Blizzard previews new rated battlegrounds PVP mounts

The really interesting and cool part about these mounts are that they are awarded for 75, 150, and 300 rated battleground wins. That's right -- each time you reach one of those milestones, you are given another account-bound mount for use on one of your alts, with three mounts available total. That is an awesome change that potentially signals the beginning of more account-bound achievement items being earned and shared across players' accounts, as opposed to having to complete each achievement on each character. This is the first step in something bigger, I'm sure of it.
Rated battlegrounds have been a touchy subject with Blizzard, since depending on who you ask they are either wildly successful or not being used enough. Gathering 10 people for coordinated PVP is sometimes just as much of a pain as doing it for raiding, and the time commitment can be just as large. With these new mounts, Blizzard hopes to get more people into the rated battleground system and start fighting it out for some cool new mounts.
In order to best accommodate players under the unique play style of Rated Battlegrounds, we'll be offering all-new PvP ground mounts -- the Vicious War Wolf (Horde) or Vicious War Steed (Alliance) -- in a unique way. If you want to sit your knickers on these sweet new rides come patch 4.2, Rage of the Firelands, you must earn achievements for winning either 75, 150, or 300 Rated Battlegrounds. One account-bound mount will be awarded for each of these achievements earned, so if you win 300 Rated Battlegrounds with a character, you'll be afforded the opportunity to give that character and two of your alts each a wolf or steed. Since these mounts are tied to each achievement and not to your placement on the competitive ladder, they will be awarded instantly rather than at the end of each season as with Arena mounts. Your Rated Battleground wins tracked for these achievements are cumulative and are not reset with each season, so you can work toward the reward at your own pace.
For those of you storming the front lines, protecting vital tactical positions, and keeping your teammates alive in Rated Battlegrounds, we wish you the best of luck in obtaining awards that befit your show of valor!

Man, those mounts are so hot. I can't even decide which one I like better, they're both just awesome.

I'm glad that my guild finally has a RBG team again with some excellent PvPers. This should incentivize more people to join which I think is great.

Trisnic - email me. I have some questions about your guild, specifically your R-BG teams.
I'm 31, wife, baby, career, etc... so I have limited time each week... But I take PvP fairly seriously (it's all I do anymore), so what I am specifically looking for is a group that is skilled, organized, but not so elitist that they all rage-log when they lose 1 match. (Currently I'm in a guild of mostly glads/ex-glads who are all divas who scream too much.)
Email = imm110 yahoo
P.S. I'm Rogue, Warlock, RestoDruid. I also have Mage, DK, Warrior, Pally, but I'm not as practiced on those...

I was excited about rBG, until I found out about the scheduling issues. When I want to endure all the politics and drama and scheduling nightmares of trying to get 9 other people to show up at the same time for the same time, I'll raid.
So far, Blizzard's ego won't let them let go of that requirement.
Although making BGs that fewer people want to do is consistent with making raids fewer people want to do.
Trisnic Jun 20th 2011 4:07PM
This kind of complaint is legitimate because in my experience PvPers do not want to schedule their time. We have been trying to form a stable RBG team all throughout Cata. We tried to schedule it like our raids.. well that did not work out very well at all. Finally we found a leader who has gotten gladiator a few times and who is doing an exceptional job at recruiting talent. Finally we are starting to run these again, but it was an uphill struggle.
The reality is the VAST majority of PvPers do not want to schedule. I'm talking about 95% of those who like to PvP in their off time. I have seen this over and over from hundreds of PvPers, even those who state the really want to run RBGs. Generally even those who want to run RBGs want to come on when they feel like it and immediately want have a group to go. As a guild that only works with hundreds and hundreds of active members. Trade chat RBG teams don't seem to be completely successful either and on some PvE servers they are not even possible to find.

Agreed. Rated bgs was not the solution I thought it was going to be either, but really all I wanted was access to top notch PvP gear (and weps) for grinding bgs. I don't care if it's offensive to others for me to wear PvP epics, I just wanna run bgs and get properly rewarded for doing so without having to deal with the "raid-like" frustrations of trying to herd a large group into a functional team.

I am going to be thoroughly ticked off if all achievements become account-bound. I don't mind making the rewards account bound single-use, so you can transfer them to whomever you like. I don't mind an overall account achievement board, where you can see what achievements you've earned across your toons, with the name(s) of whomever completed those achievements.
But to make it so finishing an achievement on one toon finishes it on all toons will just piss me off to no extent. I play my various toons to get the achievements, individually, on each of them. There will be no point in many people playing alts if it becomes "done on one, done on all".

And, in all honesty, do you see it happening? I mean get real.
You typed up a long winded and bitchy response, when in reality, you probably know damn well that your unbased fear is never going to happen. Ever.

I feel exactly the opposite. Once I got into achievements, I stopped playing all of my alts. I used to love tanking and healing but since my rogue is my main, all I do now is DPS.
If I playing my Druid would add to my account achievements, I would definitely play him again.
I'm moving up on 13k achievement points and starting to run out of things I can work on solo.

Yet another reason I am glad I cancelled my sub. I love the wolf and the horse is pretty nice. However I hate pvp and I hate organized pvp even more. It would be torture to try and get the wins for these mounts. No sense in playing a game if it isn't fun.
Dave N. Jun 20th 2011 4:37PM
Also LOL @ Blizzard for putting characters with t12 on RBG mounts.

Don't you hate how Blizzard forces us to do things we don't want to do?
p.s. That screenshot is a clear indicator that WoW is dead. It's all a slap in the face.
DonNochay Jun 20th 2011 7:25PM
And the hilarious douche award goes to.....
Dave N. Jun 20th 2011 7:44PM
And rude and irritating comments like these make me glad I am no longer a part of the wow community. Way to be mature.
Newchron Jun 20th 2011 4:39PM
The Horde mounts need recognizable trophy heads like the Alliance. Generic skulls suck.
Matthew Jun 20th 2011 8:55PM
but all gnomes and dwarves and humans loook a like! just different sizes. and gnome skulls could look like babies. thats not ok in orphan week.
night elves, that would be cool. but i think their skull would look like a weird deer or something.
ScrubRogue Jun 20th 2011 4:58PM
I gave it a try to play rated battlegrounds but couldn't enter any of them on my server. Always the same reply, "sorry you have to have a 2500 MMR and full t2 gear, f*** off scrub" lol
ScrubRogue Jun 20th 2011 5:07PM
6 months of trying, zero wins zero losses.
Irish Jun 20th 2011 5:28PM
I am going to go out on a limb and say that Battlegrounds are use most often by the casual competitive player. The guy who does not have time to commit to a raid group or any group for that matter, therefore he simply logs on and ques for a Random Battleground, enjoys a rather short que plays for an hour or so and logs for the night...The accessibility and casually nature of Random Battlegrounds is what I enjoy most about wow, I can be competitive, play my toon, and even buy new shiny gear when im done.... Hello my name is Captain Causal, I have 2 kids a wife and 2 dogs, and I like to play Battlegrounds....

Same here.
