The Queue: Out of retirement

I decided to bring my Wrath shaman out of retirement, finally, and spent the better part of an afternoon getting his UI back to functionality, learning the new shaman stuff, and reseting and relearning all of the new talents. Seriously, there was a lot of dust on him. Sure, I've been following shaman progression through Cataclysm, but I had to relearn a lot of the class.
During Wrath, my shaman was restoration and elemental, as I never played enhancement after hitting the level cap at the time. After fixing his UI and getting everything set, I decided I really wanted to play enhancement. It just felt right, ya know? The trouble was that I had zero pieces of enhancement gear to start questing in Hyjal. One quick trip to the auction house rewarded me with cheap Cataclysm greens, but I was still holding my spell dagger and a shield. Throwing caution to the wind, I made off to Mount Hyjal, Stormstriking my way through the the first quests with ghost wolves, a dagger, and a shield.
I'm having way too much fun. Hopefully I'll get some new weapons soon. A part of me doesn't want to, however.

Will any of the Firelands bosses or quests give rep with Hydraxian Waterlords? I figure its a stretch since they haven't really done that sort of thing before, but it is a sound choice lore-wise.
The only new faction that players will be gaining reputation with is the Avengers of Hyjal, which will be acquired through raiding thew new Firelands raid tier. Guardians of Hyjal reputation is still received for doing quests in the Regrowth, I believe. Sadly, our old friends the Hydraxian Waterlords are not taking part in this assault on Ragnaros this time. Their reputation is still only accessible through killing trash (up to a certain point) and bosses in the Molten Core.
Perhaps we will meet the Hydraxians another time in the future, when (and if) we go back to the Abyssal Maw. Duke Hydraxis, leader of the Hydraxian pure water elementals, is a servant of Neptulon who broke free of his master's control. One day, maybe. One day.

Q to ponder: Do you or someone you know play WoW in first the person view?
I was thinking of making an alt and play only in first person view. I think it would make the world a little more scary seeing giant spiders and other creatures.
I don't think MMOs have been designed to be played in first person mode since Everquest or maybe even Asheron's Call. Even Everquest eventually pulled the camera back out from inside your character's head. I was one of those players who always had trouble playing an MMO in first-person because I had immense amounts of trouble with understanding my surroundings.
In WoW, there is so much to look at and watch for in terms of ground effects, environmental damage, etc., that the game was not designed to be played in first person mode. So, no, I don't see any reason to play in first person, except when I need to remove my character for screen shot purposes.
chefjr3 asked:
Ive been playing WoW since late 2007, is it worth it now to go back and play WC 1,2 and 3 to get a better perspective on the game as a whole?
If you are an RTS fan, absolutely. I loved the Warcraft games from beginning to end. They were engaging and fun, the stories were quirky, and they provided great gaming experiences. Of course, I have to cop to nostaligia since I basically built a computer back in the day to play Warcraft II, and these games were a big part of my youth. That said, they provide the very essence and foundation for World of Warcraft in a profound way, and I believe are worth the playthrough.
Or, as most people said in the comments, if RTS games aren't your thing, you can look through YouTube for videos of the crucial lore moments and story hooks. You can also read about the past games on Know Your Lore, Wowpedia, etc.

There's confusion in my guild as to the immediate availability of the new Firelands raid bosses. Must we get "attuned" by completing some/all of the new quests? Also, which quest, if any, must we complete that is currently available in order to unlock the new quest hubs? I'm having a hard time finding a straight answer online.
Thanks!
There is no attunement necessary to enter the new Firelands raid. The entrance is located in Hyjal at Sulfuron Spire in the southern part of the zone. In order to participate in the new Regrowth and Molten Front daily hub zones, you will have had to completed up to and including the quest Aessina's Miracle to see the new daily content.

Pallies can use polearms actually, there are some str polearms hanging around but they are mostly at lower levels
Arrohon Jun 18th 2011 12:40PM
The STR polearm from Hellfire Ramparts is still one of the coolest looking weapons in the game...
Ctmcstomperq Jun 18th 2011 12:55PM
Umm, last time I check, Pallies could indeed use polearms...
Dale Jun 18th 2011 1:25PM

Udderpowered Jun 18th 2011 4:22PM
Don't polearms have their own animations? Shame you never get to see them outside of a hunter being nearly dead. Big scary str tridents please!
Eddy Jun 18th 2011 4:39PM
You may have them when I can have an agility-based 2h axe again for my hunter.
Which I don't imagine ever seeing again, because that would be itemized for only the one class now. But I did cry myself to sleep when I saw that the Zul'again Trollbane was not for me anymore.
SR Jun 18th 2011 4:45PM
Agility-based axe? Here ya go.

