The Queue: You rang?

How terribly clumsy of me ...
Imnhd45b asked:
Will only one player per guild be able to obtain this staff at one time or can multiple casters go for the staff together???
There's no limit to the number of people in a guild who can be on the Dragonwrath quest or obtain the staff itself. Admittedly, it'd be pretty tough for all of them to get it at the same time, though!
Katters asked:
Why doesn't WoWInsider play nice with RSS readers? All the other blogs and sites I read allow me to read entire articles, and some comments too, right in the reader itself, whereas WoWInsider requires I click to another page to read the whole article. Am I missing something in setup? Is this intentional? Just curious.
Two reasons. First, some of our articles can get rather lengthy, so it'd be a pain to scroll past them if there were no cut. Second, RSS readers don't generate ad views, which are what keeps our site running.
Embobo asked:
Will a new type of currency be introduced that is equal to 100g?
Unlikely. First of all, in the game's database, all prices are in copper anyway. Gold and silver are just a visual convenience for players. Also, money takes up no actual inventory space, so there's no real need to consolidate it, especially since most players never have more than a thousand gold at a time.
Matt P asked:
If you had to hazard a guess, why does Blizzard still include estimated time of service on in-game tickets? I got one yesterday that said I'd be waiting one year, three days, and thirteen hours.
Well, the estimated time indicator was broken as of yesterday; most days, though, it's pretty accurate. Bear in mind that depending on the nature of your ticket, you might get a faster response than indicated even on a busy day. A "stuck" ticket will usually get addressed faster than a harassment ticket, for example. There are definitely hierarchies for priority.

"Most players never have more than a thousand gold at a time"
Wait, really?
Stephen Jun 26th 2011 2:09PM
I was thinking the same thing. Seems a little low to me?!
Imnick Jun 26th 2011 2:17PM
I raid regularly and never have much more than 3000g, never need any more than that really.
A system to consolidate that into 3p, 12g, 40s, 22c in my opinion would just be sort of useless
patgamer Jun 26th 2011 2:19PM
People tend to keep all the wealth they have on one character, bank alt or main.
But yeah I don't know anyone with less then 1k gold, that is just crazy nowadays :P
Gossamer Jun 26th 2011 2:20PM
I thought the same thing. I think this is the first time I've been under 10k in years, and it's only because I'm currently stockpiling a lot of things to sell after the patch. Even my boyfriend, who's never touched the AH other than very casually has at least 10.

Most players aren't regular raiders. They don't belong into guilds run like a city. They're not in-game small business owners, they don't play the auction house like Wall Street. They're just players. And 1000g is a heck of a lot to a heck of a lot of people.
Arkensis Jun 26th 2011 2:27PM
It's pretty accurate - the ones that are typically reading this blog (and especially The Queue), or reading anything WoW-related are probably hardcore, or at least not casual gamers. Most of us probably have at least 1 level 85 character, and maybe a few alts as well. The majority of the players in WoW though aren't of the hardcore nature, I'd imagine (nobody has the stats, but it's probably a safe assumption with over 10 million accounts), and so the vast majority of people probably spend a lot of gold on the AH, crafting mats, etc, and getting above that 1000g cap is probably pretty difficult.
Back when I first started in Classic, even having 1g to your name pre-60 was a chore if you didnt' have a high level alt and didn't play the AH. It's inflated a lot since, but the same ideas still hold true that it's harder to make gold without max-level characters and a decent knowledge of the game's economy.

Well for me i struggle with a couple hundred. I don't know why, but I'm always broke in this game =(

This is a real limitation with the WoWInsider podcast team, who I really like. I.e., if you have a good progression guild then a lot of repairs, flasks, enchants are taken care of you. More importantly, you never spend two or ten or twenty thousand gold on BoEs to get ready for raiding.
Not a criticism; just that in this area their experience is quite out of touch with the WoWInsider demographic. They are very insulated on the needs, uses and acquisition of gold.
There are fewer people gold-capped, million gold, than one would assume from reading gold blogs. But 1,000 was way low. With new PvP crafted, and HK & JP gear I think a lot of players will spend 1,000 gold on Tuesday for enchants and consumables.
Amaxe Jun 26th 2011 2:40PM
ya rly.
I am currently at about 400g in my guild bank and perhaps another 300 between all my toons. Of course I don't play the AH and had a lot of expenses getting my LW alt to 525. However, I don't think I've ever gotten more than about 4000g at one time -- and the only reason I got that high was to pay for fast flight for an alt.
SR Jun 26th 2011 2:53PM
Meh... I keep around 5k spread across my toons, but it's only that low because I have 6 85s that I have to manage, and I spend money in bursts. AKA epic flying, gear, chants, glyphs.... all that nonsense.
That being said, if I only had to stick to one of my toons, I'd be pretty loaded.

