The Queue: Oh man did someone say talent
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney is in ur base your Queue, killin ur doods answering your questions.
Hello again! It's me, here to answer all your direly important burning questions. I have hijacked this column from Adam today, so let's get started, shall we?
techvoodooguy asks:
Question: What's your favorite talent?
You see that video up there? That.
Rezai asks:
Question: What did Sacco do to Anne; that she no longer comes on the podcast?

Rezai asks:

Sacco hasn't done anything to me at all. Except neglect my existence. I'll be over here crying in the corner. :(
Seriously though, usually if someone asks for a particular writer to be on the WoW Insider Show, the hosts will do their best to get that writer on the podcast. So in other words, if you'd like to hear me, or anyone else from the esteemed WoW Insider staff for that matter, drop the hosts an email and let them know about it!
Flarebear asks:
I recently went through Hyjal on my new warrior, and when I hit the quest Aesinna's Miracle (the one where the mountain turns all green and stuff) there was a little cutscene where Aesinna talked to my warrior. I don't remember this part being in it when I leveled my other characters through Hyjal. Did they add this cutscene in a recent patch or am I just going crazy?
You are absolutely sane, Flarebear. The cutscene has been there since beta, however the last step of the quest involved turning the quest in to Hamuul Runetotem. He was over waiting for players at Aesinna's shrine, but the quest helper pointed players back to Malorne's shrine instead. The issue's been fixed now, but a large chunk of players missed out on that very cool -- and pretty important -- cutscene when Cataclysm released.
Ehiz asks:
Question: Is the Ice Lord Ahune going to be updated with cata equivalent gear or at least with one of the PVE currency?
More than likely. We've seen hints of updated loot datamined from here and there, and it's not really likely that Blizzard would leave in an old boss with old gear -- nobody would bother with the holiday content. ... now if the Ice Lord would be kind enough to drop a pet for me this year, I'd be happy.
Strawder asks:
Question for the Queue: What's happened to the Blue Child? I remember the days seeing it and the White Lady up in the sky in Azeroth, but apart from some official artwork and things like Ulduar, the Blue Child is totally forgotten.
Any information on what's happened to it insomuch as its disappearance in WoW? Did Blizzard remove it on purpose or was it a graphical glitch as is commonly believed? And if it is a glitch, why don't they fix it?
According to a fanciful GM, the Blue Child was "sent away by the Earthmother to learn about the universe" just before The Burning Crusade. I wouldn't take that as written lore, however. If I remember correctly, the Blue Child disappeared when they added weather effects to vanilla zones in patch 1.10.0 -- I could be wrong, however. Regardless, I think the Blue Child was removed due to graphic errors of one kind or another.
Alternatively, the Exodar took it out during their abrupt collision with Azeroth.
Kurtzilla1111 asks:
I've vaguely heard rumors of Algalon's return. Do these rumors hold any merit?
Depends on where you heard the rumors. The last issue of the World of Warcraft comics series was a "special issue" that featured an introduction of sorts to a "new" series -- one that would follow various characters of the Horde and Alliance. Not major lore figures, but everyday citizens like the characters you and I play. Algalon made an appearance in this issue, observing these everyday characters and trying to muddle out just what makes the mortals of Azeroth tick.
Given his last words after his defeat in Ulduar, it's kind of implied we might see him again -- but there's been nothing confirmed. As with any rumor, unless it's out of the mouth of a developer, consider it nothing more than speculation.
areohbeebeewhy asks:
Q fo' da Q: In regards to speaking about certain versions of WoW, how did the original WoW game come to be knows as "Vanilla"?
World of Warcraft by itself is the plain, original version of the game. WoW on its own is vanilla, like vanilla ice cream, and each additional expansion offers a new and exciting flavor. I don't know about you, but I was a fan of The Burning Crusade flavor. Tasted kinda like a rainbow sorbet.
Oh let's answer one more, just because I'm feeling chatty!
Scott asks:
Question for the Q: To combat my distaste for repetitive dailies and bad pugs, i have recently rolled an Undead Warrior to visit the "new" quest experiences of Post-Cataclysm Azeroth. While avenging the Tauren slain in the Barrens, I was tasked with heading into the embers of Camp Taurajo and dispatching the miserable looters. To my surprise, I discovered something that i had to ask you about:
Why the HECK is there still a working mailbox in the middle of Camp Taurajo?
I enjoy getting my Auction House profits in a timely fashion as much as anyone, but... really? Talk about breaking the flow...
Because neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, nor the winds of change, nor a massive firebombing from encroaching Alliance will stay the postmasters of Azeroth from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Plus those mailboxes? They're built tough. Horde tough.
And I'm outta here!

I think the more PC way of asking would be:
When will Blizzard announce their latest subscriber numbers?
Do not lead the question. Anytime anyone mentions the #'s are down, people get huffy.
WoW ain't going anywhere, and it's silly to think they would keep growing at the rate they were. Right now they'll fluctuate quite a bit.