Do you think yet will ever increase the daily quest cap, for one day? I'm doing my TB dailies, my argent tourney dailies, and my JC daily everyday, and still want to do all of my BC dailies, but can't due to the limit. Has there been anything said by Blizz, or is it just a technical issue, like with the bags?
Brett Porter Jun 18th 2011 12:28PM
I would guess it is not a technical issues, but rather one where they want to limit how much rewards (read: gold) you can get from daily quests. This is just a guess, of course, perhaps it is technical.
Arrohon Jun 18th 2011 12:44PM
They could raise it as they've done it once before. I don't know how hard it would be to do so again. Eventually you'll get need to cut out the dailies that you've gotten all the rewards from (why do the TB dailies when you have both mounts and all the gear you need?).

Let's say that Blizzard decides to remove class limitations by race, be it all at once or slowly over the next few expansions. Aside from the few combinations that severely break lore (Hi, I'm a draenei warlock!) would it really harm the game?
Personally, I could see most combinations opening up through cultural drift, if nothing else. For example, you can see every player race in the game training in Hearthglen; surely that night elf could learn to be a paladin from the Argent Crusade if she wanted to. Other seemingly unlikely combinations have had lore mentions-- the earliest lore mention of a high elf druid was in the Warcraft II manual (blood elves were still high elves at that point,) and later there was a blood elf resto druid boss in one of the TK dungeons. There's a draenei dressed in black leather in the Exodar; he sells poisons to visiting rogues. I'm sure there's other examples out there.
Arrohon Jun 18th 2011 12:46PM
I want a tauren rogue.
Knob Jun 18th 2011 1:37PM
Tauren rogues already exist, they're just very good.
Draelan Jun 18th 2011 2:23PM
Yeah. Didn't you know? Deathwing's appearances and the "Stood in the Fire" achievement are merely a cover for the periodic mass-slaughtering antics of a group of Tauren Rogues.
Noyou Jun 18th 2011 3:02PM
While I usually don't mind what races get what- if they let humans and blood elves become druids I might just have to hang it up. I don't even play a druid but I think lorewise they are special. Draenei's going rogue would bother me a lot too. That just seems so beneath them.
Henrah Jun 18th 2011 3:21PM
I love Night Elf lore. I love their architecture, I love their style. Night Elves and Darnassus were also what hooked me in the game from the beginning. Teldrassil is epic in scope, and when you get to Darnassus for the first time, and that booming music begins.. one of the greatest moments in WoW, in my opinion.
I play the majority of my classes as Night Elves for those very reasons.
However, my spacegoat looks a little out of place chilling in Darnassus, so I'd love to play a Night Elf Shaman.
SR Jun 18th 2011 4:50PM
What puzzles me is the fact that there's no Draenei druid or Worgen shaman.
I mean, c'mon. Even Goblins can be one. Albeit they're DRAINING the elements, but still.
On that note, why can't Gnomes harness the power of the elements like the Goblins?
On that other note, I don't see how we have undead priests and not undead paladins. Lorewise, even the undead priests utilize the Light to "cauterize" heal the other undead; Why not allow them to champion it?
Arrohon Jun 18th 2011 7:27PM
Human druids exist. Level as a worgen druid and your trainer (before you turn into a worgen) is human. There are likely Gilnean druids that escaped the curse too.
Anteia Jun 19th 2011 6:10AM
I find it odd that people have issues with a blood elf druid - though it would be nice if somehow their reconnection with the earth actually took the fel-taint out of their eyes so they didn't have the give away green eyes. We've actually seen.. .at least one blood elf in Botanica, and I thought we saw another somewhere, that demonstrated druidic powers. Now, lots of people try to explain them as 'herbalists' and well, botanists. But last I checked, just playing with plants did not let you cast "tranquility". If it does, my herbalist wants to know why her self-heal got gimped and why she can't use it on other people. So I have no issues whatsoever with blood elves being druids. I mean, the night elves recently became able to be mages again, and that was a high elf quality. Of course, any blood elf being willing to turn into a boomkin MAY be ostracized from Silvermoon so maybe there's lots of blood elf druids and they're just hiding.
And as stated, the humans of Gilneas DID prove that they could be druids. It didn't require them getting cursed to learn druidic arts. That just happens to happen to all player Gilneans.
What'd I'd REALLY love to see is more things like the explanations for classes that we got with Troll druids, Tauren sunwalkers, and night elf mages. They had small lead up quests or in game conversations that let people observe WHY these groups suddenly had new classes. Of course, in the alliance case, humans really should have always had the hunter class, the wildhammer dwarves were always shamanistic. But still, I'd love to see new classes for races that get implemented be sort of outcasts if necessary. Not "Oh yes, draenei warlock, you meet in the dark corner over there in the Exodar." It should be like "Yes, Draenei warlock, you're NOT Approved of, enjoy having the lower rep to start out with, you have alot to prove with the other draenei. And you have to follow clues to find others like you." Would it make it harder? Yes. But it'd certainly set you in the right mindset for the character you're playing.

Q for the Q: Hyjal is one of the first cata zones, if i go there with a level 80 and make it to the quest that opens the firelands daylies, would I be able to play there without getting 85 first?