It really does show how far out some people are willing to take the game. I known a lot of people who when they had 1k gold and up they bought it.
Seeing comments like this makes me think why the gold selling business isn't gone.
People don't play the game for gold, and some tend to spend it on lvling professions, alts, and such that they don't have a lot of surplus.
Now I have known people to control the AH and never dare touch a gold seller, but when you have all that gold and selling items for 20k+ really need to take a look at what you are doing. I know on the twisting nether server, the market was so screwed up that literally it was the two riches people buying each others items to sell for more, and had a lot of consumers buy gold to pay for their over cost items.
I caught a person once selling a blue mace ilvl325 for 1.8k and was like "Why would you want to buy that when you can do CoC and get a better mace and money in the process."
It is fake currency and i feel better with the less of it I have.
Noyou Jun 26th 2011 3:52PM
Wow for real? You get about 4-5k from leveling 80-85. Just from questing and selling quest items. If you AH the occasional item. I made about 1000g or so just flying around doing the midsummer stuff and some occasional dailies. Of course I have lots of alts and all professions but I have spent lots of gold being lazy too to craft things. I spose if most people only know dungeon finder and chat in trade while waiting for queues then ya you won't have a lot of gold but if you quest and do some farming/crafting you can have plenty gold and not be hard core about it.
Strawder Jun 26th 2011 5:00PM
I'm with you broke people. If I have a thousand gold, I am doing something miraculous.
vendeurfrancais Jun 26th 2011 5:41PM
if you raid hardcore, sure you'll have over a thousand gold, but i frequently dip below that even on my main toon. I know that many people consider consumables and enchants and gems obligatory before you raid, but i've seen a lot of casual raids and casual raiding guilds where people aren't prepared, and don't have the money to spend on those. they usually don't get very far in raiding, and are the people running heroic ICC now, and still failing, but they apparently still have fun. my first time playing, back in BC, i got to level 20 before i had more than one gold piece. when I got to 60, which took months back then, i think i had around 200 gold, and no epic ground mount yet. I was a lock so I spent all my money on that mount quest and eventually got it, but not until I was at level 68. money is a lot easier to make nowadays, but if you don't play the AH while leveling, its conceivable that you have to buy all your trianing and mount skills, and probably don't have a lot of money left over for yourself.
terph Jun 26th 2011 5:58PM
Yeah, 1K sounds pretty low but it's not surprising. I see a lot of people saying stuff is so expensive or they don't have enough for repairs. But then again, making money is super easy. Even my baby alts had more than that while leveling. Just through casual AH-ing of the garbage mats and greens they'd pick up on the road. I play very casually right now but I usually range from 10-20k across the board. But I also sell almost everything on the AH, even just a few bits of vanilla-world ore I might pick up while flying somewhere. Admittedly, I am cheap. If I want something pricey, I always look for deals or provide my own mats.

My wife, when she was playing hardcore, loved 2 activities as much as she did raiding: fishing and working the AH. She had 5 level capped toons with capped fishing. And she thought nothing of logging in, checking the AH to see what fish were going for lots of gold, and then riding to the extreme reaches of Azeroth (this was before Cata, so no flying in the old country) to fish for, say, a couple hours. She'd come back with 15 or 20 stacks of the good stuff, and then start working on the auctions.
Her goal was to get to 100K gold across all toons, but she never made it. The closest she got was just over 88K. But to her, if she had less than 40K, she was starting to feel "cash poor". She just recently quit to take a long break, and when she parked her bank alt, she had just under 80K, total.
I never did all that, but I still have around 20K across all toons, and typically have 1500-2500g on hand for any active toon.
Metalupis Jun 26th 2011 6:21PM
Personally if I have less than 3k on my main I know its time to start doing some dailies and mat gathering/ah work again
Haimdall Jun 26th 2011 6:24PM
Huh, wow. It's just, I managed to rack up roughly 70k without making any real attempt to make money. I mean, I don't really buy BoEs ever, and my guild pays for repairs, but...
VioletArrows Jun 26th 2011 7:40PM
@Heimdall You know what you're doing though. Vendoring doesn't work at all vs inflation, but that's a lot of people's advice to newbies; just sell everything. Dailies gets you what, 3-400g a day, which is alright if you're not dying frequently, raiding (not everyone's is covered by guildbank), leveling a crafting profession, or working towards an expensive achievement/goal. Gathering professions are also suggested as first professions, which don't make a lot of money at all once you factor in bots and gold-farmers destroying that economy, despite being the backbone of all crafting professions. Then when jumping into crafting professions, there are some that sink far more money than they make, and others see the high cost and competition and it discourages them.
I'm certainly not dirt poor as to not even be able to afford 310 flying for whomever I'm playing, and I've raked in coin before, but honestly I've never had more than 70K across all characters to my name. :p
