet (only seems to work out of combat right now), but I set up Power Auras to put a red "DANGER" over my character when she's being targeted by a player.

HHTD works well in PvE, too. Good for occasional tanks who don't have every single trash pull memorized; any enemy type that's ever cast a heal near you will forever be marked as a healer on future runs, serving as a reminder when you're staring at a group, trying to remember who gets CC'd.
Tirrimas Jun 16th 2011 1:49PM
This sounds incredibly useful for PVE, especially for a mob-dyslexic person like me who constantly gets them confused (Lost City, I'm looking at YOU).
messiahxi Jun 16th 2011 2:47PM
If it forever labels mobs as healers, does it do the same for players? ie, if xXLoLShamWoWXx is resto today, and elemental tomorrow, will my HHTD continue to label him as a healer?
Amanda A. Jun 16th 2011 3:44PM
@Messaiah-- I don't think it does. I could be mistaken.
Caliea Jun 21st 2011 10:46AM
Messiah - I think you can set a 'healing threshold' and any player that puts out heals that cross that threshold is marked. I don't think it keeps a database of player information out there. So if a priest runs up and starts healing, he gets marked. If he runs up the next time and is dpsing, then it doesn't mark him.
I have the addon and love it. It's very useful, and I've created a macro that yells "(target) is a healer! Kill him!" whenever someone lights up as a healer. It's great to see everyone around you switch to the healer and burn him down. Not so great if you're the healer though...

Healers have to die has to be the best add on yet. I will DL it tonight. Oh boy
Amaxe Jun 16th 2011 9:19PM
Never heard of it before, but I downloaded it for when I do TB.

NPCScan vs. Silver Dragon?
I use Silver Dragon, but I'm open to other options. The thing has some very . . . odd interactions. Sometimes it prevents me from changing glyphs or using the Gear Manager (at least, I'm 99% certain it's that; if I disable Silver Dragon, those problems go away).
Kuro Jun 16th 2011 1:39PM
It's a Blizard UI bug. It also causes issues with raid markers.
Happens all the time with.. DBM, Vuhdo, recount, *insert addon here*:
Here's the reply about it from the Vuhdo developer:
"Both errors you're reporting are actually blizzard bugs. It is not vuhdo alone that triggers them. If you turn vuhdo off and play for a while, you're going to find a number of other addons that will "trigger it". But those bugs in fact appear even with all the addons turned off. Glyph UI in particular is notorious for appearing with or without addons, but if you're running with addons, it will just tack on the error on whatever addon. But vuhdo doesn't really have anything to do with glyphs nor does it touch the glyph pane in any way.
In short, until blizz decides to fix their code, there's nothing to be done but hit /reload ui."
Ruana Jun 16th 2011 2:27PM
I used SilverDragon up until it wasn't being as reliable and having issues in Cata. I have since switched to NPCScan. The only problem with the latter is it will register hunter pets as the named mob, so then cache it, and the cache will need to be dumped. SD didn't do that.
Zachary Hartley Jun 23rd 2011 6:37PM
Actually, there is a mod that mitigates the Blizzard UI error:
http://www.wowace.com/addons/inspectfix/
Probably a good one to mention in the next Addon Spotlight, since it is super useful and it seems few people are aware of it.

I've been desparately looking for a tooltip add-on that will move inventory/equipment information AWAY from the mouse. That info pops up and obscures other important things in my bags that I want to be able to see at the same time. Any help?
