Veteran WoW players given free copies of the game to gift to new players

Nethaera commented on the veteran emails being sent out -- they are not scams and are being sent to players who selected to receive news and offers from Blizzard. If you haven't gotten an veteran rewards email, check your spam folder or contact Blizzard support. I postulated on a recent Lawbringer what the world would look like with free WoW, and this seems like a good first step to getting more WoW into more hands.
The veteran award email and offer are legitimate and are being sent out to veterans who have previously opted in to receiving news and special offers from Blizzard Entertainment. We may run more of these types of promotions in the future, so if this is something you are interested in, we suggest opting in as soon as possible so you don't miss out.
The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs -- plus new Tier 12 armor!

That's cool. I wonder how long you have to have played to be concidered "veteran". It goes nicely with the RaF going up to 80.
olzer Jun 25th 2011 3:12PM
Yeah, I wonder too - I'd really like one to get one of my friends started who's been hesitating about joining up, but I've only been playing since...errm....The first major content patch I remember was Sunwell...So I'm not really a "veteran" xP

I JUST set up recruit a friend YESTERDAY.
Arghhhh sorry my buddy, you could have saved $10! Now stop asking for a thousand gold to buy level 10 rings >.<

I got one so if you've been playing since Dec 04 I guess you're a "veteran".
But daaamn, I broke my own cc today, what does that make me.
Deadalon Jun 26th 2011 7:34PM
lal - Now we know how they are gonna PR the "we got our 600.000 accounts back".
Giving out accounts is pretty much a sign how desperate they really are.

Was this confirmed for EU already? I see nothing in my inbox or spam folder.
nymrohd Jun 25th 2011 3:13PM
I've been playing since 1.4 and no mail, but I don't think I let blizzard send me news and offers, have to check for that.

Anyone know how to get these, I've played since before Sunwell so I consider myself a wow Vet

The game went live on November 23, 2004; you're giving a vague start date of "I played before 2.4.0" so even if you started just prior to BC launch with 2.0.1 going live on December 5, 2006 you waited just over two years to start playing and have only been playing for four and a half years. How is that a vet? You've missed the entire original game.

I've been playing since 2004 and I did get an email. It's just a way to get another $15 a month from people but whatever. I have someone to give it to which is good.
Narshe Jun 25th 2011 7:53PM
I was excited to have gotten one of these in my inbox but now seeing that they only include vanilla and not even TBC Im disappointed. Your only saving $10, the original game should be free to begin with, and this promotion should have included at least 1 xpac. Telling a friend he saves $10 on a $100 game isnt saying much.
Kevlar Jun 25th 2011 3:23PM
Playing since 1.2. Received email Monday. Never opened it thinking it was another scam. Now to find a friend that DOESN'T play lol.

RetPallyJil Jun 25th 2011 3:30PM
January, 2005 here. I finally called Blizz up to ask if it was for real or not.
My brother has NO MORE EXCUSES! He WILL PLAY! (at least for a month)
Bapo Jun 25th 2011 3:31PM
I've been playing since a little bit before bc came out, and no email, going to check my account to see if its flagged for getting news from blizz.
Leshrac Jun 25th 2011 3:34PM
My account was created on November 24th, 2004. I better qualify! =)

It goes something like this. Our subscriber base is plumeting due to content everyone has seen and played for six years.
Let's get the l33t players still playing someone new to ridicule for having bad gear; the old casuals quit.

Keep tryin'. That almost - ALMOST - made some kind of grammatical sense.
