Breakfast Topic: Let's make up our own WoW holidays

We already quasi-have this to a small degree with World of Warcraft's heroes. Some quests during the Harvest Festival over on the Horde side of things, for instance, have us visit Grom Hellscream's monument and pay tribute to his sacrifice in removing the orcish blood curse. I think we could have two faction-specific holidays that show off the Warcraft history without being spiritual dopplegangers to real life events.
For the Alliance, a holiday could be created to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who charged through the Dark Portal and destroyed the other side, leaving them stranded on Draenor for what appeared to be forever. Nethergarde Keep could be the site of the holiday, as Alliance players go to pay their respects at the site of one of the bravest acts of heroism the Alliance exhibited in the war against the Legion-dominated Horde.
For the Horde, players could partake in some sort of release from bondage day, since at some point all of the races that currently make up the Horde were enslaved either physically; through addiction, like the blood elves; or through conflict, like the tauren. Rather than be a holiday wishing for the destruction of slavers, this time would be of appreciating the relative freedom that the races of the Horde now enjoy.
What do you think some in-game holiday, unique to the game world and lore, be? Would you like to see Blizzard make up actual in-game holidays instead of following by our own cultural moments?

I like the holidays but yes we need some authentic azeroth holidays.
The day Deathwing came should be one and on ally side death of Uther day - at his shrine perhaps as I always love that place.
Also the day from the cutscen Arthas held Frostmourne - could be a horde and ally holiday as this would start a really nice battle at the cave

I always wanted community based world events.
One comes to my mind.. "guild trade show" type of thing. Kinda like e3 or those expos.
You would pay lets say 1k gold for 1 hour advertising spot in this huuge area (kinda like darkmoon faire) where you could rent small area to advertise your guild.
You would have guild banners around the area and looking like souvenir shop (guild tabards on back wall etc). You would have goblin/dwarf sitting on chair and table is full of pile of papers and when you talk to him you would automatically open guild finder window to that guild or something cool like actually major text area. You could make him answer questions like "what kinda guild this is" and have him answer "This guild is (pve), (pvp), (rp), (social), (leveling) guild".
It would add so much to immersion rather than just "just use this guild finder lol" and have so little text of the guild in it.

This is literally the best idea/comment I've read in a LONG time :) Awesome Idea!

I think they need Horde week. A week dedicated to the Horde. There would be events such as dwarf tossing and gnome punting go without saying. For humans I was thinking a human eating contest. This would be for forsaken and trolls only since they are the only two horde races that eat other humanoid races. Worgen show, where you get to show off your pet worgen in a dog show type event with points for tricks, obedience, and hygiene. Sadley I can't think of anything for Night Elves and Space Goats.

The Darkspear don't practice cannibalism anymore. Well...at least not openly.

Followed, the next week, by Death To The Burning Legion And Its Instruments Week, where the Alliance strikes a decisive blow in the war to defend civilization from those who would destroy it utterly ... by torching every single Orc and Forsaken.
The Scourge and the Horde were created by the Legion as instruments of genocide, and instruments of genocide they REMAIN - regardless of any freedom they may have from their demonic masters, the destructive urge imprinted upon their souls cannot be expunged so easily.
Every action of the Orcish Horde and the Forsaken Scourge remind us of this - freedom is meaningless unless one chooses to act differently. Until the enemy forswears the methods of the Legion, as well as the governance of the Legion - THEY REMAIN LEGION.
Death to the Legion!

I dunno about on your server but on mine Horde week is every time the Darkmoon faire is in town at Elwynn forest. They just can't wait to get there and tear up the place. Poor Lion's pride inn is always getting sacked. (out before you bring up crossroads- anyone over 50 who raids that is a tool-IMO).

@ Noyou - I was on my main (human pally) one day, and I got a whisper from somebody asking if I wanted to come "raid" Crossroads. I said, "No thank you". The person asked, "Why not?" And I said, "Because I'm a grownup." ;p

Excellent topic!
I think there should be a holiday for when the great Rhonin descended from the heavens and time and space to unite the disenfranchised tribes of raptors and formed one unified tribe o--bwahaha i kid i kid

With the World constantly at war, I think it would be fun to have a day of "Peace" where there are activities and events in the opposite faction's cities. Giving us a chance to visit the other major cities without being chased by guards and other players.
Noyou Jun 25th 2011 11:11AM
That would be kind of cool but I don't see that happening any time soon.
Vitos Jun 25th 2011 12:20PM
Catering to casuals! Real players got Old Crafty/Ironjaw by soloing Org/Ironforge!
tturff Jun 26th 2011 11:07AM
Here, here Vitos. That was a pain but I got those darn fish, thank you very much.

I was going to say something about the day Mannoroth was slain and Grom died, but yeah, "Bondage Day" or some such would seem most appropriate.
loop_not_defined Jun 25th 2011 9:44AM
...the name should probably be changed, though. I mean, we're talking about Horde players.
Amaxe Jun 25th 2011 10:16AM
I don't know if it needs to be changed, given how many of the orcs seem to go about in black leather