*builds wowcarebear a bridge*
there ya go little guy. i know being homeless can make a person cranky.
wowcarebear Jun 16th 2011 12:58PM
I predicted WoW is going to lose more subs. Some of you try to dismiss my prediction by insinuating that I claimed WoW isn't going to be profitable anymore.
@Grovinofdarkhour
I think you're too conservative. I believe the losses will be exponential.
@cutaia
Keep hitting the refresh button. I like that you're so interested in what I have to say. :D

"Keep hitting the refresh button. I like that you're so interested in what I have to say. :D"
Ah, yes...the standard, ever-transparent, "Replying to me automatically means I've won" response.
*picks up phone and dials*
"Uh, yes, leg store? I was wondering if you had anything for my friend wowcarebear here to stand on. Oh, no? Nothing to stand on, you say? Alright then."

Don't know if you were the one who asked this yesterday, but I answered it yesterday, and it's still the same.
Per earnings.com, Activision/Blizzard's next earnings report is scheduled for a timeframe between August 9 - August 13, 2011. That is when they will release their subscriber numbers for wow, along with the rest of the pertinent financial information that would be released at that time.
wowcarebear Jun 16th 2011 1:16PM
cutaia you tricked me. First, you talk about masturbation. Then, you call me a dick. I figured you'd keep your 'penis theme' going.
Edit: Banned. Signed, Alex.

"The point of the Chicken Little story isn't that the sky is falling. It's that it ISN'T falling, and that Chicken Little is a paranoid idiot."
Genius, Microtonal, genius. I think I just found a new quote for my favourite quote list.
Drack Jun 16th 2011 1:21PM
So I found this video earlier and have been just itching to use it.

Oh joyous day.

Dude, I am so calling my wife and telling her this. She's going to laugh her ass off.
No one has EVER called me "too conservative" before.
Scomparsa Jun 16th 2011 1:24PM
No, dude, it's this one:

carebear's comments reminds me that the Middle Schools are all out for Summer break and the Trade chat level of maturity drops like a dead rock. Not that it had far to go, mind you.
Enjoy Summer Camp, wowcarebear. Keep a journal, as when you get back to school this Fall your Home Room teacher will probably ask what you did this Summer.
wowcarebear Jun 16th 2011 1:41PM
Was that a response from totalbiscuit to all the fanboys that tried to claim he "rage quit?"

I was going to mention something about Blizzard being the only company to have announced subscription losses, but I'm doubting the significance of such a potential fact.
One of the potential impacts of subscription loss announcements is in customer faith. When you're already King of the Mountain, it's not as big of a deal. For struggling or niche MMOs, it is. So really, WoW is one of the few games in a position to make subscription loss announcements.
Jason Jun 16th 2011 2:57PM
I think I can help here; the real number of active subscriptions is 12,000,004.
I just started 5 boxing and purchased 4 new accounts yesterday. I'm almost 1% positive my calculations are correct at this time.
(I named all 5 of my druids different variations of "wowcarebear" before this comment was authored I swear)
Utakata Jun 16th 2011 3:56PM
You know I've said some pretty outlandish and wild things here in my time. Even got the ugly end of McCurley and Sacco. That's because I am passionate about the game I've played for and invested in for six years for good and bad. And I'll even claim since Cataclysm, WoW has gone off the rails quite a bit...including doing things to lose it's subs in large numbers (and I strongly suspect, still are)...
...but none of which I posted are meant to get a rise out of the readers, so disingenuously with such blatant ignorance as you've displayed, wowcarebear. You sir are a *bleeping!* troll.
(cutaia) Jun 16th 2011 4:29PM
"But I don't know what happened to cutaia."
Is this the part where I'm damned if I do reply, damned if I don't? Who would have suspected you'd fault me either way? *genuine surprise...no, really*
"Almost 2 pages of responses to my comment. You see how easy it is to get these fools riled up."
People like you basically have the mentality of a dog who pisses all over the house because he's starving for some attention, be it negative or not. "Riling people up" is basically the only way you can actually feel like you have any amount of power in this world. Admitting to this pathetic ploy, whether you understand it or not, does not make people feel silly for having fallen into what you think is some clever trap. It just reenforces for them what a worthless human being you really are.
(cutaia) Jun 16th 2011 4:32PM
Either they deleted his new account as I typed that, or I just imagined something.
If it's the latter...apparently I can copy/paste from my imagination, which is going to be super useful.
anuillae Jun 16th 2011 5:05PM
Ugh. I wouldn't want to copy/paste out of *my* imagination.
loop_not_defined Jun 16th 2011 9:48PM
Oh man, I would *love* to copy/paste from my imagination! :D

Question for the queue: Regarding the T11 gear being available for Honor points in 4.2, does that apply to ALL the T11 gear? (like the helms/pauldrons) or only the T11 that can currently be purchased with Valor Points
