This is a very interesting article, and it makes me wish I had an inscription character. Do you have any tips for someone starting off in the alchemy market? Obviously it is a different market but a lot of the herb related tricks still apply I presume.

Best part was the Sim City 2000 reference lol Fox typed out "priscilla" then proceeded to give himself money then called in a monster and rioters to take out the undercutters.

There aren't really what you would call "tricks". Fox followed the basic principles that most people who make a lot of gold do.You need to research the market until you find at least one, but preferably several crafted products that satisfy these criteria:a) raw mats are readily available (either on the AH, or find a gatherer who will keep you supplied) in quantityb) the item sells fairly frequently (you can do markets where things sell infrequently, but it's riskier)c) the mats can be obtained for less than the average AH sale price of the crafted item. (the smaller the margin here, the more you need b) to be high)Then it's a matter of working out your buying/crafting/listing automation and occasionally dealing with other players working the same market. (Automation and dealing with competition is what this column is mostly about, so for info on that stuff read the column archives.)The automation is crucial, because the items you find might not be very high margin. So to get good volume, you need to minimize your active-at-computer time to keep a good gold/hour ratio. Now you ask specifically about alchemy. But you just can't limit yourself to one profession if you want to make a lot of gold. It may very well be that you can't find anything on your server that can be made by alchemy that satisfies the 3 criteria above. You'll note that Fox said he had several professions and tried a few different things until he found a good market (for his server). So, check out the flask, potion, elixir, and transmute markets on your server first to see if you can find anything that matches the 3 criteria. But if you can't, be prepared to research and switch to other professions. While Fox explains where he made most of his gold, the article shouldn't, I think, be taken as: "craft this specific stuff that I crafted and you'll get wow-rich". Instead, it's: "here's an example of how I applied the basic principles."

I don't know the market for herbs but I know that Cata flasks go for around 150g each on my server. There has to be some money to be made there.
