I secretly believe that the "pact" that Sylvanas made with the Val'kyr has a whole lot to due with the Forsaken Plague. Gonna get a little tin-foil-hatty on you, but try this:
The Val'kyr need to raise the dead to undeath in order to sustain themselves. Perhaps some last vestiges of life remains in a corpse, and by resurrecting it, a Val'kyr is imbued with said essence, and it keeps them chugging along.
If this were true, then they would need a constant stream of dead to rez, no? In comes the Forsaken Plague, and Sylvanas, who just happens to have need of a way to reproduce.
Bing, Bam, Battlerez. :-)
