World of Warcraft is Dead by Jesse Cox and Wowcrendor is a response to all those folks who keep saying that the World of Warcraft is going to be over any second now. We all know those folks; we've seen them on the official forums for years, and they even lurk around the dark corners of fan and news sites.
Still, even after 6 years of people predicting the doom of WoW ... here we are. Blizzard has created one hell of a game, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down quite yet. Just remember this when the next person tells you that the game is dead. That's been said before, and it will probably be said again.

Now if I could only bring myself to send this to every doomsayer out there, I would... succeed in creating a gap for newer people to QQ. Nope, no way people are going to stop saying it.
It isn't dead, but it's dying. I can see it as sells on gems, glyphs and everything have been plumetting since february... on top of that, every guildmate I knew since vanilla is gone. I'm staying for an additional month because of the patch, if not, I would have left a few weeks ago.
That could just represent change. Every time I create a new alt I meet people new to WoW in nearly every dungeon I enter.
For me personally, having only started in Dec 2010 I have been very, very scared of WoW stopping. I waited SO long to be able to play, and for it to finish before I've had any real amount of time to play is such a scary thought.
But, given the HUGE amount of subscribers, and the fact that the overwhelming majority are happy with the game gives me hope and happiness that I can enjoy a few more years of WoW before they darken the servers.
The decrease in sale of gems and glyphs is mostly due to the fact that we are about 6 months into this expansion. People don't need glyphs anymore since they now only need to be used once and most players have the glyphs they need. Same goes for gems - people don't switch gear now as much as they did in the beginning of Cataclysm when everyone was gearing up. The lesser new gear people acquire, the fewer gems will be sold on the auction house.
This makes the demand for gems and glyphs very low and as well all know the demands sets both the price and the amount of items sold. Because of the lower demand, the prices on both glyphs and gems have fallen and the interest in selling them has fallen as well because of the lower chance of you actually selling them.
To be fair, since launch WoW has (given its reported 30% first months retention rate) probablly over 100 million former players at this point.
which is to be honest why im critacal of any game development company that overfocuses on people who dont currently play the game (the mythical "future" or "potential" players)
I'm confused, Oakraven, are you actually saying that Blizz overfocuses on people who don't play the game, or are you talking in general? Because I think that Blizz strikes a good balance, they definitely listen to the playerbase (despite what people will argue- i cited a number of examples such as the exalted title and real names on the forums to which the person I was arguing with basically said 'oh those don't count' but they do) as well as taking into account what will get and keep players. Stuff like starting zone revamps and everything were basically meant to keep people from leaving early on.. but they benefit everyone, you know?
i'm not. I actually don't like the REM version. it's weird, I think the orignial is too "revenant" - being they lived through it all. More modern cover versions treat it like a song and not a statement of the times they lived, I think.
Everything is "dying". The minutes something is born or created it starts to die.
I wouldn't worry about it. It'll be here as long as its profitable and it's still way profitable. And there's no way Blizzard would let it's massive player/customer base juts "disappear". they'll start a Warcraft II before they allow that to happen.
It is worth pointing out that there already IS a warcraft 2 and its expansion. And 3. And an expansion to 3.
Will Blizzard make a World of Warcraft 2? Probably not. If they do continue the franchise, it would probably be back to its RTS roots. This is because Blizz is already working on another MMO (code named project Titan).
I don't know why people pay attention to those that keep claiming WoW is dead and that they're leaving the game. If someone really wanted to leave, they'd do so without announcing anything. I personally stopped playing after my raid group disbanded back in April but I didn't go around touting that.
If anything, these trolls who make videos claiming WoW is dead won't leave the game because they fear their internet "fame" will wither away.
P.S: Yes, I know this particular video is a parody of the doomsday videos, I'm referring to the actual trolls claiming WoW is dead in my comment here.
The only thing I have seen is that "hardcore" players are leaving. The funny thing is they go to another game just like WOW. Also the game releases the expansion, you get idiots with no lives who down the content in 2 months and they are all "WOW is gay I quit". The a new patch rinse and repeat.

There's a video in this post I think you might want to watch.

Wait, you're saying that the market coming off of highs after an expansion means it's dying?

Basic economics.

"Resonant"?
