Breakfast Topic: Patch 4.2 is upon us

Patch 4.2 brings with it many new features. Players will be able to enter the Firelands, Ragnaros' domain, for a whole slew of new daily quests and player-specific progression. Seven new raid bosses await intrepid raiders, valor point gear will be knocked down to justice level, and the previous tier of content is becoming more accessible to raiders new and old. Loads of new companion pets and mounts await players willing to aid the Avengers of Hyjal's cause. Lucky raiders will also take part in an epic quest to forge the newest legendary item in WoW, Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest.
I am especially interested and excited for the Molten Front and Regrowth daily hubs that are being introduced for max-level players in Hyjal, as the druids and sentinels break into Ragnaros' home turf, the Firelands, and lay siege for their survival. These dailies and daily hubs represent a philosophy that I love in MMOs -- your personal progression should matter just as much as the progression of the whole. You, individually, will be working with major lore characters and factions to put together the Hyjal offensive, and your decisions get to open up new quest areas and gear vendors in an order that you choose. Putting this type of control back in the players' hands feels like a Burning Crusade move, and I'm a man who loved him some Burning Crusade.
What are you looking forward to when we get to log into patch 4.2? What's your first move in the face of invasion from the Firelands?

Are you sure it's "upon us"?
My launcher still says that 1.4.0.14007 is "up to date".

Whoops... dyslexic this morning methinks...
Should read 4.1.0.14007

The maintenance post on the forums basically said HINT HINT YOU GUYS SHOULD READ THE PATCH NOTES WHILE WE'RE DOWN FOR AN EXTRA FEW HOURS HINT HINT so ... yes, we think so.
If it isn't today, we'll ... eh, not do anything about it, probably.

The login screen said 8 hour maintenance, though yes, my launcher also said I was up-to-date.
So either our background downloaders have been busy, or whatever signal they send out to say "Install the new patch" hasn't been done yet.
I'm looking forward to taking my group into all the Tier 11 content and mopping it up tonight so that we can start Firelands tomorrow. We figured that the Firelands raid servers would be buggy, and we'd just avoid the rush a bit, assuming the servers are even stable enough for raiding at all.

I am going to go out on a limb and say there will be a mini patch or 2 in between and wild guess it late September to mid October. Hey wait, there is a holiday in September right? I'll say smack in the middle of brewfest.
Noah Jun 28th 2011 8:04AM
Change all my characters around. Yes. That is what I'm most excited about this patch.
Zone-sized raid zone?
Nah.
Tons of new content, dailies and lore?
Nah.
The ability to move characters around the selection screen?
Awww yeahhh.
Scomparsa Jun 28th 2011 9:27AM
Awwwwww yyyyyeeeeaaahhhhhhh
What? That's the major feature I'm excited for since my guild's raiding drive died...
Aticus Jun 28th 2011 10:01AM
Ahhhhh! Total win!
My main won't be 5 spaces down my character list anymore! :D
Noyou Jun 28th 2011 12:02PM
I'm not going to lie this is a 7 or 8 on the Squee-O-meter. It will be nice to order them for dailies or when a holiday rolls around which toons get to "eat first" so to speak.
Cowboy Jun 28th 2011 8:06AM
I am looking forward to doing dailys as heals. Not
MattKrotzer Jun 28th 2011 8:36AM
Try out a dual-spec. They're pretty snazzy.
Jari Jun 28th 2011 8:46AM
Why not dual spec into a DPS spec?
srodrigueziii Jun 28th 2011 10:48AM
I've heard about the new phasing areas for 4.2.
I'm hoping this is just the whiny single-spec healer phase.
