The Classifieds: Thriftee, never spend a penny
We're always on the look out for new and interesting play styles. It's a big World of Warcraft, and we love to see the new and exciting efforts folks make to to expand the community even a little further. We've seen game pacifists, but never a game cheapskate. Check out this letter we got about Thriftee:
I just wanted to tell you a bit about our dear guilde Thriftee (the player behind Thriftee is an elderly woman, 60+) who are one of those who loves to find minigames inside the game itself. She enjoys to find unsual challenges and has before this levelled a level 1 explorer Twink that you have featured before on Classified (Döra the explorer).
A while ago she set out on a new adventure. Levelling a toon to level 85 without spending one copper even on anything. That meant no training, no repairs, no flights, no mount, etc, etc. It took her a while but now shes done it.
Shes quite a cool woman, she frapses, does a wee bit of machanima and sets thise fun challenges for herself and blogs about it.
Her blog is at: http://doraslog.blogspot.com/
Random Acts of Uberness
It's when another player lights up your night with precise play, a wicked sense of humor or unexpected generosity that your login becomes something to remember. Share your Random Acts of Uberness with theclassifieds@wowinsider.com. Keep things brief (150 words or less, please), and be sure to list everyone's character names and home realms or battlegroup. Don't be afraid of sending an entry more than once if it doesn't appear; sometimes internet dragons eat email, and we'd hate to let that keep deserving players from getting their due.
Nombi I just finished a pug run through Scholomance with my Holy Priest, Owlmagus. The group was excellent but in particular, Nombi from Earthen Ring went above and beyond. We rolled on the Freezing Lich Robes and she won. A second later, up popped my trade window. Yep, she gave me the piece because her current robe was better than the one I had. With all the complaints we hear about pugs, I wanted to give kudos and my thanks to her. -- Owlmagus

We are an adult run guild and are looking for fun and interesting people to raid with. Your attitude is as important as your playing skills. We are looking for a couple Shadow Priests, a Moonkin, a Resto Shaman, and a Resto Druid but will entertain quality players of any class and spec. I'm quite tempted to try that No Money Spent challenge myself, since I like tricky stuff. I'd have to figure out the best class to do it on though ...
Vladpr Jun 22nd 2011 2:58PM
I guess you can spend talent points ... so that should help some.
deviantlore Jun 22nd 2011 2:23PM
Just amazin'... a hunter without control of a pet... that must have been VERY challenging indeed!!
Vladpr Jun 22nd 2011 3:00PM
That depends. If the hunter started after 4.0.3 or 4.0.6, they would start the game with a pet already at level 1.
If it was before that, then yeah no pet till 85.

My wife just started the "Get to 85 without a single death" challenge. She's leveling a warlock for this, but is NOT using soulstones. She doesn't think she's going to use healthstones either.
An additional point to her challenge? If she dies before 85, she deletes the character. (Boy wouldn't it suck to get eaten by the Fel Reaver in HFP or some other random, horrific accident at level 60+?)
deviantlore Jun 22nd 2011 2:27PM
Here's hoping she keeps an eye to her 6 then!!
Good Luck!

What about a random dismount while flying?
lordemperor Jun 22nd 2011 3:13PM
PvP server?
Boydboyd Jun 22nd 2011 3:14PM
PvE :)
Chetti Jun 22nd 2011 6:43PM
Good luck to her! That is an awesome feat to attempt.
Katherine Jun 22nd 2011 8:53PM
One of my guildies just started this one as well, seems strangely popular! He's using a priest though! If/when he makes it, he says he's going to try again on a PvP server!
Ametrine Jun 23rd 2011 12:32AM
I heard of someone doing that with a Warrior... though the cap was 80 at the time.
omai Jun 23rd 2011 9:28AM
I wish her the best of luck, I was lvl 3 warlock and got ganked in a mob of wolves in Elwynn! That didn't work out so well for me... But that was my original plan, was not to die! lolz

A couple weeks ago I am talking on the phone to my friend and suddenly he lets out a scream.I asked him what was wrong and it turns out the character he had leveled to 66 without dying was in some low level area when I called. He got up to answer the phone and grab some foodfrom the fridge. While he was talking to me he got back to his computer and discovered he had just earned the Stood In the Fire achievement because Deathwing just killed him.
I gave him a "Gratz" LOL
squishy Jun 22nd 2011 3:27PM
Yeah, I'm gunna be downmodded for this.
But I gotta say it.
She's selfish. Really selfish. For the notoriety of "never having spent a copper", she had to have a warlock with two friends to spend THEIR gold for mounts and flight training to go to where SHE wanted to quest.
That kind of logic is flawed, just like hunters who claim they "solo'ed" content when they had a pet out.
LynMars Jun 22nd 2011 3:47PM
Given pets are part of the Hunter class feature and their dps, yes it is soloing. They are not getting help from another player, they are doing content only with what is available to their class--which includes a pet.
If guildies offer to help someone out on their challenges, that's on them. No one can force anyone else to do things in game if they don't want to. A lot of times people will be willing to help someone on their personal challenges, if only to see if it -can- be done.
It sounds like her guildies and friends were generous and helpful people who liked their friend and wanted to help her succeed in this challenge. If you don't have friends like this, or aren't a friend like this yourself, it would probably be difficult to understand.
The Dewd Jun 22nd 2011 3:59PM
If you think you can do better, squishy, then do it. Show us all that you can get to 85 without spending any money and without anyone else's help.
Agony Jun 22nd 2011 3:55PM
Did you even give a SINGLE THOUGHT to the fact that her guild encouraged her and supported her...because they like her?
No?
Didn't think so. Instead, you were apparently thinking about total independence.
How selfish.
wow Jun 22nd 2011 3:59PM
I solo'd a Two Druids and a Hunter to the Level Cap. I am currently solo leveling a SPriest to L.85. :)

By that logic, is an unholy DK who uses Army of the Dead an entire 10-main raid group? No wonder everyone complains about DKs being overpowered!
